What is Wrong with Brady? The Debate Continues...

Even with Edelman having been gone all season, Brady is currently completing 67.5% of his passes, which is the second highest percentage in the league. That is .1% higher than last season, and the second highest completion percentage of his career. Even during the last 4 games, a stretch that includes the Miami stinker, he's completing 64.1% of his passes.

In other words, even during this oh-so-horrible-and-inconsistent 4 game stretch, Tom Brady's completion percentage would be good enough for top 12 in the league, just .1% lower then Roethlisberger. So to claim that Brady's been "very inconsistent not only with his accuracy but with his decision making" is just ridiculously poor analysis.

Brady missed practice wednesday with an archillies flare up!

No doubt that injury is going to bother him for th rest of the year!

Maybe.

Maybe he’ll benefit from the bye week enough to win a couple of games at home and then have another bye week.

Also, I don’t know that we should consider it a “flare up” as you’ve described, because they’ve been managing it for awhile, now. He returned to practice today, so it seems as though he’s tolerating it. If it were that serious, he’d have sat today, if not this week altogether.

I'm getting weal weal scared!!!! Supa...hold me...?

Even if we keep the obviously blown call on the INT in first Buffalo game, and the probably blown route by Britt in the second Buffalo game, we get the following.

Tom Brady's QB rating in the last 4 games, including the Miami stinker:

87.6

Tom Brady's QB rating over the last 4 games minus the Miami stinker:

91.7

Just looking at that second number, and just removing the obviously blown non-call:

97.2

So, just to show the impact of the two anomalies (Miami was the annual stinker game, Buffalo game 1 PI not called), if you take those out, Tom Brady's "bad play" would give him a QB rating that would put him in a tie with Aaron Rodgers for the 7th highest in the NFL.

And, just to take that the final step, if the INT was on Britt and we take that out, Brady's "bad time" minus the Miami game would still have him with a QB rating of 102.8, and would have him at #3 in the league.

So he's 2 shady plays away from nobody saying anything except that the Miami game was a ****ty game for the whole team.

But...... PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let a particular statistic S' be formed from a statistic S by disregarding selected plays, non-calls, and games. Let P and Q be two players. One cannot conclude anything by comparing S'(P) with S(Q). One must compare the same statistics generated from the same rule of the two players.

In other words, if one disregards bad calls against Brady, one must likewise disregard bad calls against Rodgers.

No

If the issue is whether or not Brady is playing poorly, and you're actually digging into his play, you don't count an obviously blown official's call as him playing poorly. That's common sense.

Comparisons to fixed outside info still holds, because that's kind of the point of it, when you turn to the numbers, really.

lol

way to manipulate the data to fit an agenda

lies, damned lies, and statistics

lets take out jimmy g's worst game of the last 4.....then take out a close call that went against him.......then take out his worst play

then run the numbers on his new passer rating.......this is embarrassing deus

where do you get this calculation?

last 4 games

week 13 buff 21/30 258 0 td 1 int
week 14 mia 24/43 233 1 td 2 int
week 15 pitt 22/35 298 1 td 1 int
week 16 buff 21/28 224 2 td 1 int

total 88/136 1013 4 td 5 int

passer rating 81.53

maybe i am wrong here

what say you @Joker @Jackson 2

I think your numbers are correct, and I can see your point. I think what some of the other posters are saying is that the gap between panic mode and just average-to-good play is smaller than people realize.

The blown call on the Gronk INT is one popular example, as is the route that Kenny Britt blew. Once you take those couple of plays away, it helps to put things in a different perspective.

Would some possibly see it as cherry picking stats to bolster their argument? Maybe, but it also helps to show that things may not be quite as bad as some are suggesting. Ultimately, I think we need to get some guys healthy, and that obviously includes Brady. I think we’ll see a better performance after the bye week of rest.

I'm beating a tired horse here, but if you think that extra rest would help Brady now, why didn't you support giving him extra rest at the start of the season (or at other less critical points in the season). Surely you can't still maintain that putting the backup in would have cost games.

I mean, I agree with what you're saying here - extra rest is good - I just don't understand why people are waiting until week 17 to finally realize this.

By the way this happened in baseball too. Years ago, managers took a macho approach to pitchers and used to pitch them complete games for no particular reason. Finally, the desire to win titles took precedence over a desire to show how tough pitchers were, and managers acceded to common sense and rested pitchers more.

As average as some of Brady’s numbers have been lately due to various beliefs, we’ve still only lost 1 game during that stretch, and that was @Mia where we’ve lost in 4/5 past years.

I think Brady plays because he gives our team the best chance of winning, and it’s just as simple as that. I mean, the only reason I think the bye week of rest will help is due to some injuries that could use some healing time. On the other hand, you’re advocating the idea of resting the greatest QB of all-time in the beginning of the season when he’s totally healthy, so I think there’s a big difference, there.

Jesus what an asinine comparison.

Apart from the obvious which is 10x the amount of games played in a baseball season, football is actually a team game where you need to work as a cohesive unit with only limited reps in practice that cant even come close to real game conditions because of injury risk.

There is no equivalent to being a QB in any major sport. Stop comparing apples with piles of ****.

Run game is important to take into account considering it’s started to pick up.

Give me a 40 year old Tom Brady over any QB in this league.
