How many former Patriots reside around the NFL? ‘Whatever the number is, it’s a lot’

“There’s, like, 70-something guys in the league that have been here that are playing for somebody else.”
Bill Belichick’s rough estimation in his Friday press conference wasn’t that rough at all.

As of Nov. 24, 71 former New England Patriots players reside on 53-man rosters around the rest of the NFL. Another 16 find themselves on practice squads, while 12 more find themselves on injured reserve. All totaled, that number sits at 99.

“I don't know. Whatever the number is, it's a lot,” said the Patriots head coach. “Seventy to 90, somewhere in there depending on how you want to count the practice squad players and today’s waiver wire versus yesterday's waiver wire. There's a lot of guys out there. It's one of the highest numbers in the league. There's a lot of guys out there.”

Did Patriots draft all these players or they just played for Pats at one time?

I wonder what other teams numbers would be. Are the Pat's numbers high, low, or average in comparison to other teams.....

Felger was just saying on the pregame show that this is Bill's way of defending himself as a GM against those, Iike Felger, who think BB had a bad off season with personnel.

A meaningless number. 65 of those or so are current pats. Given the number of journeymen who have played on 4 or 5 or more teams, it's impossible to know what the league average is. Plus many of those are borderline (jag) players almost by definition.

The article discusses former Patriot players and lists them all by team.

There are quite a few just from this year's cuts and UFA ex-Pats (pun intended). If I have time later, I'll try to work up a current list using rostermon.com.

The numbers vary quite a bit from week-to-week, though. A few of the Pats 2017 cuts have been on 2-3 different teams since.

Only one on the Texans surprised me. We have more former players on their coaching staff

Note: some players such as Brandon King and Cameron Fleming were released and re-signed, but were included in their original status since they were never with another organization. Same goes for a player who became a free agent after his contract expired but re-signed with the Patriots. Players such as Chung and Bennett are placed in the categories depending on how they were most recently acquired, rather than how they were originally signed before departing to another team.

The Patriots have 31 player that have played on a cumulative 63 different NFL teams.

It stands to reason that better teams (like the Patriots) would presumably have a lower than average number (63) on their own roster, and higher than average number (99) of their former players on other team's rosters. The reason is simple: it is more difficult to make the roster of a good team and easier to make the roster of a bad team.

Did Patriots draft all these players or they just played for Pats at one time?

Yes, that's beside the point. How many players do the broncos, chiefs, steelers etc have on other teams??? Is 99 above average or below? Just giving a number with no comparison or context is meaningless.

So they list which pats players are on other teams. Oh, wow, why didn't you say so! That changes everything.

The Hawt Take crowd find reading the article "meaningless".

I would say he couldn't have been more wrong but I've seen his other posts. :D
Is 99 a lot? It proves what? Patriots are good at drafting? BB is a good GM? It's meaningless.

Your retort that "it lists the patriots players" is what's called a non sequitur. It makes no sense, doesn't address my point at all.

Belichick thinks we are one of the highest ... that's good enough for me ... it's not really important anyways.

Transcript: Bill Belichick Press Conference 11/24
Q: Do you mean the highest number of guys that have been here in New England that are now still on rosters elsewhere in the league?

BB: I think we have more players that are playing on other teams. I don't know if we're the highest. We're one of the highest; I can tell you that. I think we're up there pretty high. It depends on how you want to count them - starters, roster players, IR, practice squad. You can run all of the lists that you run and count them up however you want to count them up, but however you want to count them up, I think we'll be up there pretty high. Let's call it 90 players - there are 30 teams – that's three per team. We can talk about that every week, but we won't.

Readng the actual article has never been the norm here.
Apparently the norm for an idiot like you is that can't understand a simple post.

I deal with statistics every day so I recognize that when a number is used without context it can sound meaningful without being so.

You are a fool. 99 players, so what? What's the average? It's a poor way to judge drafting or GM efficacy. You're a buffoon though so I wouldn't expect you to understand anything about numbers.
