Maye had plenty of struggles and stupid plays/decisions...
but once again, the play calling didn't help him at all. JMD acted like it was 2010's, where our D would keep every team at bay and we can slow-roll it on offense and wait for the end where the GOAT can make perfect plays every down. I HATE waiting until 3min in the game, down by 10, to try to win.
They need to hit the ground running, and keep the foot on the pedal.

So many wide open Te's for the Raiders. Decent run stopping. We gave up alot of 3rd and longs. Zero pass rush when we needed it. Geno had 6 plus seconds to throw.

Vrable(sic) is unable.

Gonna have to make that a T-shirt if we have a losing ie 2 win team. Which I don’t think will happen…. How’s Ben Johnson doing anyways? Not calling for vrabes head, honest question…

Hawkins was bad. Whenever there was a big play Hawkins was usually right there. The pick was on Carlton Davis who undercut the route and made the ball bounce into Hawkins hands.
He was also in on two sacks. In fact, I'd say that on two occasions, Landry's sacks/half sacks came because of Hawkins' blitzing. Landry also had that clean sack on a stunt.

One position group that I do think deserves some criticism were the linebackers.

Our linebackers were AWFUL in coverage.

Pop wasn’t good today.

Maye was the biggest reason we lost this game. Completely killed our momentum. Take a 17-7 lead and this game was over. Maye isn’t a winner. He shrinks when the moment gets bigger. He is at his worst when it counts
Agree its a big concern going back to last year that his performance gets worse in the moments with the most pressure
That is not a sign of a mentally tough qb

I expected more but I also expect them to gel as we proceed. Some of the overreactions on here are pretty wild, as predicted.

Geno Smith won 10 games last season and Pete is as experienced as they come. We were down our top corner against 3 good skill position players.

If we didn't shank the FG, as poorly as the O played, they could have been in position to force overtime.

Maye hasn't even started 17 career games yet... so he's more or less still a rookie, especially when he's younger than Cam Ward. Give it time people.

He had three stinkers in his first five years.
'Thats just not true even though it is'...wtf does that mean
It means you're inventing stats to make a comparison that doesn't mean anything, Peyton Manning had one bad year outside of his rookie season which was his 4th season but he was also a top 5 QB in the league basically every other year in his career.

You can make this argument for every QB who has come into the league and lost a bunch of games that Peyton was bad as a rookie but he was also was 23-9 as a starter in years 2/3 between his bad rookie year and his bad 4th year so they already knew they had a guy who can win games.

Drake has currently won 1 game and has no credit in the bank.

Offensively - obviously maye must make more plays. The offensive line is still terrible, but maye played very poorly. Stevenson has all the burst of a fire hydrant. Until maye steps up, we are a weak offensive team. Maye lost this game for us.

Defensively - the corners and safeties are playing in a tough scheme and coverage is soft!! Just imagine how badly a real qb is going to pick apart this poorly designed defensive scheme. But blaming the players for trying to execute a poorly designed defensive scheme is not fair either. Yes Davis did get beat poorly a few times, but the biggest problem is the scheme is flawed!

They missed Gonzo badly. It was a winnable game. 1st game of the year. Lots of room for improvement. 16 more to go.
It was a winnable game if Maye didn’t throw it away.

It’s pretty clear that he doesn’t have the killer instinct.
Yup after watching the GOAT for 25 years, 20 with the Pats, we saw that killer instinct. Sad to say, it’s rare to find that kind of QB. Maye almost seems too nice and easy going.

I’ll add that Maye also has a slow release. In the McDaniels offense, you have to get that ball out fast. That’s why Brady & even Jimmy G succeeded in this offense, quick releases. You are basically a point guard getting it to your playmakers. Maye seems too slow for this offense. The only guys he seems to really connect with are Henry and Boutte.

Not giving up on the kid, hopefully he starts to get it and that leads to winning. But he doesn’t have that urgent, angry personality that the winners seem to have. I remember that look in Brady’s eyes if he was losing or tied, those eyes basically saying, I’m gonna step on your neck and end you. I loved that.

The defense played well enough to win the game against the Raiders. The offense was the greatest concern. Penalties killed drives and were the result of too much messing around at the line of scrimmage. Josh should have called (or Drake should executed more) quick hitter plays like the final minute of the game when Drake Maye picked up a bunch of yards passing.

The running game got stymied by the Raiders and is a credit to their defense. A closer look at why they ran short yardage plays behind the rookie linemen is needed. The backs never had the kind of holes they need to really excel. Maybe that gets better over time.

I’m not lining up with most of you at the Tobin Bridge over one game
I will give this some time for which it needs
I get it. For most of the game they SUCKED today
I truthfully trust Vrabel will distill the leadership needed to turn this thing around
Give it some time

They need to spend all week repping Drake with 3 and 5 step drops where he hits the back foot and fires.
He only had about 5 passes that were on time and finding guys in space.

Diggs started looking good as the game went on. Boutte is solid and consistent.
They might think about re-signing Bourne, because he'd do a lot more than Hollins.
And get Chism in there to compete with Pop.

I think you have him mixed up with Woodson on one of them. But if he’s getting burned in coverage all day (the 1st TD was pathetic) I don’t think a safety makes up for that by blitzing.

Big Mistake not playing Maye more in preseason. Treating him like a seasoned vet vs a 2nd yr rook adjusting to McD's new system.
Stevenson is done. Play the other backs.
Our DBs played like BC's DBs last night. Total lack of situational and ball awareness.
Giving our rook LT a mulligan. No more to be given.
Rook Kickah gets a mulligan too.
What happened to our all star defensive 4? Played WAY below expectations.
Still no cover LBs on this squad.
Pop Douglas is gonna be Wally Pip very soon. Chism era will dawn.
We have 2 wideouts. Diggs & Bout.e Jury out on the rook.

I'm hoping those who have been quick to badmouth a certain someone and suggest the Patriots fortunes would've been gone radically differently had he been relieved of his duties sooner, realize how difficult it is to win games in the NFL and consistently coach/manage a contending team.

Plugging in a new coach/GM isn't that simple. Feels apt to mention in light of this week 1 game and the narrative that his presence was holding the team back from success. This **** is HARD.
This **** is hard when the previous administrations did such a crappy job of bringing in talent over a number of years.

Didn't Biscuit finish his one win game??
