There was a completed pass to Hogan in the 3rd quarter along the left sideline for a 1st down in which he was knocked OOB real hard. Does anyone remember that play? I will try and look it up later if possible.

The reason I bring it up is because someone on the Pats appeared to come out of the backfield on a swing pass to the right and looked completely alone, with all of the defenders heading to the offense's left.

I was wondering if there's any film of that play that might confirm that.

I was thinking the same thing as your son when Hogan got up a little slowly. When I watch the game again I'm going to note exactly when it happened. Maybe that will help me find another view.

Yep. Like I said, that's one instance where being as diligent in the film room as he is backfires .01% of the time. Kudos to Sutton and the Mike on that play. They fooled the GOAT and it likely cost the team 7 points.

Didn't see this posted yet. It's not super in depth, but I really like the look at the three 3rd and 10 plays in OT. The Chiefs defense had the same problem ours did last year -- communication problems leading to losing leverage and opening up throwing lanes.

I'm curious as to what dictated the late switch from Michel to Burkhead. After Rex was stopped on the 4th and 1 I was against him playing again but then he redeemed himself at the end of the game. Did the Pats feel they were too run predictable when Michel was in the game or did his pass blocking seem suspect?

I think the most logical reason he wasn't in there was the fact he already had run the ball over 25 times and the last couple he looked a bit spent, I thought.

A second reason was with Rex you had both the run and pass options open. Thus far Sony is "merely" a run threat. (though he was a great receiver in college)

Just watched the 1st half.

The Patriots played 2 down lineman on the 1st and 2nd down.(If you don't count Simon as a down lineman, I don't because Simon stands up.)

The Patriots played 2-3-6 or 2-4-5. I can't tell if the Patriots were daring the Chiefs to run or if their o-line is god awful. Probably a little bit of both I'm guessing. What a pathetic performance by their o-line.

3rd and 1 for the Chiefs, Chiefs in 12 personnel(1 back, 2 TE, 2 WR) and the Patriots are in 2-3-6

It doesn't get much more awful than that. Kelce's blocking was pathetic. He lets Van Noy get inside of him but that wasn't the main reason the Pats got the stop.

They played a few 3 down lineman on some 3rd down's with Clayborn-Butler-Flowers.

On the Pats 3rd drive, the 3rd and 1 that got stuffed. If Allen was able to kick out Breeland Speaks so he's not involved on the play it has touchdown potential. Credit Speaks for making the play.

On the 3rd and 2 that eventually lead to the woman beater catch, Gilmore is shadowing Watkins in motion. Gilmore does kinda look at JC Jackson but I can't tell if they communicated or not. One of them made the mistake against the bunch formation and that's the only reason Watkins is open. Mahomes had nowhere to go and would have had to thrown it away. Pats would have been off the field. Crossen was taking snaps over JJ for most of this ensuing drive. Not sure why, but JJ eventually came back on the field for that drive.

The Damien Williams wheel route(with the legal pick) that Mahomes missed. Should have been offensive holding, Chung got right past the o-lineman and was clearly held. Glad the Chiefs got zero points. But it should have never come to all that.

1st half was awesome and it sucked. Missed opportunities and I felt like we should have been up 21-0 at the half.

I wonder if Andy Reid doesn't have confidence in his o-line if he didn't want to run it against the 2 down lineman. Unbelievable. I would have tried to run it down the Pats throat the entire 1st half.

Defense stayed with the 2 down lineman configuration for most of the 2nd half as well. The few exceptions were when the Chiefs were backed up and the Patriots D were in base defense and 4 down lineman for the goal line plays.

After watching the entire game and seeing how the refs were allowing the receivers to push off then in that case they shouldn't have called that DPI on JC Jackson down the sideline. I mean have some consistency, stupid refs!

The Chiefs drive that got them to 17-14 had some stupid defensive calls(or bad execution) and some good calls by the Chiefs O.

Trey Flowers wasn't offside by the time the ball was snapped, his head eventually is offside after the ball is snapped. I don't see you complaining about giving Trey Flowers a warning, Andy. And Trey Flowers wasn't even offside!

Clayborn sucks. The guy is pretty much useless except with rushing the passer and even then he leaves a lot left to be desired. I hope we can pick someone else up for the pass rush specialist next season.

Disappointing 2nd half, missed opportunities for the O, and Chiefs O made some good calls to beat the defense combined with one or two stupid defensive calls. I feel like McVay can exploit these as well. But I also feel like we won't be doubling Cooks the way the woman beater was doubled.

The OPI on Dorsett feels like a bad call. Dorsett tries to cut slightly to the left and the DB reacts by moving to the left to match him. So I feel like you shouldn't be calling OPI if the DB moved to block Dorsett but I don't know the exact wording of the rules.

I hope we can play better than we did in this game. Felt like we should have won easily.

The OT calls showed what a great sequence of plays Josh called and great execution by Brady.

Monday morning QBs moaned about KC sticking in Cover-2 in OT, allowing Edelman to kill them in the middle on the first two 3rd-down OT conversions. That completely ignores how the Pats’ earlier success throwing outside and deep (Dorsett’s TD, Gronk’s late 4th quarter sideline catch) likely played a role in KC calling the Cover-2 defenses. It also ignores how the Pats used White and Gronk on those plays as chippers before running simple safety valves. By doing so, White and Gronk effectively pinned their cover guys close to the LOS, opening up the middle of the field even further for Edelman. Giant kudos to Josh on great play design to spring Edelman open on those plays and for understanding how KC would not be so quick to abandon Cover-2 after what happened earlier in the game.

After the 2nd 3rd-down conversion, the MMQBs got their wish: KC caught on and abandoned Cover-2 in favor of Cover-1 Robber to stop Edelman, but the Pats were a step ahead and schooled them. On the 2nd down play to Patterson, KC revealed their Cover-1 Robber coverage as they were sick of getting torched by Edelman. Unfortunately, CP couldn’t pull in the pass, but the Pats knew KC would go back to that coverage on 3rd down and dialed up a beauty. At the snap, the safety playing Robber jumped forward to trap Edelman, allowing enough space for Brady to zip the ball to Gronk on a skinny post almost to the spot the safety vacated. At this point, KC had to have known they were beaten as nothing they did fooled anyone.

KC simply had no answers to what the Pats were doing in OT, getting outsmarted at every turn.
