McDaniels Very Interested in the Browns

There were lots of rumors that it was a longer term contract with a salary that was in the range of a newly hired, first time head coach. As a matter of fact, I believe that Brady himself commented that we’d have him here for “quite sometime,” or wording that was similar.

Thought I read somewhere (just recently) it was 5 years at $4M a year. If so, Sounds like HC money, or do. the hue jacksons of the world get more?

I’m pretty sure that 4m would put him in the middle of the pack. I saw an article that had guys like Mike Zimmer and Ron Rivera making similar amounts, but it looked like it may have been a couple of years old.

I agree with some of you that the Browns job is the best available for now and looking good in the horizon, however, I just don’t think they will become a powerhouse, I have this feeling that the Browns are gonna brown, it’s Cleveland. Josh should keep that in mind.
I can’t say that I’d be shocked if you were right. I don’t think anyone should be expecting a powerhouse. I’m expecting something around 9-7 or so, maybe 10-6. Something “Ravenish.” That would allow them to compete for a postseason berth in most years.

I could see Mayfield making some dumb decisions and them hovering around .500 for the immediate future, just as well.

Mayfield's immaturity is fixable. Talent and age are not fixable.

Browns has 85+M of cap space without all the cuts and restructures; very good positional players everywhere; very young and good players on D.
They are the team should go head-to-head with the Chiefs.

I’m not sure that I would be comfortable comparing the future of the Browns to the future of MVP Mahomes and the KC Chiefs, just because they went 5-3 once Hue Jackson was gone.

Let’s see them have a 10-6 season and make the playoffs, first. That would be impressive. Basically, your argument could be made in most of the recent Browns teams with many high draft picks, lots of cap space, and decent positional talent. The wildcard of course, is Baker Mayfield.

The evidence being that you're an old bastard but one of the most immature people thrythe this board?

You make a compelling case, sir.
He doesn't even have a interview scheduled with him.
Haam maybe Intersted sure but I don't think Dorsey would hire him based on his boy Ballard in Indy.

McD is probably the best candidate to help Mayfield develop well.

Overall, the Browns roster seems pretty solid, with most of their top players under contract through 2020 or 2021. It's a little top-heavy, cap-wise, but as long as Dorsey doesn't go Full Tannenbaum with contracts, and listens to McD and Williams about which prospects and free agents would work best, they could be in very good shape for awhile.

With the Steelers descending into Jete-like dysfunction and Roethlisberger getting old, and the Bengals seemingly fated to consistent mediocrity, the AFC North Championship feels like it could become a perennial battle between the Browns and the Ravens for the next few seasons. If the Ravens can't maintain their defense, and/or Jackson doesn't develop much beyond where he is right now, the Browns might even dominate the division.

No tear in my eye if he dips. A great deal of the offense's woes this year can be blamed on coaching. Don't want to go all NEM, but here are a few examples:
-Completely ignoring the use of Dorsette to take the top off the D.
-James White in short yardage/goal line
-Wide open Hogan being ignored.
-Empty backfield goal line formation that screams "Blitz Me".
-Going for the big splash deep ball when the running game is gaining 5 yard chunks, which puts you at pass, 3rd and long, Brady getting wrecked.
-Not using Michael in the passing game.
-Gordon, Gronkowski...Gordon, Gronkowski...
-How about actually throw a pass to Patterson?
-Run on 1st, pass on 2nd, third and long, Brady gets wrecked, rinse, repeat.
-How many drives has coaching killed this season?

Sorry, duplicate post.

i agree too with the fact that CLE looks quite good now

looks the rising franchise in their division for sure and already this year they could have probably compete for play offs allready...they were quite near that level...

imho Mayfield looks really a very very good qb, promising for their future

but overall roster looks ok...

so...i agree...Mc Daniels should 'listen'...

i still hope that he remain in Foxboro of course

What happened regarding the conversation with BB and Kraft that made him pull out of the Indy Job at the end of last season?

Seems like a lot of uncertainty on his part. Maybe he had falling out with BB, Kraft or Brady.

As fans, we can't control what he does!

Honestly, who cares? Going through this year after year while we enter the playoffs is a distraction.

Let’s go out and win one for Josh

I was baptized and indoctrinated as Cleveland Browns fan prior to the AFL/AFC... so there is a special place in my inner self for that franchise..

As a team they have a lot of pieces in place and developing players, coupled with him being about an hour from his home town makes it look very attractive...

High hopes for Cleveland, but do not want them to be "Patriots Good".. wonder if the Cleveland press will be more patient with Josh than the Detroit press have with Matt Patricia...

Anyone know where his brother is coaching these days? He was heading up a successful HS team somewhere near Youngstown, but I thought that I remembered some type of promotion to college or even the pros. He could be an addition to the Browns staff as some type of assistant, should his brother take the HC gig.

Google is a pretty good friend, what is sometimes overlooked was that McDaniels Dad was a coaching legend in Ohio.. interesting lineage, remind us of anyone else we know???
