I want him to do what he said he wanted to do. Play until age 45 or at least do what Kobe did.The only reason people want him to retire is that they don't want to deal with him anymore and they are desperately hoping that the Pats become very mediocre and average after that.
I don't know, seems straightforward to put together from all the stories we've heard over the years.
- He wants to keep playing until he sucks
- He loves the game so much that the doesn't want to reach that suckage point, and therefore has set a goal of trying to keep his body in the best possible shape until age 45 hoping it'll keep him from sucking
- If he still doesn't suck at that point, he'll reassess
- He has a family now and wants to be there for them, and part of his compromise is to avoid OTAs and do his offseason training in his facilities near his family.
- He views Michael Jordan as the best athlete ever and part of is motivation is to match/exceed him in championships. Jordan is at 6.
If the Pats win in 12 days, Brady's not retiring now. But getting the 7th to beat Jordan, combined with his being near age 45 and his family compromise, that might be the tipping point.
When did he say that about Jordan?
OT but related, just a reminder of this story where Brady and Jordan play a random pick up game in the Bahamas. Imagine walking by and seeing that.
Michael Jordan played pick-up ball with Tom Brady
Tom Brady "in awe of Michael Jordan", trying to be NFL’s first 6-time champion“I was in awe of Michael Jordan,” Brady said in an interview with ESPN, “and I still am in awe of what he was and what he meant. ... He was such an effortless player. He put a lot of effort in, but there's an art and a beauty to the way he played the game. That was a very inspiring thing.”
One scenario is a 2019 victory tour for Brady, Gronk and Edelman.

You mean this?He will retire when he goes through the Manning transformation. So far, he's nowhere close to that.

Even if he wanted to Gronk ain’t coming back unless he agrees to an absurd paycut.

Only 2 people count in the Brady retiring question.
Obviously BB can make a determination on his playing time which could factor into retiring. Speculation doesn't matter as he'll tell BB/RK in advance of his actual retiring and it will be announced after his last game is played. Until then, sit back and enjoy the sustain greatness.

Comments:
1.) During final episode of the "Tom vs. Time" documentary last year, Brady said he wanted TWO more.
2.) Brady's oldest son will turn 12 this August. I assume his son will probably start playing high school sports in 3 more years. At that time, Brady will probably want to be in the stands for those Friday night games.
3.) Brady's old man has always said that it would end ugly.
4.) I get a strong feeling that Brady is the kind of guy that if he were to retire 2-3 seasons too early...he will ALWAYS wonder what might have been. I feel that he would rather play it out to the bitter end.
5.) Brady has already confirmed that he plans on playing in 2019 and his contract runs through 2019. So, he is going to suit up for ONE more season at minimum.
6.) Yep, sounds like he's serious about playing to 45....he'll be 42 in 7 months. So, 3 seasons left, IMO.
This may well be the last shot the team has as the offense may need to seriously retool and that can't be done over night.
I keep seeing this storyline from the media that if we win, Brady should retire and ride into the sunset. My question is, why? He hasn’t slowed down all that much, arm strength is not an issue and he’s still clutch. He still seems to enjoy playing the game so why would he retire if he’s still playing championship Calibur football? It worked out well for manning because he was a shell of himself due to his neck surgery but TB ages like a fine wine. He’s said he wants to play until he’s 45 and I really hope that’s what ends up happening.
