DRAFT NFL Draft Rumors

Patriots are all about team and not individuals. No one is bigger than the team. It is just the way they operate. To them it is not personal but business. One thing for sure Gilmore wouldn’t retire a Patriot. He should but wouldn’t.

I have to admit, I have never looked at like this before. The whole team concept is pretty ingenious. Can’t believe no one ever came up with it before Belichick? Pretty smart on his part.

The Bears & 'Skins are too far away to acquire #s 7 or 8 (if not 10 & 11) without having to offer a package that Bill would be absolutely stupid beyond belief to match.
And now, according to the 2-Minute Drill segment on the NFL Channel's Moving the Chains program, not only are the 49ers amenable to trading Grop, they would be willing to do so This Very Weekend...It's gotta be either Mac Jones or Justin Fields at #3; no way they're drafting Lance...
You have to take those rumors with a large grain of salt. Way more turn out false than true.

Exactly how does a coach go about convincing players whose paychecks rely solely upon their tape to go out and suck for a better team draft pick?
You can't convince players of that at all. It's why the Jets still managed to win a couple games despite trying to lose. Example of trying to lose was doing an all out blitz in a hail mary situation.

But had Bill let Thuney walk, weaker Oline, traded Gilmore, weaker secondary, and started Stidham, worse QB than Cam, all year I doubt the team finishes better than 5-11.

I think some of you are gonna be VERY VERY disappointed when BB sits on #15....and the 5th QB is there for the taking, but he then trades down!
I won’t be disappointed, I expect it, and would be shocked if he took the QB.

Look, I want a QB. This team has no future without drafting their franchise QB of the future. And I prefer they get him in the 1st round of the 2021 draft. I don’t think ANY of the 1st round QBs in 2022 are as good as the 5th best QB in the 2021 draft. That being said, BB doesn’t give a ****, he’s gonna do what he does, he’s a creature of habit. So I fully expect someone like DT Christian Barmore or a DB or an Olineman at 15, or lower, or not even in the 1st round. It’s just what BB does.

He doesn’t give a **** that he hasn’t had a GOOD draft since 2012, the draft isn’t the end all be all for him. He knows his teams have won 3 SBs since 2012, so who gives a **** about the draft. At least that seems to be his attitude.

No team TRIES to lose. That’s a moronic concept.

It's all Nike! Nike is the mastermind here!

The concept isn't about losing, it's about making decisions to improve your team not for 1 season, unless it's going to give you a superbowl opportunity, but to improve your team for the future.

Signing Thuney last year didn't help the pats for this season or any other seasons going forward. He only helped a mediocre team reach 7-9.

That was a terrible decision and no amount of spinning can say otherwise.

What would have helped the pats was not signing Thuney, and getting his 3rd round comp. Any extra games lossed that improved the draft position would have been gravy but not guaranteed.

Bill is chasing Shula and wants to win as many games as possible every year. Its as simple as that and he will not change. If you want a tanking coach hire Doug Pederson.

Gilmore will be traded. It is not a matter of if but when. He has been Dangled in trade talks repeatedly by the Patriots. He is not untouchable, far from it,
bill is that you?

We shall see on Thursday. It is 99 percent Jones or Lance. It looks like the 49ers are not high on fields Which I think is wrong move/pick but for some reason they like Jones or Lance more. It is their choice to make. I am not going to complain when they pick Lance or Jones because it is to our benefit.
I don't know. if the 49ers LOVED fields, wouldn't it make sense to say they don't like him? if they were drooling over him the the jets could possibly take him. all the talk about them not wanting fields makes me think they want him, but who knows....other than afapats lol

The niners traded up so that they don't have to play that game. The Jets also aren't going to base their pick on who the 49s might want. They pick the player they want not the player they don't want the niners to have.

I’m thinking that’s a pretty steep price. SF must really hate « the game ».

We will likely need to give Gilmore a raise/extension to have him stick around. Trading him opens up even more cap $$ and we could easily spend that money on Sherman on a short deal. I think Sherman would play on a contract with 7M AAV.....which is what we are paying Gilmore this year anyway.

Also, with Gilmore off the books, a QB on a rookie deal, and Hightower likely retiring/leaving in FA next year...we could still be active in FA again in 2022 and plug holes.
I would not be shocked if the Pats took Surtain at 15 and traded Gilmore on draft day.

There is nothing a coach can do that is worse than selling out their team. You are asking to them to train as hard as possible, study their asses off, give everything they have on the field, while making moves to ensure they don’t win. That’s a losing attitude and a losing culture, and one that breeds distrust and disgust. Belichick would never do anything approaching that, and that’s the most likely reason he kept Newton in, because even though he sucked Belichick knew the team had no faith in Stidham, and putting him out there would have brought the commitment to winning completely into question. And when the season ends and they are telling the players to work their asses off for the next season the players know they are full of sh.t, and they are looking for any way out of there.

It would be very Belichick-like to draft a CB knowing Gilmore is a free agent next year. however, it's more likely that Horn is the CB the Pats take if they go that route. If the Pats get Horn, this board will go into meltdown. However, some scouts are likening him to Jaire Alexander. I think he'll be a great addition.

Very true. The one caveat might be in the mold of when Danny Ainge traded the #1 overall pick to Philly for another asset and still got the player he wanted... not saying it’s an identical situation. Just devil’s advocate.
