That’s what I’ve been saying, after going 16-35 the last 3 years (16-36 when including today), MAYBE, just maybe, it’s the lack of talent (tons of draft mistakes). Spent the most in free agency, and the team still sucks.

The Oline gave up 4 sacks today, on pace for 68 sacks this year. You could say it really wasn’t urgently corrected in the offseason. Wide receiver and TEs, which player do opponents defensive coordinators have to worry about ? We have nobody that scares anyone, therefore Drake Maye still doesn’t have any elite weapons.

It’s like the Belichick days. You watch the draft and you just KNOW our pick was a mistake when guys drafted RIGHT after our pick are better, and the common draft fan knows it too. In the 4th round of 2025, I wanted the Pats to take a chance on a rare talent in WR Dont’e Thornton, we chose safety Craig Woodson over him. Thornton only had 2 catches for 45 yards, but that was 2 catches and 45 yards more than our 3rd round stud Kyle Williams.

Don’t get me started on the whole Polk vs McConkey debacle from last year.
Wait wait, we gave up 360 yards to Geno. Wait till Allen looks at the tape.....another year of suffering

Why I'm encouraged is because Drake knows this game was on him... defense played well.. anytime you hold a team to 20 points and 56 yards rushing you played enough to win.. this loss is solely on the offense.
They missed Gonzo badly. It was a winnable game. 1st game of the year. Lots of room for improvement. 16 more to go.

He's basically 1-10 in games he's thrown 10 or more passes and just put up 10 points against a bad Raiders defense.

You should worry, we're in the winning games business if this team wins 4/5 games Drake will have a W-L record that basically no QB who turns out to be good ever has 2 years in.
Really hope Maye doesn't turn into Mitchell Trubiski.

People are giving up on Maye and hoping we become the Jets drafting a new QB every 2 years

Deranged

did you forget Brady in 2002?
Payaton manning had more ints than tds his first few years. first year 26 td vs 28 ints. he had similar numbers three of his first five years. Posters need to give the kid some time.

Thankfully we're facing a horrible looking Dolphins team next week, but their WR's will be licking their chops after seeing this disaster.
We're banking on a very rare win in Miami to save a season in week 2.

My timeline is that he's a 22 years old, going into year 2, with it being his first year with a new OC who runs a much tougher scheme to absorb mentally than the one he had last year. So there will be growing pains.

I'd be lying if I said he met my expectations today, but it'll improve. Need to have some patience.
There was about 2-3 drives he looked how I wanted him to look. The rest was not good. I guess It’s better he’s at least showing it in glimpses than not showing it at all.

But hey we always hit our stride in November!

People keep looking for a single scapegoat. It's Mac, it's Mayo, it's Maye. Even in 2019 people pinned it on Brady. The team is just talent deficient.
Yep, and arguably the most talented player on the team is cheering from the sideline.

That's just not true though is it, Peyton Manning was 13-3 in is second year which is the exact point how good QBs who struggle in year 1 improve quickly in their second year.

They don't have back to back stinkers.

I don’t have a lot of good things to say. Boutte, Diggs, and Landry were all pretty good. Most everything else sucked.
I'm not as down on the team as you. Aside from the good players you mentioned, I'd add:

Milton Williams had 5 hurries and 1 hit.

In fact I thought the DL as a whole did well outside of that first drive.

Will Campbell, aside from that one drive, had a pretty good game so I'm hopeful there.

I thought the safeties did pretty well aside from that Hawkins foul up on the first TD.

Carlton Davies had a good game apart from that one pass.

So not perfect but there were positive elements. However, McDaniels needs to be less conservative and Maye needs to be better. We aren't going to be a good team this year, we just don't have the star power outside of Gonzo and perhaps Williams but we might have a better team than last year if Maye and McDaniels sort things out.

I admit I fell into a trap of "homerism"
Our homegrown & vet FA's are not as good as we thought they'd be.

OVERRATED:
Pop (we think he's better than he is - very inconsistent and can't make big plays in clutch)
Hollins (did nothing)
Rham (Hasn't done anything in 3 years)
Spillane, Chaisson, White (great on paper, bad in affecting the game)
Maye missed him on the First series Wide open.

Wtf. Crap. Sucky D, no O. Vrable(sic) is unable. NE Dearthoftalent. It’s BBs fault. McDs is hiring. If you ain’t first, you’re last. Same old Jets Pats. The sun will come out tomorrow. Elizabeth, I’m coming to join you. Chism or bust. Check everyone’s practice squad. Let’s ****in’ go!!! 16 more games to suffer no fools.

Campbell wasn’t wonderful today either. I guess that should not be surprising but a game like that won’t quiet the critics.
He had two bad plays on one drive. I'm not excusing him, but I thought he did well otherwise. Morgan Moses gave up 6 pressures.

He had three stinkers in his first five years. the other years he had a similar amount of tds 25 or 26 and had 15 ints . thats about what mayes stats were last year

'Thats just not true even though it is'...wtf does that mean

Hawkins was bad. Whenever there was a big play Hawkins was usually right there. The pick was on Carlton Davis who undercut the route and made the ball bounce into Hawkins hands.

It's corpse Moses hated the signing.
