I hear your words, but NO... if the ownership in Cleveland is even nearly as disfunctional as it seems from the outside, it would make sense to be cautious.

As much as Ohio sucks he would be smart to take the job if they offer. A talented young QB who people gravitate to, who barring injury should be around for quite a few years. Overall the team has a good young core on offense and defense. Njoku is a solid pss catching TE and Calloway, if he keeps his head on straight, could end up a Pro Bowl receiver as well as Landry in the slot. Chubb looks like he could be a bell cow for a few years and throw in Duke Johnson as a receiving back that’s a great core around Mayfield. The defense has some good young pieces as well with Denzel Ward and Myles Garrett making the Pro Bowl at the two most important positions on that side of the ball. Peppers, Kirksey, and Oghbah are solid role players as well. If Josh can come in and mesh well with Baker and hire the right staff the Browns should be in prime position to win that division almost immediately.

I wouldn't be concerned about Cleveland ownership if I was JMD. Is he looking for a Marvin Lewis/Jason Garrett type tenure?

If JMD is offered enough $$$ and control, bet on yourself. In this league you realistically only get a few years to produce anyway. If Josh can secure a big dollar deal, why not? He is in a no lose Gruden type negotiating position. This is a good defense with a potentially top QB, and plenty of cap. They are better than Green Bay.

He can always come back to being an offensive coordinator somewhere attractive, if he fails.

One thing against GB if Josh wants HC/GM duties is that, if the right QB falls to them in the draft in some not to distant future, they have to take it, Rodgers is 35, lets say two years from now they have another bad season, or a 8/8 season (The Bears looks solid and Vikings are not in rebuilding mode), when your starter QB is at this age you draft not a backup but a possible replacement, even with QB's aging well these days. The problem in this scenario is prima donna Rodgers complaining and you suddenly start to have problems with your franchise QB, and when things start to go south with Rodgers it goes in a downward spiral, be players or coaches, or family lol

In Cleveland they won't have to worry about QB for a long time, just draft backups from the 4th round on.

Belichick didn't follow Parcells as HC of the NYJs, and I really am beginning to think McD is going to follow that game plan. Now, there were different circumstances involved, mainly Parcells ego and his desire to embarrass Kraft. But still, you have to wonder do you really want to follow BB here? Anything less than deep playoff runs are not going to be acceptable.

Two jobs I am not sure I'd want: Following GOAT TB12 and following GOAT Belichick.

He sees Jonathan Kraft and Jonathan has shown every indication that he will be a very successful owner he has the best mentor in his father and the invaluable experience from being with BB.

I agree. I especially think he won’t get it in Cleveland with Dorsey there. He has done a pretty good job so far and with Josh having the blemish of drafting the worst first round QB prospect ever on his resume I think teams will be wary.

A lot of sunshine here for the Browns. The past like 9 coaches have all failed, despite getting a lot of early picks and having the same cap as every other team. I would think there was something more systemic than the coaches and players with this team at this point.

One of their best seasons in the past two decades was 2018, and most of that happened after they had a stand-in coach. Maybe the Browns should just hire nobody.

Aside from that he also dumped Cutler who at that point still looked like a promising young QB (who ended up lightyears better than Tebow). He did draft Decker and Thomas but overall he just came into Denver and overhauled the roster for the sake of overhauling the roster. Maybe it’s because he just got his license and his parents handed him the keys to the car but I think his personnel decisions ended up doing him in. He’s older and more experienced now so I would assume he would be in a better position his second time around but I still don’t see many teams giving him full control.

Haslam by all accounts is an idiot but other than him it should be a whole new organization once a new coaching staff is hired. Dorsey has been good early on and the team is young and promising while the Steelers and Bengals seem to be crumbling. I think this may finally be when the Browns turn the corner as hard as it is to believe.
