LOL...this is becoming like the RLKAG comment.

I love this infographic and haven't seen it in too long, so re-posting it here!

Trask is not going to be good. He has some great talent around him at Florida, but I really don't see him surviving in the NFL. The Kyle the Pats should go after is his team mate Kyle Pitts!

We always have the slim hope of a miracle situation like BB trading up in the draft for a legit QB prospect.
Or, pulling a blockbuster deal for someone like Watson or Jimmy G. But, my question is more realistic.
What is your gut sense for our starting QB next year, and why:
1. Newton
2. Stidham
3. Vet FA (ie: Dalton, Brissett)
4. 1st-2nd Round Draftee (ie: Wilson, Trask)

1. I consider this the most likely to be very blunt. If we can’t find anyone, we probably roll with Newton. If we draft someone, I still see Newton filling in until the coaching staff is ready for the new guy. I only see Newton not being here if he retires or we find a clear free agency upgrade.

2. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not on the team next year. He can’t beat out Newton, Hoyer gets nods over him, and he’s a train wreck with no upside every time he plays. The fact that he was almost our starter makes me think Bill totally miscalculated on not giving Brady a contract.

3. Low possibility. Too much gas to go right here. A clear upgrade has to be in the free agency market, they have to want to go here, we have to be willing to make the money work. This team gets sticker shock a lot and a QB is the worst for that. Someone like Stafford is going to look for a 30 million + contract with lots of guarantees and will find it. Also a vet might look for win now (we aren’t). Who even knows how dry the market could be.

4. higher probability than 3. There are a lot of QB’s in the draft. However we are likely going to be on our 4th/5th/6th highest grades QB based on our likely draft position even if we lost out. Which then you have to wonder if the coaches wanted to use the 1st round pick OR move on and look for value in the 2nd round. I kinda feel like there is a chance they will feel like they are reaching and pass. Which brings us back to Newton

All I know is no more Gators. Yuck.

Newton reminds me of one of the multitude of sore-armed, 30+ year-old pitchers that the Red Sox have had over the past decades. Lost their fastball, can't get guys to swing and miss. Have one decent start and then three bad ones. Newton is just like one of those guys. Can't lift his elbow above his shoulder without pain, and his release point is now so low that he is, in effect, a 5'9" or 5'10" quarterback. Some of his passes are not being blocked--they're just hitting guys. We're probably going to hear about his shoulder problems after the season, along with the stories about how much better he's going to be next year after surgery and/or rehab and/or some new type of treatment. These stories do not end well.

Depends on Cam's contract demands. If he's cheap - really cheap - he stays.

I expect BB to draft one of the top 4 - maybe Mac Jones, but again, who knows? (I've watched Jones a few times and he checks down beautifully and can also let it fly - someone might be getting a steal with him late-1st/early2nd round.)

But again, who knows? This team has so many needs for elite athletes. They need a stud at DL and at WR. They need a TE. They likely need a LB unless they're seeing things on tape that aren't evident elsewhere. Are Bentley/Uche/Jennings/Winovich enough? Serious question: they're making rookie/2nd year mistakes, sure, but they're all showing great flashes.

For all of that, my off-the-wall guess is that JimmyG won't renegotiate with SF (here's his contract: Jimmy Garoppolo) who can easily end the era this year or pay him $24m. Not sure of the relationship there, but if what I read was true, BB and Kraft loved him, but Kraft loved Brady more. I could see him back here on a prove-it/middling QB deal, which I think he'll need if SF and he part ways.

In case that link didn't work: this year, SF paid Jimmy 23.8, but would have had a dead hit of 28.6 if they cut him.
Next year, they pay him 24.1 in salary, but have only 2.8 in dead money to cut him. That's not a typo. 2.8m. Not a good year for Jimmy to be getting hit with nagging injuries, particularly given his first 2 years there. Going into this year, I figured he'd need at least a repeat of 2019 to stick around, and he isn't getting that.

In the end, with NE, I do think it's Cam. I think he wants to stay and knows his play has been way off this year. (I also think he is still struggling with COVID brain, and I'm not kidding. It's common, and it leads to exactly the kind of things we're seeing in Newton.)

My gut says Jimmy G. I just don't see the 49ers keeping him on at his current deal, which makes him a UFA. And once he's a UFA, NE is the obvious landing spot.

The batted passes have driven me insane. Against the Texans he hit JJ Watt in the elbow, it's not like these guys are just getting a fingertip on the ball. Looks like the coaches tennis racquet drills aren't working.

COVID brain? Ha! That's a good one. That makes him throw stupid passes!? You and all the rest of the sheeple thinking that "test positive" means you're sick or get sick. Cam never had symptoms. He didn't get sick.

This is why I don't buy the "Covid fog" excuse for Cam. He and his father claimed he was asymptotic so had he not been getting tested even day there was a good chance he never would have even known he had it.

Fitz stats with the Bucs in 2018 are remarkable. Perfect representation of his career.

Week 1 - 417 yards, 4 TD, 0 int, 156.3 passer rating
Week 2 - 402 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT, 144.4 rating
Week 3 - 411 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT, 81.3 rating
Week 4 - 126 yards (threw only 18 times), 0 TD, 1 INT, 49.8 rating
Week 5 - 194 yards, 2 TD, 0 int, 154 rating
Week 6 - 243 yards, 4 TD, 2 int, 89 rating
Week 7 - 406 yards, 0 TD, 2 int, 82 rating
Week 8 - 167 yards, 0 TD, 3 int, 43 rating

I don't think I could stomach the ups and downs like that if he came to the Pats.

I think that they will re-sign Cam because he will be dirt cheap and they will also draft a QB...most likely a second tier guy

i would also be fine with a vet FA...one that can actually throw. I know Cam has had some really good games, but i don't think he is healthy for some reason. every pass looks like a struggle and takes maximum effort.

We have been VERY fortunate to have Newton. Without him, I think we are 2-9 right now.....

Oh, for f*** sakes. "Brain fog" is a real side effect from COVID - one study had 8-in-10 COVID patients suffering from neurological after-effects.

If you watch Cam when he first got back, he was going through his progressions way too slowly and his passes were often just behind the receiver. These are exactly the kinds of things you would look for. You don't have to be symptomatic (as in, feeling sick), either.

I'm not diagnosing, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Now please, go drink your bleach and write to Eduardo Rodriguez and tell him to quit pretending he's got heart problems, okay?

Trask lost 2 starting WRs to the 2020 NFL draft.

Trask will be good in the NFL. Hopefully the Pats are able to take him.

1st-2nd Round draftee and a Vet starter for next year (Maybe Cam). I expect Bill to target one guy and get him.
