Jacoby Brissett

If you think Dorsett is a good WR that is fine. Brissett has played well and so far he has offered the Colts more value than we have received from Brissett, that is not even debatable. For that reason so far the trade has been a mistake because as we sit today, Garoppolo is gone and we have a journeyman QB behind Brady with no internal QB prospect.

As others have said JBs strengths dont line up with our offense well enough to the point where the team traded him at the end of camp for a depth signing at WR/insurance for Cooks.

I dont see any mistake at all especially because Hoyer is a better backup QB for a single game than JB would be. You can still run a slightly limited version of our offense with Hoyer. He might melt down at some point and start throwing INTs but generally he can function better in a Josh McDaniels offense if Brady were to miss a few plays (or the rest of a game) than JB.

It is obviously not an ideal situation which is why they will draft (or acquire) a young QB in the offseason.

Schefter and others (Glazer...) on Twitter at some point before the games yesterday. Some sources (hint hint Lynch) were cited.

Brissett has done fine, but he strikes me as a player who will do better on a bad team than a championship contender.

The only debate is "could we have gotten more?" Playing in Indy has increased his trade value more than being the backup here. I agree with the Patriots that Hoyer is the better backup for this season and Jacoby was not a long term answer.

It was the right move in this context.

You’re right, you don’t understand. What point are you even trying to make, that you don’t understand how the word “prove” is used in this context?

The mods have tagged this thread w “hindsight“ (kudos!).
Ironically this hindsight is coming way too early..

I like the guy, end of story for me, best of success to him.

Moving on to Oakland game in Mexico

We both got something we needed. The trade was a win win. The Colts just so happened to need the piece they got in the trade that much more desperately, with Andrew Luck's surgical soap opera continuing far longer than they thought possible. Meanwhile, we picked up an important depth piece at a position that got racked by injuries this year, so I can't really say we lost out.

I can't hate a trade that put both teams in a better position to compete than they were before. If it benefitted the Colts more than us... the Colts had a much weaker roster, so that's not too surprising.

Best wishes for Jacoby's health and congratulations on being a starting QB.
It will be fun to have Jag vs Bisquick posts next week with JAG starting vs a depleted Seattle.

Even if it costs us another spot or two in the 2nd round, I would LOVE to see JAG (or Beathard) beat the Seahags.

Which is maybe 1/3 of what matters in being a QB.
I doubt that it accounts for even one-third. Arm strength is the only physically measurable attribute that matters and even a noodle armed QB like Chad Pennington was able to have some success. It still amazes me that after the tremendous career of Tom Brady, a quarterback whose physical attributes were in the bottom half of draft eligible signal callers, anyone should bring up physical attributes as a criteria for the position. Probably the same people who look at 40 yard dash times for punters.

I don't know man...I want a really high second round pick...I'm hoping for at least number 35 overall

To this point the trade appears to be a mistake. Jacoby looks like a legitimate NFL QB and Dorsett looks like a mediocre #4 WR.

But, we need a mediocre WR and Hoyer is better than Brisset.

Belichick makes mistakes just like anyone else. He watch Brissett getting 3rd strong reps, it’s possible his value arid was flawed as a result of his valuing Garoppolo so highly as a backup.

If we trade to get Brisset back as a starter, what are we going to do with Brady?

Pagano is an a-hole as are the NFL spotters and Indy medical staff.

Kid has an obvious head injury and they peddle him back out there.

Jerks

What make AJ and Garoppolo worthy of a second round pick and not Brissett? From a pure physical talent perspective Brissett is the superior athlete, has a superior arm, and has superior size, he is also several years younger and under the teams control for 2 more seasons.

You are overrating Brisset for some reason. Garrop reads defenses better and gets rid of the ball much quicker.

That's because the Colts suck. We're lucky we picked up a receiver. Hoyer is better than Brisset.

No he isn't but he's a better backup than Brissett so he meets our needs better which is what I think you mean

You were projecting Brisset as a starter here?

Yeah, Hoyer is proven as a starter and backup. Who cares what Brisset's potential is? We have a few years to pick up better and I bet we will.

I considered it possible but my point was that I DIDN'T project Brissett as a starter here but thought he could start in a system tailored to him, meaning he had more value to others than he had to us.

Our system is what it is because it's tailored to Brady. I doubt very much that if Brissett had become a starter due to a series of unfortunate events, Belichick would fail to rebuild a new scheme around what Brissett could and could not do.

I get what the OP is trying to say here. Brissett seems like a serviceable QB although I (and I think the team) have some questions about how much upside he has.... which is why they parted ways with him'

But my main takeaway from these recent QB moves is that Belichick does what's best for the team - but sometimes that means also doing what's best for the players'

Holding Garoppolo or even Brissett hostage for too long - denying them a chance to start - begins to work against you after awhile'

In hand picking their landing spots, Belichick creates a win win situation that also sends the message that BB treats players "right"
who work hard with a good attitude '
'
In the long run, things like that wind up attracting better players who value an organization who treats them fairly
'
Opening the doors for Brissett and Garoppolo to start sends a strong message that will attract other good players/free agents in the future
