Bold prediction.. if Hollister is the real deal as a move TE in terms of route running, I am not sure we will have a space for the 2018 version of Decker on the roster. I get that one is a TE and the other a WR but they have similar size and at this point of his career Decker has lost some of his athleticism.

I hope Hollister becomes a non-murdery Aaron Hernandez.

I think you can throw Allen into your equation as well.

Not sure about that
Maybe not, Butler was a bit overrated last year not his best work. Jones always seems to play well, although in short minutes. Would like to see him get a chance to play a lot.

Btw- All you guys that keep these training camp threads updated with all the notes & news.. @AtomicDawg @long distance ... whoever else.. you’re absolutely awesome.

Wasn’t his best year but he did play well against the titans and the second half of the jags game.

That's an interesting question. What value (I.e. Salary cap cost) do the Patriots place in having one of the best run and pass blocking TEs in the league if he has limited impact as a receiver? We know Belichick loves these types of guys - had Daniel Graham, Kyle Brady, Alge Crumpler, drafted Lee Smith. I think the Pats try to keep him if he restructures his deal to about the 3m range. At 5 million? He might be willing to roll the dice with Izzo.

He does other things well but he brings nothing offensively. If he has over 200 yards receiving on the season i will be surprised.
Well in all fairness, that'll be primarily because Hollister will be capitalizing on his supposed intended receiving yards.

If Hollister can manage to block a bit better than Ahern (a fairly low bar) and be good for ~3 catches and 25-30 yds per game, he's definitely in. Still need a Crumpler analog, though, for the sake of the ground game.

At that point, it comes down to Allen versus Izzo.

2017 CB snap counts, regular season:

Butler - 1037
Gilmore - 816
J. Jones - 439 (+289 ST snaps)
Rowe - 259
Bademosi - 214

Etling moving in wrong direction ..

2 of 4 is better than 12 of 22.

Hoyer sucked ass last game and if that's the case over the next few weeks I'd rather have Etling than Hoyer as the # 2.

Of course Butler is better than Jones. What the question is ....was be better than Badman..?

Emphatic yes..
