Goodell contract demands ($50m salary, private jet, health insurance for life)

Honestly I hope this gets done. I think Rog has already damaged the NFL brand and relationships enough that there's some tough years on the horizon. He's already made eff you money, so might as well let him reap what he sowed.

Where does the phrase "F-u money" come from? Is it that movie The Gambler, because I think that's the first time I heard it.

Offer him 5 million. Where else is he going to go and get that kind of money? Ratings and attendance are both down. He has absolutely no leverage.

I read an article a while ago about the process of naming Tagliabue's successor. The owner's championing Goodell tried to sway support to their side by arguing that, if he wasn't named commissioner, Goodell would leave. Since he ended up getting the job, I guess that argument helped, but why didn't any owner stop to wonder where Goodell would go to get a job with similar prestige and compensation? It was an empty threat then, just like it is now. Goodell isn't a Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg where, if they left, you would wonder how their former company would perform. Goodell leaving doesn't affect the teams on the field, which is what the NFL's audience cares about.

I would offer him a paper hat and a duster.

In Europe the richest league is Premier League. The Executive Chairman is Richard Scudamore. He makes £2.5m with bonuses, or about $3.5m per year. He has no private jet, but he does get free health care for life as does everyone else in UK (and most European countries). I don't mean to offend any Americans but I found the demands of "health care package" alongside a $50m salary hilarious, implying it was a significant perk on top of the $50m salary!!!

no offense, but considering the tax rates in other countries, health care is certainly not free.

it is silly that such a mediocre guy can command that kind of money

but.....if he can get it, then good for him.......free market and all that

league is arrogant.....and likes to use him to deflect attention and blame

what really bothers me is what this says about the state of our healthcare system

Reader beware, Chris Mortensen reported the part about private jet for life and other stuff. I am not saying 11 of the 12 claims in the article are wrong, I am saying take it with a grain of salt. A source may not be telling Chris the whole story.
Don't worry - he won't retract it for about 18 months...

I offer him a punch in the mouth...and a little later on I'd come back and offer him seconds....:D
Where’s the deductible amount? What’s his co-pay? Wait, this isn’t an actual health plan?@USHealthJoker

It's all part of the Joe Kerr Umbrella of Lifecare...the Church of Good Looks, the School of Good Looks and the Good Looks Clinic.." it's just a flesh wound...you look GOOD...please leave the $500 deductible and your social security number with nurse Bilkington and have these prescriptions filled at Joe Kerr's Pharmacopia Cornucopia & Placebo Circus..."

Kraft is one of the six voting members on the compensation committee. I'd like to think he would take this opportunity strike, but I don't think he will.

The other owners include the Chiefs, Texans, Giants, Falcons and Steelers, and I don't see anyone else in that group willing to do anything. So this could get quite messy if Jerry does end up suing them.

Never ever ever underestimate an old rich crazy guy and how far he will go to get revenge.
Kraft is striking against Jerry Jones for not making life easy for his friend Roger.

If Roger is extended, I might be done with the NFL. I'll stream Pats games until Brady / BB retire and that could be it for me

Does that 3.5 million include all the bribe money or is that separate? Soccer is the most corrupt sport in the world. It makes the NBA look legit.

Goodell needs lifetime health care becausecwhen he leaves the job he has pre-existing conditions of being a lying, dishonest douchebag.

Jerry is obviously ****ing crazy, and a loud-mouthed idiot, but I have to be honest, there is a part of me that wishes Kraft had done similar when we got screwed. I appreciate so many things about Kraft, and nobody is perfect, but his mishandling of these types of things is hard to overlook.

Jerry is a hypocrite and his own words are going to come back to bite him. He's a moron. But at least he's going to the mat for his guy. We certainly can't say Kraft did similar.

Yea there is no cure for that. It's terminal

As everyone knows, salary/bonus negotiations are all about leverage.

I just don't understand what leverage Goodell has? If the owners off him e.g. $15m per year or $20m per year, are they scared he'll say no? Does Goodell have tons of other opportunities where he gets paid $20m/$30m/$40m etc and he has to be offered $50m here to keep him.

I just don't understand why the owners would be acting like this and entertaining Goodell's demands. What leverage does Goodell have?
