Rewatch Pats @ Steelers

And the first Steelers TD.

The Coaches film came out today. I’ll try and post a couple of plays. The first is the Cooks out of bounds play.

Jesus.. You are going through more effort than necessary to generate them. Get ScreenToGif or some other Windows tool to generate them directly instead of actually filming your screen, mate.

No clue. That seems like the base definition of illegal man downfield.

And as usual everyone (media, fans..) gets distracted and argues about the shiny stuff (James non-TD) instead of actually investigating the real controversy.

For all the flak Butler got for shanking the coverage on James. I think his heads-up play to tackle Heyward-Bey to keep him inbounds (to keep the clock running) was actually the play that won us the game, IMO, because the clock not stopping caused all the chaotic panic we saw from the Steelers- the timeout, the conflicting play call, the half ass slant that got intercepted.

Fortunately that Rowe who was in star, was cognizant and didn't bite on the fake spike but executed perfect technique in defending the pass, while most everyone was expecting the spike.

I disagree with Gilmore ****ting the bed- I thought he did a good job aside from the 2 big plays. But the good thing I saw is that he's getting better at playing the trio we use against the 3 bunch- not his fault he got stuck on a yoyo out of the trio on that big completion.

We really are missing Van Voy- nobody plays the spill tech better than he does. Our big liability right now is coverage on the 2nd level which invariably leads to trouble in the backfield.

Two Goats

1) Seem/MOF. Gronk heads directly at Davis, crosses his face and gains natural separation bc of his size.

Dupree rushes 1/2 man to gain outside edge & tries to hit 77 with a rip but Nate hits him with a decent enough punch to to keep him away from Brady.

Thuney does a good job of getting his hands on 97 but again can't get inside. Cam uses his locked up right hand to overload on side while disengaging his left.

Remember Olinemen just have to survive, not win.

Shaq feels his man with his right before locking up inside to gain control. Very good rep.

2) Motion/Man - DB Blitz. Gronk gets a free release & makes a great catch considering he knew a hit was coming.
Great throw from Brady.

Nate does a nice job of keeping the DB outside of Brady's pocket.

Very impressive rep by Thuney here. Cam goes for the Bull/Snatch but gets nothing to pull bc Thuney is already inside, locked up & anchored down. Cam goes for a quick swipe but 62 holds him off.

Great work by the right side. Check out Shaq. Gets his hands dirty first & on both men.

3) Look at the communication between the entire offense here.

Davis has to either play the man or route and does neither. Either hit or get hands on 87 or get inside his hip underneath on the crosser.
Davis bites early, flat-footed and Gronk is off. Amazing catch.

Solder wins the arm length battle between Watt & eventually gets a handle on him.

Another nice rep by Thuney here. Again gets inside & anchors down. Technique is very good. He needs a few more lbs. Looks like Cam goes for another push/pull Bull/Snatch type move but 62 is locked up.

Great mobility from Brady. Just dancing around the chaos.

Nice pick up by Shaq and follow through by Andrews.

4) What a group effort. Allen on Davis, Gronk on Tuitt. Whole line gets some.

5) If you slow down 1:56-1:57 you can Sean Davis lose his soul. Nothing special by Gronk. No jab step etc, simple fake & Davis just spazzes out. Tough game

Mentioned it in @patfanken idle thoughts thread but here is another look that will make you sick to your stomach at Richards' tackling attempt on that big gain at the end of the game:

That being said to redeem himself a bit from that mess look at his excellent positioning on the INT to deny Ben the quick pass Rogers which might have been a game winner. Instead he had to wait a beat which gave Rowe enough time to recover.

I think Ben also was waiting for Rogers to get into the endzone. Imagine the LOLs if Rogers got tackled before the goal line.

Which begs the question: Why on earth did Rogers take so long to get into the endzone on his route?

Regards,
Chris

Look at Thuney's pad level on #2. Lower than the clip in the earlier Tweet you posted. As a result, he's able to get better leverage on Heyward and negate the bull rush.

Agreed and #3 is prob his best rep.

Tech-wise hes usually very good. That will only take him so far if he is indeed around 290 tho.

That would make Cooks the 6th most successful WR in Pats history (yardage) and the 12th best season (yardage) overall in Pats WR history.

FYI All time Patriots yard for catch (players over 50 receptions) cooks would rank 7th.

FYI just to show how good Stanley Morgan was. He has almost 10x the catches Cooks does and his average is just over 2 yards per catch more over his career.

This play just drives me mental.

Gilmore is actually an insane athlete but at times his speed isn't utilized properly. Dude is a legit sub 4.4 guy and doesn't even bother trying to use the sideline here. Some subtle hand fighting would go a long way here

Steelers entire D was out to lunch here except Mitchell. Burns will get roasted here. You see what he's thinking. His eyes are locked on the potential reverse but that's not his responsibility here.

Don't get beat deep ... Gets beat deep.

Mason has done this all year, almost every week. Nice job by Thuney pulling & sealing off Dupree.

Worth another look. Check out how 12 moves the MOF with a quick look.

Communication issues still hurt us. This has to get straighten out.

Great play by Rowe. Bigger CB making this type of play on the GL. Harmon closing it out.
