The problem is there's too much misinformation. Take calories for example. There are more calories in a handful of almonds than in a can of Coke. However, if you munch on almonds all day, you'll feel fine and lose weight; if you drink Coke all day, you'll feel miserable and gain weight. Why is that?

Look at the nutrition labels. Notice the sugar to fiber ratio in almonds vs. the sugar to fiber ratio in Coke (no fiber at all). This has been the problem in the American diet for years and why we're having an epidemic of type 2 diabetes.

A little OT but I'm not sure that weight problems are necessarily a "willpower" issue. I suspect our nation's obesity problem has more to do with bad food and bad information about what constitutes a proper diet.

I think there are multiple reasons why people become obese. Psychological issues, lack of exercise, bad diet, physical (thyroid), apathy and lack of self-awareness.

I'm a middle aged man. Never had a weight problem in my youth or young adulthood. I ballooned up to 250-260 after I turned 40 (mostly belly fat). In a matter of a few months I'm down to 225 just from watching the sugar to fiber ratio in the food I eat (no fruit juice, soda or "sugar added" food products). Not claiming to be a diet guru or anything, but I got a noticeable result without starving myself or hitting the gym.

Sugar is addictive and the food companies know this. In the 80's, we were advised that fat is bad and were bombarded with "fat free" products. To make "fat free" products palatable, they increased the sugar. Now at least half the country has metabolic syndrome that will overwhelm our medical system in the next few years.

You lost weight because you reduced calories.
I also had gained some weight, and I downloaded a calorie counter, plugged in 1.5 lbs per week of loss, didn’t exceed the calorie number on any day, and lost 30 lbs in 2 months.

But what actually works is doing what works for you. Your method had you believing it was the answer and you stuck to it, and the result was you reduced the calorie intake.
The “not starving yourself” part was because your method eliminated empty calories like soda so your calories felt more filling.

First part is not correct. Second part is because Keto deprives your body of energy producing food so it has to burn the hell out of anything else you eat to keep you on your feet. It also only works temporarily and plateaus

It’s gonna be a REALLY bad look for Goodell if Tyreek Hill is out there freely practicing in TC and he holds back Josh after 10 months of intense rehabbing for a victimless crime (and it wasn’t even a crime).

I can relate to JG’s demons, so I’m a huge fan of his success on all levels with sobriety being #1

It has the potential to be an awesome story...one day at a time. Let’s hope he gets the chance to live it

This is all so mind-numbingly stupid.

Josh Gordon wins big in one genetic lottery (physical) and loses badly in another (brain chemistry). I suspect he'd rather they were reversed. He's operating in a society that shames mental health troubles and criminalizes self-medication with just about anything not developed by big pharma. His employer is about 30 years behind the science (when they aren't distorting science) and treats a performance-reducing drug similarly to performance-enhancing, body distorting drugs. He needs structure, routine, and the stress reduction of physical activity. But, no, let's cast him out of the tribe where he can get these things instead.

Keep it simple...Josh needs to stay sober

That’s it, period. All the rest is secondary

No addict can blame anyone or anything for their affliction. All we can do is take responsibility for our sobriety.

Having said that, it’s not easy trying to live a sober life in our world. Some of your points are valid and true. But having been blessed to have lived a sober life for a long time, we don’t get angry over the things you mentioned.

The mantra of a sober person is total acceptance of all that is and will be. We stop fighting “the system” and just focus on sobriety and gratitude

My 1st cousin was on a very famous weight-loss reality show. He was morbidly obese. It's been about 15 years since hes been on the show and hes kept the weight off and still looks great. My uncle was an alcoholic and growing up was verbally abusive towards my cousins and aunt. Food was an escape for him. He met with a psychologist a few times to help him resolve his psychological issue but he really credits the dietician and his wife for opening his eyes on nutrition, portion control, etc. I agree, though. At the end of the day he had enough of his old life and made the commitment to change and be disciplined in his new lifestyle.

White sugar is pure evil. It pisses me off how much is in basic, everyday foods.

I think that to assume JG's issue is only marijuana is misinformed. Evidence previously published suggests he also has problems with alcohol and Xanax. If it truly were only about marijuana it would be simpler t0 treat and solve.

We are all huge footbal fans on this site and of course we want to see JG back in a Pats uniform hauling in darts from TB.

But I think we can agree that what is right is to do what is best for Josh. I would hope and expect that the Patriots have consulted an addiction specialist to determine if bringing JG back will help him or hurt him on the road to recovery.
As others have pointed out, since they re-signed him, It is likely that an addiction specialist has told the Pats thta he might be OK if he returns and gets lots of suppport.


Hopefully Goodell's decision is NOT based on punishment but what is best for JG.

But I do know that if someone is an addict, it doesn’t matter if the substance is booze, heroin or pot.
