Condoleezza Rice said it was her dream job. She'd do it for 1/10th of that.

What exactly does goodell do that makes him so special?

Hire her and get the good pr for hiring a woman. Much better pr than that stupid breast cancer nonsense.

It is simply amazing how the super wealthy/elite can become so absurdly insulated within an echo chamber. It ultimately results in us workaday people seeing the obvious that the bubble cannot.
Goodell is not liked, Goodell tarnished the brand, Goodell was responsible for multiple fires that were incredibly avoidable, Goodell has been at the helm of a near 2 year viewership slide in the range of 11 to 15 percent.
The owners actually think they must have this guy at a price that will make him the highest paid sports figure? That is a knee slapper.
IMHO the owner echo chamber bubble says "he's one of us, don't rock the boat, he's doing good overall, the unknown is frightening, and don't forget don't rock the boat'.

What they are missing is they need a new face for the business side of the brand. One that plays good on TV. Someone with a twinkle in their eye and can say all the right current buzzwords without it looking/sounding pathetic. And that won't cost a quarter of a billion dollars over 5 years (consider: Goodell makes so much money he could probably buy and sell Tom Brady, sad but true).

I'd be more than happy if he was simply reassigned to the Adac Alaska Football Media office.

If you think about it, look at how different things would be if Tagliabue were commissioner.

If there were rumors the Patriots were deflating footballs, he'd have called them and told them to cut it out.

If players were kneeling for the national anthem, he'd have called Gene Upshaw and got it to stop.

    Same with bountygate.

He wouldn't have got caught lying about charges. He'd have an independent arbitrator.

None of these issues would have been issues.

He has damaged the reputation of the league. Fans boo him mercilessly -- also not a good look for the league.

He is not just a bad guy, he's a bad commissioner.

What he did for them was bully the players to take a smaller cut of the pie. That raised the value of their franchises. But does that mean they have to keep this guy forever?

If the owners extend Goodell, they'll deserve whatever happens to them.

MagicM's post got me thinking about Biffin's question.

What if GotoHell knows how the nyjfl has lied in past nflpa cba negotiations and it is worth the $45M overpayment in salary to keep him quiet?
But I'm sure they could equally give him a buyout with a secrecy clause just as well. But that is the only leverage other than providing them a McMahon-WWE type buffoon to distract the player, public and legislators from real issues and give the mediots fodder to keep them in the headlines. And if ommisioner is just doing that, hell hire mcmahon.

Oh well, stray thoughts on problems we can never solve.

Speaking of insular, consider that Goodell's only job, except for a stint as an intern for the NJ Jets, has been working for the NFL. Roger's been breathing the Park Avenue exhaust since 1984.

in 2017 if they were to hire a woman, and then pay her 1/10 of what a man was paid to do it, the entire planet would explode.

Remember when a bunch of Pats fans convinced themselves that Kraft really was mad at Goodell and was just taking the long game to get rid of him?

    LMAO

Now he's leading the fight to re-sign the duplicitous *******!

Instead of hiring her at 1/10th of Stokoe's salary, they could hire me at 1/100th of his salary, and nobody could say boo.

I do the job for free...just so I could take all Goody's possessions and throw them into the street on Park Avenue followed by a swift kick from my size 13 right in his stupid azz.

I really don't understand why Goodell gets paid $40-50m/year salary.

I mean Boeing has $90B in revenue and the CEO gets $9m/year.
Johnson and Johnson has $75m in revenue an the CEO gets 6.5m/year
Exxon Mobil has 215B in revenue and CEO gets 2.65m/years

So even not considering his sheer incompetence why does the NFL commissioner get paid so much more?

Is there any CEO for any company that gets paid as much as Goodell?

As several members have already stated a superior candidate can be hired for a fraction of the price.
