The Patriots are not interested in Jimmy G. Been there done that. Time to move in a another direction. Jimmy G is too injury prone and not clutch. Pass
Exactly, next to injuries he makes too many mistakes..that's why they wanna move on from him as well, it's not just the injuries. And this is the reason I prefer a trade up for Fields/lance more than Jimmy

Fields and Lance are going to drop in the 9-10 range so it is about who do you prefer at that point. I think the Patriots prefer fields based on the reports coming out and he has played in a pro style offense unlike Lance.

All the noise about the Patriots and Fields probably means that they really want Mac Jones instead.
A lot of noise regarding fields. Almost as if they are inviting the Broncos to trade up.

IMHO, Shanahan/Lynch don’t have time to “develop” a QB. Mac is allegedly the most pro-ready QB, at least currently. Mac is also the prototype QB that Shanny is accustomed to operating with. He’s in that Ryan, Cousins, JG mold of QB; which to be fair, has taken him (or he’s taken them lol) to the SB twice. Additionally, in that division, they don’t exactly have the luxury of time on their side.

If the 49ers moved up to draft Mac Jones, a player who would have fallen to them had they stayed in their previous position, that tells you what you need to know about Jimmy G. The Patriots should stay away from Jimmy G. Pass.

I agree, I guess either they view Lance as maybe ready sooner than later but you don't give up that much which implies win now modus to me for a QB who is ready in 1 or 2 years after sitting on the bench..that's why i assumed they take Fields or Jones. I'd go with Fields if i am the 49ers

Exactly. That’s why the pick will be Jones. He is the most ready to play on day one ahead of fields and Lance.

I think Denver could have chosen Jones if the 49ers stayed at 12..that would be a little risky imo if you really like him..

The niners traded up so that they don't have to play that game. The Jets also aren't going to base their pick on who the 49s might want. They pick the player they want not the player they don't want the niners to have.

if you say so

Is it just me or does it seem like Zach Wilson is not being talked about at all, or at least not nearly as much as the other 4 QBs?

Feel like i never hear much about him on TV, articles, etc.. just seems to be going under the radar

Maybe just because everyone suspects its a foregone conclusion that he goes at #2?
Unless the Jets shock everyone and take Fields or Lance, it seems like Wilson has always been their preference. If it goes Lawrence, Wilson, Jones, one of either Fields or Lance should be there for the Pats if they want to trade up to get one. MAYBE the Jets are just trying to trick the Pats into trading up for Fields, and take Fields anyway. But I’d be very surprised if they don’t take Wilson.

I watched a few highlights of Fields, man can he play. Obviously it doesn’t include his bad plays, mistakes but man does he have elite talent

Sure, but no intelligent person would say he was worth giving up an entire season for. No player is worth that because anything, like Luck's concussions, can happen to even the most perfect prospect. It also didn't seem like he was headed toward a Super Bowl with that team anyway.

and what were Indy's other options at the time?

People here wanted to tank for Lawrence. while not a unanimous opinion, teams are all in different positions.....Luck added 9 wins to that team and they were in the playoffs their 1st 3 years with him.....they absolutely made the right call based on their options

He came into the year as the #2 rated QB prospect last summer. 2 years ago he had an insanely great season, which bumped him up to that #2 slot. This year, he had some bad games, which had people questioning his status as the #2 QB prospect. He had twice as many INTs in 2020 than he had in 2019, and he played 6 less games than in 2019. Basically 6 less games, twice as many INTs.

Whereas Wilson and Jones had phenomenal seasons, which bumped up their statuses.

There is no doubting Fields’ talent. A canon arm (maybe only Lance has a stronger arm), and despite more turnovers, he had a 70+ completion percentage. Obviously he’s a threat running. I love his competitiveness. And he’s tough. I would love if the Pats landed Fields.

I don't take much stock in the "Patriots called team X" reports. What do we know about Belichick? He's the most thorough coach in the NFL. He knows every rule, loophole, and analytics there is. He called other teams when the Jimmy G/Brady mess happened, in case he didn't get his way and Kraft meddled, so he had an escape plan. Of course they are calling everyone. He wants to know every option and be surprised by nothing on all three draft days. They will sit in the war room and know the following:

  • What it costs to move up to 4
  • What it cost to move up to 7 or 8
  • What will they expect to gain by moving down to mid 20's
  • What players expect to be available at 15
  • What can they gain to move out of round one all together (unlikely)
They will weigh all these options and have a distinct plan going in to Thursday, just like they did when free agency opened. They didn't care what everyone else did. Bill will have everything mapped out. Bet on it. It will unfold exactly as ...
