Chad Henne, 41 (7/2/85)
Henne was the career passing leader at Michigan, but went 18-36 as an NFL starter for Miami, Jacksonville and KC - and despite more career picks (63) than touchdown passes (60) has had a 15-year career as a pro football quarterback. The Patriots faced Henne as a starting QB six times from 2009 to 2012, winning five times with Henne passing for 8 TD vs 11 picks.


Joe Pisarcik, 74 (7/2/52)
NYG QB will forever be known for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with the infamous fumble returned for a touchdown by Herm Edwards at the Miracle at the Meadowlands.

National League baseball batting champion Ed Delahanty disappears after being removed intoxicated from a train by force; his body was found dead at bottom of Niagara Falls two weeks later. The Hall of Fame left fielder was 35.




July 2, 1911:
Detroit Tigers legend Ty Cobb hits in his 40th straight game in 14-6 rout of Cleveland. The batting streak ends his next game.




July 2, 1921:
In boxing's first million dollar gate ($1.7m), world heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey KOs Frenchman Georges Carpentier in round 4 of his third title defense, in front of a crowd 91,000 at Boyle's Thirty Acres, Jersey City.





July 2, 1937:
Stock car driver (as it was known back in the day) Richard Petty is born in North Carolina. Petty would win seven NASCAR championships and seven Daytona 500's.




July 2, 1941:
Joe DiMaggio hit a 3-run home run against the Boston Red Sox to extend his legendary hitting streak to 45 games, shattering Willie Keeler's previous record.




July 2, 1964:
Baseball outfielder/designated hitter José Canseco is born in Havana. From 1992 to 2001 Canseco played for Oakland, Texas, Boston, Toronto and Tampa Bay, hitting 462 PED-enhanced home runs.





July 2, 1979:
Joe Thornton is born in London, Ontario. The first overall pick by Boston in the 1997 draft scored 169 goals and 454 points in eight seasons for the Bruins, before GM Mike O'Connell blundered with one of the worst trades in NHL history, sending him to San Jose. The Hall of Fame center ended up playing for 24 seasons, scoring 430 goals and 1,539 points.




July 2, 1986:
Boston Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemens (14-0) suffers his 1st loss (4-2 v Toronto), one win short of AL record for consecutive wins to start a season.
