Do Patriot fans have less loyalty to Tom Brady than Browns fans did to Bernie Kosar

The day will come. But it doesn't come when the GOAT is playing like the GOAT just because you are going to lose the backup.

Here are the options as I see them.

1)If Brady is brady like in 2017 and does not retire JAG is tagged and traded.
2) if Brady falls apart this year and cannot be relied upon JAG becomes the QB and Brady retires or goes elsewhere
3) if Brady sustains a career threatening injury JAG becomes the QB and Brady retires.

I think all 3 are no brainers.

How ever the discussion here has been if Brady is brady in 2916 and shows no sign of decline you have to get rid of him because you can't lose Jimmy. That, to me, is idiotic.

There is a fourth option: Brady plays out his current contract, and is wished all the best as he returns home to chase the all time volume records with the Niners. No trades, no cuts, no hard feelings.

The mantra of "better a year early than a year late" is as old as some fans on this board. Perhaps Kraft won't let it apply to Tom Brady, but age WILL catch up with him, and by age 42 he will be playing on borrowed time. I'd love to see the GOAT play until he is 45 and go out a champion, but it's probably not realistic.

I'd hate to see the team exile him like Seymour or Mankins. And I'd hate to see him suffer a 2015 Manning (Super Bowl notwithstanding) or 2010 Favre type season while wearing the Patriots colors, in front of Boston fans who will be "I told you so-ing" about Garoppolo all season long.

I think the way things will play out is that Garopolo will be extended handsomely before the 2018 league year starts on a deal with a low cap figure for 2018. Brady will play at MVP level through the 2018 season. He will be allowed to walk or to retire. This will be spun as a football business move, but also as a sign of loyalty and respect to the GOAT, who is given the right to finish on his terms rather than being traded or cut.

I sure hope Brady will retire a Patriot, and retire on his own terms. He has done so much for the Patriots, he owes nothing to the fans (nor the team for that matter, IMO), so when he'll decide to call it quit, in a year or 10 years from now, I'll be fine with it. In the meantime, I'll enjoy watching Brady play.

That being said, I think the title of this topic does not tell the whole story. If someone is going to ask, 'Do Patriot fans have less loyalty to Tom Brady than Browns fans did to Bernie Kosar?' than the topic should also include the following question 'Are the Patriots fans are more confident Belichick will do the right thing for the team than the Browns fans were ?'. Because the backstory to the Browns fanbase reaction to Kosar's cut was about Belichick not knowing what he was doing, an outsider without a single wining season cutting one of their own, their hero.

I don't give a shyt about Bernie Kosar, the ****in' Cleveland Browns or any more attempts to make parallels with BB's tenure in Cleveland with his past 16 years here. I'm a lifelong Patriots fan. THAT is where my loyalty resides. All those that played or coached for the Pats have my undying appreciation. Even thinking of using a freakin' Bernie freakin' Kosar analogy to question Patriot fans is anathema to me.

It's not a parallel to BB

When mediocre and over the hill Bernie Kosar lost his job fans of his team were upset, saddened and distraught.
When Tom Brady wins his 5th SB fans of his team are plotting to get rid of him.

It's about the ungrateful fan base of this team, or at least in this board.

It has nothing to do with belichick or his decision

It is fans NOW suggesting belichick should get rid of Brady. He won't but idiot fans want him to.

Bob was amazing with toner always with a spotless white shirt and a killer with a ream of paper....simply unforgettable. No comparison with Tom Whatsisname.

Forcing Bob into retirement was a mistake. The company hasn't won anything since. "Bob's getting old they said." "Billy will be just fine and covered Bob's vacation perfectly they said. " And now? Paper jam after paper jam.

They forgot that it was Bob who set the toner for the whole office.*

Could be, I have not read all the threads about this nor do I want to, but from my perspective the few that are arguing in favor of Garoppolo are doing so in light of Adam Schefter's news that the Pats are planning on keeping Garoppolo past the 2017 season. Under that scenario, there's the possibility that Belichick might have already planned Brady's succession.

Again, all this is under the assumption Schefter's source is legit. If it's the case, then the question ''Are the Patriots fans are more confident Belichick will do the right thing for the team than the Browns fans were ?' is valid, as most Pats fans will side with Belichick's decision should he decide to move from Brady to Garoppolo, given his track record on player personnel moves (which Browns fans never got to appreciate). It would be a very sad day for Pats nation should that happen, but the possibility exists.

Lets hope it never comes to that. To quote Brady ''I'm having too much fun right now''.

a page or two back everybody was saying "that day will come, but not yet" or variations of that... I just caught up, and feel obligated to post this...

As often happens your wording makes it difficult to follow you, but if you're saying fans want Belichick to "get rid of Brady" now, you're really just making things up.

Red kept the Big three in tact through loyalty. His rare but biggest mistake. The Celts suffered for years after that.

If Jimmy is the future in BB's opinion then Brady has two years left. The Goat. Boston legend. Adored forever. At 42 years old that is not disrespect. That is doing what is best for the team's future success. Brady will hopefully have six and his health.

In two years I as a fan and STH want a possible ten more years of dominance than a possible two years of loyalty. If BB believes in JG the he should order the code Red.

I haven't read through all these threads there are to many but I dip in every once in awhile. Your logic is sound.

If I had to guess Brady will play until 2019 and then he will retire. So.. if and but and if... and because...

If I had to take a shot I'd say this is the going away party for Brady in 2017. Maybe they find a way to keep him for 2018 but its highly doubtful. All signs point that way anyway.

Hmmmm, you think maybe Reggie Lewis and Len Bias dying was the cause of the celtics suffering?

First off, I'm definitely with you in regards to team Brady. Just to get that out of the way.

I don't see quite as many people wanting to run him out of town, though. I see a lot of people saying things like "he's good for another 2-3 years," which is probably a reasonable assessment. Their one and only argument is that it would be better to miss out on a year of Brady than missing out on what they believe is the next franchise QB for many years. My personal stance is that Belichick will obviously do what's best for the team, and that they'll carry a nice chunk of cap space over into next year, which may give them the necessary flexibility to think outside the box and go into unprecedented waters. Yes, it sounds crazy, but Kraft has always had a franchise QB, and Belichick/Adams/JMcD all realize the importance of the position.

In other words, I think consideration could be given to a succession plan. While unlikely, it's not totally out of left field. First we need to get through this year and see what kind of variables are added/subtracted in the scenario. Belichick has already surprised us by turning down high picks (supposedly) for a year of a backup QB, when he's had a bunch of nobodies throughout Brady's career. That would seem a bit odd without the context of a bigger picture, but who knows?

The situation with Bernie Kosar was fueled by the fact that he was a local, hometown hero (about an hour away. We went to the same school district in Boardman), and the fact that Belichick was a brand new unproven coach who many felt had a piss poor attitude. Those two factors played a part, as did the fact that CLE had tasted some actual success for the first time in many years. Even though they had lost all 3 conference championships, people were hopeful and scared of the unknown. An abrasive new coach coming in and taking out the veteran, local hero didn't sit well. That explained some of the pitchforks and torches.

One'f the stupidest things I've read, hereabouts, is the claim that Gisele Bundchen will or will not let Brady play X number of Years. I'm sure that Brady treats his Lady with the Respect that she deserves, and consults with her on his Career Decisions, as she presumably consults with him on her Career Decisions...But to suggest that Brady asks her Permission to do anything...is pathetically stupid.

why is everyone so upset and bickering?

we have 5 rings in the last 16 years......greatest sports dynasty of this century

we should celebrate brady's greatness and soak up every minute of the rest of his tenure

then we should celebrate the transition to Jimmy G (if that is what happens) in a year or two
