No Gilmore, No Rowe at Practice (Weds) [wk 7 vs Atl injury reports & updates]

The same people that say we have no chance against the falcons are the same people in the game day threads that always say we have lost the game in the 1st quarter when a team scores a td on us. 14-0 down against the jets.. u guys should have seen what they were saying in there.
I wouldnt want to see it but sadly i could probably guess most of it almost word for word.

It's ironic that many have trashed Gilmore on here but now that he might not play sunday night he's needed? Sounds like the GDT All-Stars are out in full force this week...

What's ironic about it? It happens with every team:

Player A "sucks" (you choose the level of "suck", because it's irrelevant for the post, and I'm not being specific to Gilmore or any other player), but is better than player B

I really only miss Rowe seeing as he's a bit taller and did pretty well against Julio in the SB. Lotta those were freak catches. Gilmore can get healthy, not TOO stressed about that.

It's gonna be a tough battle but our offensive weapons can take us to the W. If we can get a run game going, especially with Gil, have time consuming drives and minimize Ryan's time out there? That'd be a perfect outing.

The defense will play with a chip - they know this is their ultimate opportunity to prove their legitimacy and will do everything to upset the haters. Obviously they ball just as hard every week, but you're naive if you think they're not going into this game with that on their minds. DMac was so damn hyped after that interception. Butler was so about that fumble. They're getting their heads on. Glad they won that Jets game to rebound their confidence just a hair more.

Falcons have shown just as much weakness as the Pats. It'll be a good game.

I think you will see a lot of Lewis this week over Gillislee. Atlantas D is built on speed and quickness, so Lewis is a better matchup.

Do you really think the New England Patriots operate in a way that they think they need to prove their legitimacy in a regular season game, because they want to upset the haters? And that will make them play better? Havent you been paying attention to how this team is run. Ignore the noise, do your job.

I am really looking forward to this game. Should be a good measuring stick for where we are at. Just hoping for a better first half than the last time we played them.

If Rowe or Gilmore are absent again today the secondary its likely they won't play.
This isn't 01, 03, or 04 when Belichick could send out less skilled guys like Randall gay, earthwind moreland and have them beat the schitt out of receivers 6, 7, 8 yards downfield...
There's a reason Gilmore and Rowe were starting and playing alot - because the coach thought they were the best corners on the team....
So before the fart rainbow crowd comes in W the "so u think they're DOOMED" stuff, NO, the secondary is considerably weaker w/o 2/3 of their top corners esp against a prolific qb and skilled receivers like Jones, Sanu (if he plays), and Gabriel....

If Allen hadn't been such a non-factor so far, I would have expected a lot of 2 tight-end formations with a bigger back. No need to play the Falcons' game when the Pats could just pound them...it would have been the best way to neutralize their speed. If the Falcons want to keep their faster, lighter defense on the field, then let have them tackle Gillislee, Gronk and Allen. If they substitute to get more bulk on defense, let them cover Gronk and Allen with slower LBs.

Plus, that game plan would have been very different than the Super Bowl, and thus an additional adjustment for the Falcons to process.

Now, with Allen having played so little lately, I'm not expecting that game plan to actually occur...

Being a bit smaller and faster doesn't mean you are frail. The problem when you try to attack speed with power is the speed can outrun the power.
Look at it this way. If you are running at a fast defense is it more important to get to and through the hole before it closes or to hope you run over the guywho closed it?

They also just signed Marvin Hall off their practice squad and he burned the Miami secondary for a TD.

Historically, Pats have always try to take away the opponent strength. The strength of the Falcons on defense is their speed. Trying to put Lewis and all our smurf receivers on the field plays exactly into the Falcons strength.

Lewis has certainly warranted more snaps based on the Jets game. He is the best RB in space, but that's not exactly a liability of the Falcons defense the Pats can exploit.

Nobody playing in the NFL is frail. But there's a reason Belichick always have had a big front 7. Having 230 pounds LBs running into 300 pounds guards for 4 quarters will take its toll. Plus, having the threat of a running game will mean that guys like Beasley cannot key on Brady all game...the Falcons mostly play zone coverage (except the Super Bowl) so with 2 tight ends and a bigger back, their LBs won't shoot the gaps at the snap, they'll have to wait to see if it's a running play.

THIS!! This is Allen's Breakout Week!!!

I didn't say play small I said use the RB who gets to the hole fast and is more elusive to counter their speed.

He is a better matchup here. Speed on defense closes holes faster.

I didn't say play a small ol.

I want Lewis running the ball. He will be more successful therefore a bigger threat. He also is a dual threat and gillislee is not.

Huh? I hope they want to blitz their linebackers every play. TB12 will hang 50 on them.

For a guy that says Sanu is a JAG, you obviously do not use the same logic for Lewis.
Lewis longest run, ever, was 31 yards. He never has rushed for more than 95 yards in a game.

If Lewis is the main back, all game, the Falcons will borrow a page from Belichick's Super Bowl 25 game plan : they won't bother to stop the run.

I disagree. I do indeed understand the policy of playing Lewis for lots and lots of reps, replying own him, and just HOPE that he is 100% healthy for the playoffs.

After all, we cannot control injuries. Doubling his reps and playing him on first down and on short yardage instead of Gillislie won't affect the probability of injury (major and minor).
========
Your position isn't particularly unreasonable. After, we certainly can rely on White in the playoffs instead of Lewis.

Luckily, Ryan isn't mobile which means less contain and more push upfield by the front. They'll need that from the defensive front if those two can't go again.

5-2 a lot better then 4-3 depending what happens in the rest of the games. Need to finish strong here before the bye. Just wanna see them play a lot better at home.

So they didn't practice on Thursday either? Oh boy. Looks like they won't play which means a big night for Matt Ryan. We have been the cure for most teams struggling.

I expect to see neither Rowe nor Gilmore on Sunday.

Bouye started as a STer

I liked what I saw from this kid last week. If he can do it again this week we might actually have another decent corner.
