Lazar is usually a thoughtful guy but he should have done more research before tweeting this.

We don’t know the context of each move. Does anyone know the contract status of Hardigree and Brillico prior to leaving for LV? If the Pats had let their contracts expire at the end of the season (which seems likely, given their lateral moves to the Raiders staff), it is not really “poaching” by Josh. Bill is probably proactive with the soon-to-expire contracts of the key members of his coaching staff and front office, just like he often is with the players whom he identifies as critical to keep (and who are willing to sign before they reach UFA).

In terms of Lombardi, it is very unlikely that he was being offered the OC job with the Pats, so I doubt that BB would have hard feelings about that promotion. BB and McDaniels seem to have a ton of mutual respect, so it seems likely that they would have had a discussion about coaches in whom Josh was interested, at least as a courtesy to Belichick.

Everyone is in such a rush to fabricate tension/controversy, often without any true supporting facts or inside information. This seems like another case of that phenomen.

I like the idea of grabbing young Weis and developing him.
A lot of time left the coaching staff doesn’t really need to be sorted out til draft and Free agency preparation.

Honestly the fact that Patricia is still here and potentially poised for a larger role concerns me more than the loss of a coach like Bricillo. If he did anything special with the OL last season, I didn’t see it.

Our running game was fantastic. We did something the NFL hadn't seen since the forward pass was invented, we ran the ball against a defense that knew what was coming and yet we did it so precisely we chewed off a ton of yardage.

Our OL played like a well-oiled machine. It was a sight to behold.

I watch the Bills and several other teams regularly, mainly the Bills and Bucs.

They have OLs that can't run block. They simply can't do what the Patriots do. I don't know if Bricillo was responsible for any of that. I only know that the Patriots run block in a way that the Bills and Bucs CAN'T

I'm confused about all this and really surprised people aren't making a much bigger deal out of all of this. All of the board should be on this thread.

We're really hurting for coaches and the lack of continuity is a problem.

But I'm also confused. Carmen Bricillo did not move on for a higher position. The Patriots did not need to let him go. Why did they let him move on? Money? What?

Bricillo is our last tie to the way Scarnecchia did things. Our running game last year was excellent, and you combine Bricillo's departure with the loss of Fears, and you have to wonder about what is going on back there. Will we go from strength to average? Will Mac Jones be badly impacted?

I see a serious problem here.

We may have encouraged Bricillo to leave. This year was his first as THE OL coach. I am not interested who believes good unit = good coaching, bad unit = bad coaching. It’s like any other business. You can have a lower level manager in charge of a great team and they succeed despite him, or you can have a bad team that is still bad even if well managed and playing above their talent.
So it’s ridiculously hard to judge position coaches as a fan.
JMD may have had a higher opinion of Bricillo than BB.
All speculation but wanting to uproot your family to move across the country and work for a guy who last less than 2 years as a HC the first time around instead of the GOAT is speculation too, and much less likely.

I'm not that concerned with having an OC.
Mac got a good foundation with McD last year and hes working out hard this offseason. He'll be much improved next season.
The offensive system will not change but I think it'll be a little more streamlined and tailored more to Mac's strengths.
But I AM worried about the D. The D was great until the end of the season when they fell apart. We've heard from several defensive leaders, stand-up guys like Phillips and DMac,that after the bye the team just didnt seem mentally prepared.
I think theyre hinting at the lack of a DC, having one strong voice to narrow the focus where it belongs, hurt them. I have no idea what BB will do but it sure seems a DC is needed.

Also, Bricillo's contract was up with the Patriots. It's not like he was still under contract. And with as inconsistent as the O-Line was this in 2021, I am not sure anyone is surprised the Pats hadn't extended his contract yet.

The defense was very good all year and just couldn’t match up with Buffalo. They need to fix that, not throw out the defense that allowed the 2nd fewest points and the second lowest % of drives scored upon.

I guess you think that there is no need for leadership and decision-making on the offense. Perhaps you think that Bill will develop the game plan and call the plays.

We need an OC, a quarterback coach, and someone calling the plays on Game Day. These are usually three different, qualified people. All three of these positions are open.

Sure, I expect Judge to help out on offense, but the special teams need him a lot more.

I don't think that we would add anyone to fill this role. The candidates are Patricia, Mayo and Belichick's son. The key is for someone to be in charge.

As an aside, we seem to have many, many developmental linebackers. SOMEONE needs to step us help develop one or two of Winovich, Uche, Phillips, Perkins and McGrone.

We just don't have enough with the veterans: Judon, Van Noy, Mcmillan, Tavai and Langi.

We can draft another couple, but I don't think that the issue is getting more potential contributors. Obviously, we can add a free agent or two, as we do every year.

Belichick was not calling the defense before the bye.

The players had no problem knowing who was in charge.
