JOSH GORDON REINSTATED

I think that to assume JG's issue is only marijuana is misinformed. Evidence previously published suggests he also has problems with alcohol and Xanax. If it truly were only about marijuana it would be simpler t treat and solve.

We are all buge footbal fans on this site and of course we want to see JG back in a Pats uniform hauling in darts from TB.

But I think we can agree that what is right is to do what is best for Josh. I would hope and expect that the Patriots have consulted an addiction specialist to determine if bringing JG back will help him or hurt him on the road to recovery.
As others have pointed out, since they re-signed him, It is likely that an addiction specialist has told teh Pats thta he might be OK if he returns and gets lots of suppport.

Hopefully Goodell's decision is NOT based on punishment but what is best for JG.

I've heard about him having a drinking problem but the Xanax is new to me. If that's the case it's very serious, especially when he's also drinking. People younger than me are dying left and right to benzos.

White sugar is pure evil. It pisses me off how much is in basic, everyday foods.
My doctor has a sign in his office that says

SUGAR CAUSES CANCER

And it’s true. But it’s not just white sugar. Sugar isn’t good, period

I've never had any lasting weight issues, mostly because I always caught the issue before it got bad. Hell, in the Army, you can't really let yourself go without consequences so there was some extra incentive. I was the weight control NCO in my last unit and spent a lot of time looking into some of this. I'm certainly no expert, but I never had a soldier fail to get within standard in time to avoid being chaptered, so I guess it's something.

Calories in/calories out is pretty simplistic. It works as long as the food choices are healthy and fit with what you're trying to do. You can lose weight and gain muscle on a 50 Carb/30 Protein/20 Fat diet, and you can get a ton of fat while avoiding carbs and binging on protein. You could lose weight on a 100% fat diet. The keys are insulin response and insulin resistance.

Chomping down on 6 Milky Way bars a day will put most of us under our caloric requirement, but spikes the insulin pretty high. Before long, a higher percentage of that sugar is getting stored as fat as time goes on.

If you have higher insulin levels, your body is going to store glucose, as either glycogen in the liver, and then when that is overfilled, as fat on your body. If you lower your insulin levels, your body expends stored glycogen, and then when that is depleted, digs into your fat cells.

I'll stop there, because I'm lazy right now, but there are a lot of ways to manipulate your body to do some incredible things...or really bad things. I got my most fit when I started thinking more about insulin than calories.

Good study that just came out on July 22: Error - Cookies Turned Off

I agree 100%....but it’s just an opinion

Who knows?

But I do know that if someone is an addict, it doesn’t matter if the substance is booze, heroin or pot.

It totally matters. Nobody steals from loved ones to get weed money. Alcohol destroys the body in a way the other 2 drugs you mentioned don't (at least until you try to stop taking heroin). Sure, there are similarities in the larger behavioral patterns, but it's an oversimplification and disservice to anyone going through this kind of thing to say it's all the same.

If Gordon is smoking weed, that's one thing. If he's washing down Xanax with liquor, it's something else entirely. His physical and mental abilities could take long term damage and he puts himself at much higher risk of doing something mortally stupid like crashing a car.

If thats what hes suspeneded for i don't get it. alcohol is legal and isn't exactly a performance enhancer when your running up and down the field and trying to catch a ball.
You don’t get that drinking on the job is a huge problem for anyone?

I don't want to get into good/bad sugar debate but a lot of it has to do with it's composition and the body's ability to process it normally. I don't think sugars found in fruits is not going to kill you.

I'm a middle aged man. Never had a weight problem in my youth or young adulthood. I ballooned up to 250-260 after I turned 40 (mostly belly fat). In a matter of a few months I'm down to 225 just from watching the sugar to fiber ratio in the food I eat (no fruit juice, soda or "sugar added" food products). Not claiming to be a diet guru or anything, but I got a noticeable result without starving myself or hitting the gym.
Putting it another way if you used to drink 3 sodas a day that’s about 420 calories a day or about 12500 over a month. A pound is 3500 calories.
So if you changed absolutely nothing else except drank a bottle of water instead of soda you would lose 3.5 lbs a month or 42 lbs a year. Or looking at it the other way 42 lbs of you are a year worth of those sodas
Sodas a great example too because you literally can cut it out and change nothing else because it has zero nutritional value.

Maybe you didn’t understand my point. From the addicts perspective, the substance or behavior one is addicted to is irrelevant.

What matters to us is that something is controlling our thoughts and lives and we can not live in peace until we can eliminate that behavior

Not in moderation, but one can eat too much of the wrong fruits

Also, it’s not really sugar, but carbohydrates that are unhealthy in excess.

Prior to 1900, the average American ate a couple of pounds of sugar annually. Today it’s over 150 pounds per year

If you're not somewhat educated on how shopping for healthy groceries (and a great deal of people aren't, because we don't all have the time to do so), it can be difficult finding al of items without added sugars. It's actually pretty ridiculous. Everything has sugar now. Especially drinks lol.

Yea i'll easily blow through a whole bag of grapes if I'm not paying attention...

First part is not correct. Second part is because Keto deprives your body of energy producing food so it has to burn the hell out of anything else you eat to keep you on your feet. It also only works temporarily and plateaus

You’re actually the one who is incorrect. Do a google search on insulin response to sugar. Almonds (fats and proteins) illicit a much lower insulin response; therefore, the calories are not stored in cells the way they are with sugar. Nutrition 101, my friend... try it for yourself, and I’ll bet you see good results.

Haha...don’t beat yourself up!

I don’t buy pretzels any longer cuz I’ll eat a 1lb bag in one day!

People today eat 500 calories more every day than they used to. And people wonder why Americans are obese.

If you count calories you will lose weight. 100%.

Oh, absolutely. Losing weight is that simple. The problem is the myriad changes that happen to your body from the process of losing weight that work to put it back on afterwards. And when somebody loses 20 pounds on a diet, then gradually puts the weight back on, everyone declares the diet a success and treats the subsequent gain as something separate. But both are actually part of the same long-term physiological process.

I happen to have an old friend who's one of the top researchers in this area, which is why I'm familiar with the literature. This book summarizes a lot of the current science:

We disagree. I will leave it at that.

So, I just ate an Almond Joy candy bar, washed it down with a soda, then smoked a joint.

Really gotta stop reading these threads.

Always smoke the joint first... duh ... lol
