If what Mary Cabot says is true, would you still deal Jimmy G.?

  • Yes. I would take whatever I can get, especially if it includes the #12 overall pick

  • Perhaps, but their offer has to include a couple more picks, including a 2nd rounder. Or NO DEAL

  • No. Jimmy G will still be in New England if the compensation does not include multiple 1's

Always thought the value of Jimmy G has been overestimated, if he does go to Cleveland maybe can see their #12 and #52... FYI Cleveland also has three 2nd rounders in 2018, so there are a lot of possibilities.

Cleveland has been dumb franchise, but they are not that dumb after the shenanigans of Manziel etc. Garapolo is a great choice as after their draft pix investment, they have a year to figure out what they have and can pay him accordingly.

If Cleveland gives up an unconditional first rounder in a Garoppolo trade, then they got fleeced.

Then no deal is going to happen. The Browns would be smarter to start Osweiler and really suck again, ensuring those multiple 1st's and 2nd's are high picks. This gives their young players time to develop and then they have the ammunition to get a franchise (projected) QB in the 2018 Draft. Osweiler comes off the books in 2018 and the Browns will have the money and picks to go after their QB then. The Patriots are all set as it is, especially if they sign Hightower, so they can keep Garrapolo another season.

This is great strategy because based on the absolute certainty that the 2018 draft with have a historic "franchise" QB........Haslam, Sashi, and Hue can sell another miserable season to the fanbase..........based on the unicorn just around the corner.

Actually, a lot of the current chatter here in NE Ohio is about Kirk Cousins and the dysfunction in DC.

Many think that the hatred between Snyder and Shanahan make a deal to SF a no go based on spite.

Since Shanahan left Cleveland under less than ideal circumstances........many speculate a Cousins to Cleveland deal is possible.

Both Hue and Jay Gruden were Cincy OC's so he fits well both places.

Based on that level of intelligence.........no team should ever draft a QB in the 1st round.

Frankly, no player should ever be drafted ever and everyone should just join a team as an UDFA.

There are plenty of arguments to be made why a 1st round drafted QB this year is preferable to trading a first rounder for JG.

Yeah

...and they are just as dumb as the point you made.

such as............

There really is no one else left still interested in Jimmy, is there?

They might as well wait until he hits the market next year IMO. Not like they're ready to win yet anyway.

Nah, that's ok. I know what your response will likely be so I'll pass on the effort. Do some homework, be objective, put down the rah rah Jimmy pom poms, look at it from a trading team's perspective and you'll figure it out.

stick around.....your stupidity will be rewarded

Translation: "I'm getting absolutely mauled in this argument, please stop."

Fair enough, I'll stop but silly fanboy stuff always warrants a reality check.

What is an unconditional first rounder?? It is not as though after the draft they can get it back....

IMO most of the compensation for Jimmy G is hyper inflated and great fodder for message boards, have contended up to now thought his value were two second round picks..

At least we know the Browns will always be the Browns (now a synonym for a failed, losing franchise, or is that the Jets)

"Unconditional" - As compared to a conditional first rounder where it is a first round pick in 2018 only if JG meets certain thresholds, otherwise it slides to a 2nd rounder. Like what the Pats got from the Bills for Drew, IIRC. That was a conditional first.

This I can see the Browns doing, much less risk to them and a reasonable balance.

JG is simply more valuable to the Patriots as a secure backup than a handful of second round or later picks. If teams think his value is less than that they quite possibly are correct but they won't be trading for him either. Bill will stick to his guns and either get a bounty or JG will be here. I'm 90% sure he's going to be here at this stage. I'm only 10% because it's the Browns and their owner might override common sense and pay the ransom.

"and I doubt they'll be willing to surrender what it takes"

So just another opinion from someone not even quoting an inside source.

I'm not saying she's wrong, but then again, this GM has a LOT of draftpicks to play with.

MKC has been just about the one person in/around Cleveland beating the drum for a Garoppolo trade, so I do think it's meaningful that even she's acknowledging that it's probably not going to happen.

If Jimmy walks in Free Agency, the Pats will still receive a 3rd round compensatory pick

If next March rolls around and the Pats aren't intent on keeping Garoppolo, at that point I bet they'd franchise and trade him rather than taking the comp pick.

Maybe Draft Day Bill will come to his senses and take #12 and a third and a second next year. Which I think is fair compensation for Jimmy.

There was no way in hell they were going to give up #1. And 2 first rounders lol. Honestly if anyone ever even suggested the Pats pay something like this for a player everyone here would laugh. Not sure why the Browns would do it no matter how desperate they are.

What did the Redsklins pay for RGIII and what did the Rams pay for Goff? Get realistic !!!!
