Kyle Shanahan: no guarantee Jimmy G will be on roster on Sunday

But they won’t throw him out there week 1 if he isn’t ready. Why not keep Jimmy as insurance?
I’m willing to bet whoever they pick at #3 they feel strongly he’s going to be ready to play week 1. I just don’t think you give up that much capitol to draft someone that high without feeling he won’t be ready to start from day 1.

I don’t think you can knows that until august.
Not being ready week 1 is barely even a set back. The best plan for a rookie is probably to sit at first, ease his way in to action and start by week 6-8 or so.

And that can be true, but i still don’t believe they want to pay JG 25 or so million just to hold the reigns for half the season until the rook is ready to go.

But they can afford it, that’s the thing.

But they can afford it, that’s the thing.
Just cause you can afford doesn’t mean it’s a smart business move, especially with some that we know is injure prone.

They expect to win this year. I think they start Jimmy who they believe they can win with. He knows the system so they can focus on the rookie instead of teaching the system to a new stop gap.
If Jimmy has them at 6-3 ish when the rookie is ready it’s a perfect scenario.
I don’t know why they wouldn’t want him the there.
If that's the case, then why is Shanahan answering questions or making related remarks in a manner that clearly disses Garoppolo? He's made it pretty clear that he wants that locker cleared out.

If his team doesn’t want him, so desperately that they are willing to trade 3 #1s to not have to have him as their qb and the most you think he is worth is a second round pick why would you think he is the long term answer to this franchises problem at QB?
Why should the patriots settle for someone you would trade 3 1s to replace and would be lucky to trade for a second?
You are saying his value sucks, but he’s the answer.
Which is it?

If SF believes they can win with him, but found an opportunity to get someone KS likes better, then okay.

If the Pats think they can win with him and don't see a better alternative, then okay.

So, his value doesn't suck (your first post).

I think it depends. If they pick Trey or Justin, JimmyG stays.

If they pick Mac, they can trade JimmyG.

If your jimmy and you just heard shanahan say that about you, are you calling two men and a truck and scheduling a visit from them on Monday?

I’m saying the 49ers think he has little value and the poster calling for getting him
Is excited because he will be cheap, meaning he has no value.

If he was the answer his own team wouldn’t be running through a wall to replace him.
I’m not sure the patriots want to build their team around a guy who’s own team thought so much of him they traded 3 1s for the right to not be saddled with him any longer.

Because he isn’t.

But it’s insurance so to them it may be a smart business move.

But as you’ve said he’s injure prone, paying 26 million for insurance backup isn’t smart business.

Fields will start sooner than Jones (all things equal)

Look I’m just explaining why SF may choose to keep him. Injury prone doesn’t mean as much when you have his replacement on the roster as if does when you are tying your future to him.

He has 25 million reasons not to. And no leverage.
By the way what shanahan said was fine, it’s no secret they traded up to get his replacement, there is no need to lie and pretend it’s his job for a minute longer than it takes to get the rookie ready

Young was acquired specifically because Walsh loved him despite not having an opening for him to play. Entirely different.
Didn’t BB originally get Jimmy because he loved him despite not having an opening ?
