I went 24 17... I was quite disappointed that the offense had 1 more point than three field goals.

I thought the pats would be good for at least 2 tds... which would force the raiders into 3 td territory

Im pretty disappointed in the pats offense today.
We where in Laa laa land playing against the 2's the whole time. So disappointing to see Vrabel free agents suck!

I'm hoping those who have been quick to badmouth a certain someone and suggest the Patriots fortunes would've been gone radically differently had he been relieved of his duties sooner, realize how difficult it is to win games in the NFL and consistently coach/manage a contending team.

Plugging in a new coach/GM isn't that simple. Feels apt to mention in light of this week 1 game and the narrative that his presence was holding the team back from success. This **** is HARD.

The fact that it's hard doesn't justify trotting out Matt Patricia, Joe Judge and your sons as your coaching staff.

I think it's indisputable that if you are doing that then you are holding back your team from success.

Bill lost his fastball, plain and simple. We can quibble about when, but certainly by 2022 he had.

I hate to say it, but based on the on-field plays of Maye's career so far, there is nothing to suggest he has the mental killer instinct to really run a NFL level offense. All it's ever been with him was "dual threat, very talented, good arm".

But, that's the bio for half the QB's coming in, and most flame out.

I guess I'm just not sure Maye will be the future. In fact, I think DeVito would have played better in this game today.
Not saying Maye can't figure it out, but he was timid and slow in recognizing - and mostly - inaccurate and not clutch.
You make some good points... I'll say this if if gets to October and Drake is still doing things like this.. it will allow for some interesting conversation with Vrabel and McDaniels.

Spillane was pretty much invisible also. He’s supposed to be our defensive leader.

did you forget Brady in 2002?
Brady led the league in TD in 2002. Doubtful Maye will.
That's a very odd comparison. Brady was coming off a Super Bowl win in his first year playing, led the league in TD passes. In fact, the team would've been under .500 had it not for him in games against KC, Chicago and the last game against Miami to end the season. Their defense was awful in 2002.

Maye on the other hand, folds like a lawn chair when things go off script. Mac Jones had the same problem.

People keep looking for a single scapegoat. It's Mac, it's Mayo, it's Maye. Even in 2019 people pinned it on Brady. The team is just talent deficient.
That’s what I’ve been saying, after going 16-35 the last 3 years (16-36 when including today), MAYBE, just maybe, it’s the lack of talent (tons of draft mistakes). Spent the most in free agency, and the team still sucks.

The Oline gave up 4 sacks today, on pace for 68 sacks this year. You could say it really wasn’t urgently corrected in the offseason. Wide receiver and TEs, which player do opponents defensive coordinators have to worry about ? We have nobody that scares anyone, therefore Drake Maye still doesn’t have any elite weapons.

It’s like the Belichick days. You watch the draft and you just KNOW our pick was a mistake when guys drafted RIGHT after our pick are better, and the common draft fan knows it too. In the 4th round of 2025, I wanted the Pats to take a chance on a rare talent in WR Dont’e Thornton, we chose safety Craig Woodson over him. Thornton only had 2 catches for 45 yards, but that was 2 catches and 45 yards more than our 3rd round stud Kyle Williams.

Don’t get me started on the whole Polk vs McConkey debacle from last year.

There was one play where he had the gap where Jeanty went and inexplicably he chose to go inside right in the raiders OL

The cult really can’t stop thinking about their boi can they lmao

Maye’s presser — blames the accuracy problem on the first drive on his getting adjusted to the weather. No deep shots because they were playing safeties deep. Felt he understood Josh’s offense and had no problems seeing the field. Said he just needs to execute better.

To me, I saw some notable positives out of Maye's play. He was making smarter decisions. The results weren't the best (obviously), but he's taking the smarter decision to preserve himself and prevent stupid turnovers. But that's what I'm watching for. That's what year 2 is often about for young quarterbacks.

sad but true. Maye isn't the answer imo.

Maye barely played in the preseason and it showed today. Hopeful for improvement next week

Vrabel postgame: too many missed opportunities, too many penalties. We’ll see where we were at and what guys want to work and stick together. Thought the decision to punt at the end was best but it didn’t work.

Sound like Mac Jones. Just to execute better every week

It’s pretty clear that he doesn’t have the killer instinct.

Agreed and yes they look like a carbon copy of last year….. tackling issues, sloppy secondary, a little better pressure on QB but not much…..and offense about where we left off last year…hopefully they right the ship if not it will be a long season!
Defense held the raiders to under 60 yards rushing.. most of Genos big throws were off of when we blitz, they have some great skill guys on offense.. we had pressure on geno enough and should have have won.. had Gonzo played would had made a huge difference in coverage break downs.. this game is on us offensively raiders did nothing special on defense..

I admit I fell into a trap of "homerism"
Our homegrown & vet FA's are not as good as we thought they'd be.

OVERRATED:
Pop (we think he's better than he is - very inconsistent and can't make big plays in clutch)
Hollins (did nothing)
Rham (Hasn't done anything in 3 years)
Spillane, Chaisson, White (great on paper, bad in affecting the game)

Disappointing performance but figured theyd be prone to a slow start this year. Hopefully miami is truly worse than us

Biggest concern is maye right now. Looked bad in preseason and really bad today. Hopefully just a matter of settling in to a new offense but until that happens this is a worry. I can live with the team having a rough first year but you wanna see maye show something.

Couldn’t run nearly as well as i thought they could

Terrible decision to punt with 5 mins left.
Why I'm encouraged is because Drake knows this game was on him... defense played well.. anytime you hold a team to 20 points and 56 yards rushing you played enough to win.. this loss is solely on the offense.
