Without any hyperbole, there have been at least 3 threads posted in the past 2 weeks about a perceived slight on NE/Brady by the media. It's their job to drop hot takes and get people to link the article, which is exactly what happened here.

I’m going to have to disagree with you. The only other thread about a perceived slight to Brady was Bernard Pollard’s take that Brady is not the GOAT. It didn’t come from the media at all. And even Pollard’s opinion was not that bad - he said he put Brady at 2nd overall all time. I think this is worse - knocking Brady out of the star category altogether after he just won his 6th ring.

Honestly, I think Skip Bayless’s take there is reasonable. If Brady has just won 3 Super Bowls and none since 2004, I wouldn’t say he was “overrated” there but certainly a bit disappointing for a guy who was ready to take the GOAT reigns after four seasons as a starter. Skip (and Cowherd) are Brady’s biggest fan boys now because of what he has accomplished/proven since that championship lull. “Overrated” just wasn’t the right word there but the Skip’s point was he isn’t totally immune to criticism.

May I suggest a compromise of putting an article like this in an existing Brady thread? I had put this same article into the Brady Greatest Ever thread a little before this thread was made. I agree that there’s no rule against posting articles like this and many people like to comment on these bad takes. Perhaps you could just drop into another relevant thread if one already exists? The other thing is this article is Dan Hanzus’s opinion, who we know to be an obvious idiot. It isn’t like a panel or NFL.com writers; many articles on NFL.com are in direct contradiction to this drivel. Peace.

Now that I think about it, they're right; Brady is not a superstar anymore.

Don't disagree with you, but you can't deny the times Brady was reacting to shadows on pass rushes and being a little slow getting the ball out at times, and even misreading defenses on occasion.

Now based on some of the clips we've seen this off season, Brady's speed has gotten better. His arm strength hasn't decline any. So I doubt when I go down to TC I'm going to notice any "slippage" in those areas. But the one thing I WILL be looking closely at all through this season is how well he is moving within the pocket. For most of his career Brady has been EXTREMELY elusive within the pocket. He constantly made the first man miss. Only Marino was in his class at that skill. That is where I thought I saw the most "slippage" last season.

BELIEVE me, Ice. We are never going to see a "cliff" from Tom Brady. But the fact is 42 is 42 and things slip. It's the time where your mind has to make up what you body has lost. THAT's where Brady still shines and why for the next year or two QB should NOT be a position of concern for the Pats. In what might be considered a down year for him, what he did in the playoffs showed that if you need a QB for a must have drive at the end of a key game. Tom Brady is STILL the #1 guy everyone would want (Bernard Pollard aside )

I went to the Detroit game (business clients who were Lions fans, so it was the only Patriots loss where I was kind of okay with the result considering they are half of our business!) So, I saw up close all of the jitters, discomfort, lack of mobility that you noted from Brady. The thing is, though, Brady, like anyone, goes through stretches like this at times. It's partially due to his supporting cast and partially due to him (injury, confidence, etc.) Every QB has stretches like this where they are rushing through progressions and just not clicking...it's just part of sports in general with every athlete. So I think we largely agree...it's just mind-boggling how FEW people can chalk it up to "a sub-par performance" which is part of the normal ebbs and flow of playing QB, rather than the total overreaction that his age has caught up with him. Phantom pass rush? Locking in on one player? Looking immobile? Find a season where these haven't been issues at time for Brady, or anyone.

My client opined that maybe Brady was too old. While I didn't embarrass him with a disagreeing response, I understood why an outsider who doesn't follow the Patriots would form that opinion watching that game. I was just certain that wasn't the case.

I’d be happy to, but the mods need to merge all the “Brady sucks” threads into one mega thread for this approach to make sense. Right now, one thread is about Pollard’s comments about him being the 2nd best QB of all time, which has nothing to do with how well Brady is playing now. The other thread is about Brady throwing the ball 61 MPH, which is more about Brady still driven to be the best.

Yeah he's had games like that going to 2005 that I can remember clearly. Week 2 game against Carolina, he was ducking and dodging on phantom rushers, silly penalties and missing wide open players. Frustrating for all involved.

For the life of me I'm trying to see how Brady's performance last season was "less than" year's past, but don't see it in light of what I watched. That offense was sporadic and inefficient at times, while other times it was great. This can be said of the entire team at one point or another last season.

The special teams took until the midpoint or trading deadline to figure themselves out. The defense took until the Bye week (week 12) to figure themselves out. The offense was terrible to start the season, great for a half or a game here and there, then outright terrible for another.

Brady's number's on the year:
375-570 attempts - 66% completions - 4355 yards - 29 TD's - 11 INTs - 98 QB Rating

The only number that is glaring here are his interceptions. Let's delve deeper.

This article below was written after five games. Three of his first six interceptions were not his fault, two of his receivers let the ball slip through his hands into those of a waiting defender, the third was tipped at the line of scrimmage.

Just off the top of my head I can recall Gronk doing the same thing against Buffalo, Develin did the same thing vs Chicago, Edelman did the same thing against the Vikings... I'm pretty sure there was one more, but let's leave it there. Crappy receiver play and one tipped ball lead to at least 6 of those interceptions at minimum. Bad football...

Not to mention Josh Gordon only caught 59% of his targets, and around the Minnesota game Jules had a wicked case of the dropsies...

375-570 attempts - 66% completions - 4355 yards - 29 TD's - 5 INTs... adjust those INT's and his QB rating jumps dramatically, his completion percentage jumps also if those balls are caught and the receivers play better all season. Those are typical GOAT Tom Brady numbers.

The offense had to play better, they played great against the Jests in week 17 because to start the game Hogan and Dorsett were the focal point which opened things up for Jules, Gronk and the rest. If you make the defense defend the whole field, respect every weapon then they can't possibly cover them all. Josh did a better job game planning and scheming to get these guys involved as the season progressed.

Brady isn't the one who scares me, Josh scares me... is he going to revert back to five step drops and 15-20 yard routes only, forget screens, draws, sweeps, play action, trickery, forget that Dorsett and other weapons exist, become vanilla all over again?

I think wth a new set of massive WR's Brady has another great year and the notion of the cliff is destroyed yet again.
