Patterson at the end of the season in Minny played really well. He caught mostly screen passes but it was quite impressive. I do know much about his presence in Oakland and I am not so sure he will play outside WR for us.However this guy might be a proven and valuable part of our offence. As I remember well Minny also paid a big ransom to grab him in the first round so he can't be a random player. His problem was his attitude and behaviour not ability of playing football. I believe if he is well motivated he will be a good player.

And Minny paid that "draft ransom" to ... the Pats.

Wasn't me, though I too seem to recall reading that quote.

For the record, I understood why Chandler Jones had to go, especially after he showed up uninvited at the Foxborough PD, though at the time I had ass-umed that the money saved would go towards re-signing Jamie Collins. Oops.

There was then/is now no need to release DMac, especially when Harmon is Next Man Up, but I am obviously disappointed that no legitimate competition for his role has been brought here in 5 years, not only to deepen the talent pool, but to apply pressure on him to re-structure his albatross of a contract.

It could’ve been worse. We could’ve let DMac walk and pursued revis long term.

Patriots camp report 07.27.18: Marcus Cannon exits, Trent Brown still the guy at LT | Boston Sports Journal

Hangtime:
Ryan Allen
......Corey Bojorquez

1- 3.88.................... 4.63
2 -4.38.................... 4.39
3- 4.15.................... 2.7
4- 4.45 ................... 4.57
5 -3.84.................... 4.62
6- 3.71 .....................4.78
7- 3.87
8 4.3
Average 4.07........... 4.28

A few thoughts:
  • There’s little question Bojorquez has the much bigger leg, but this may come down to consistency and his 2.70 horrendous shank is not going to help things.
  • Still, even with the shank he had the better hangtime (which isn’t the end-all and be-all on punting but considering we can’t roam the sideline and mark off yardage, that’s all we have to go on).
  • If you take the shank out, Bojorquez’s advantage was even more pronounced: 4.60 to 4.07.
  • Should be fun to watch this play out.

Everyone’s getting a woody over Patterson lol. The guy likely will be special teams.
Nah. Depending on the matchups and injuries he'll see anywhere from 5-15 plays on offense a game.

"IF" Patterson is standing out on Offense...this Defense could be potentially worse than last years. Let's not get carried away Patterson sucked in every Vanilla Offense he's played in. The Patriots don't run a vanilla Offense.

Umm... all I said was "Patterson is turning heads in camp" and posted Tweets of folks noticing that particular item. I did not make any declarative statements one way or the other.

That’s what we will find out. How good can this defense be. Everyone’s high on Shelton. Can he be that force on the d-line. Malcom Brown has been inconsistent . Curious about rivers coming back from ACL.
I'm not as high on Shelton as everyone else is. Hes a big body. Zero pass rush ability. He'll help the run D for sure. He might see some games where he'll only play a few snaps.

Yeah. Since, AFAIK, no one tracks where punts are made from on the field, it's somewhat helpful to consider things like touchback percentage, the percentage of FC versus Return Attempts, etc. to get a more well-rounded impression of a punter's situational effectiveness. Allen has consistently been among the top 10 punters in the league by such metrics.

Of course, the unanimous assumption is that "Bojo" was brought in purely as competition for Allen. OTOH, the Pats knew that they were going to have an extensive competition for Punt Returner this Camp - meaning, potentially, a lot more punting than usual. IOW, it's possible that Bojo was brought in mostly as a "camp leg."

They aren't tracked by individual punts, but you here is a general tracking:
Ryan Allen: Situational Stats at NFL.com

15 of 53 punts came from the Opponent's side of the field. That's 28%.. That's going to put a significant dent on the Yards per punt.

Then why can’t they make the playoffs? Injuries aren’t an excuse, every team has them.
I dont care if they made the playoffs or not. You are dead wrong to say their offense is horrendous. 100% absolutely wrong. Last year, they were #1 on net passing offense and #4 overall. Stick to the facts.

Dont get why people think Ryan Allen is on his way out. Just from watching the games, the Patriots offense put him in the position where it was GOOD to not have 50, 55 yard punts.

PEDs help. I don’t blame the man he did what he had to do to get back to 100 percent. I’ll get crucified for saying that but it’s true. We don’t have him for four games because of it.

I can’t wait to watch him in week 5

I mean I wouldn't put it past him or any other professional athlete, but what we know about his failed test doesn't really indicate he actually "did it".

Run D was our Achilles heel so if Shelton is a remedy I will take him in a heartbeat. I am aware he is not Donald or Cox but I expect he will help us to stop mediocre RBs from tearing us apart.

It will be interesting to see what happens.. Hang time doesn't matter much if the ball goes deeper than it's supposed to and ends up giving the other team Touchbacks..

I think people just get excited about potential change. Thing is, by all accounts Bojorquez has been trash in both OTAs and camp.

I haven't really thought on the position, but the 3 c's would indicate that it's at least a reasonable position to take.

I just wanna see our DL collapse the pocket when it comes to the run. I don’t expect him to be a pass rusher. Want him to be a disruptive force on the line when it comes to stopping the run.
