DRAFT NFL Draft Rumors

I can’t imagine 8 being high enough.
Carolina could land Gilmore and a very good receiver or Gilmore and a very good db and have a heck of a tandem.

If that’s the case, and they do trade him, they should have dealt him before the trade deadline last year. Might have resulted in a couple of more losses while experimenting with Jackson in the CB1 role, and improved draft position in each round. But whatever. I’d rather not part with Gilmore but if it can help get us our QB, then I’m fine with it.
I don’t think any team would take Gilmore instead of this years 2 or next years 1, so by extension we would be giving him up for peanuts.

Giving up Gilmore and the 15 pick would leave a glaring hole at the corner position. Jackson isn’t a true 1.
In fairness this doesn’t say Gilmore is part of the discussion just speculates.

Imagine we trade and Miami trades down yet again with Denver so Denver gets the QB and Miami still gets the guy the targeted.
Would be insane but it scares me.

If we trade, it's likely only happening once Carolina is on the clock. I don't see BB trading major assets to move up in the hopes that the guy he likes will still be there. He'd pull the trigger (in this hypothetical) once the 7 pick is in and his guy is still on the board.

Giving up Gilmore to get up to 8 for our new QB is an absolute slam dunk win for the Pats. Yes he's been a great player but he's also 31 and in the last year of his deal. This is probably his last year in NE. It does leave us light at CB, but there is plenty of depth in this draft at corner. You could draft Stokes or Samuel in the 2nd round, or Adebo or Campbell in the 3rd and re-sign J-Mac. It's an easy trade to make to get a franchise QB.

Process of elimination.
49ers - Mac Jones or Trey Lance
Falcons- Matt Ryan so they don’t need a QB
Bengals- Joe Burrow

Dolphins- Tua which takes them out of needing to take a QB

Lions Goff so that leaves the only teams that might interested in getting fields down to the panthers, Patriots or Denver. It makes sense why the Patriots are talking to the panthers about acquiring their pick

Gilmore is cheap this year, and as long as healthy, still a very very good defensive player, but signed only for 1 year.

Right so I think he has more value to keep than to trade.
If it was 15 and 46 being asked for to move up I don’t think a counter of 15 and Gilmore would get it done so his trade value is less than a second which tells me keep him.

Detroit is the wild card. They could cut Goff tomorrow at no cost.
I don’t think Carolina is going qb or the whole Darnold trade makes no sense.

I would rather trade With the dolphins, but being a division rival and the dolphins asking for too much might prevent at trade from happening

Gilmore & 15 for 8, not sure how I feel about that. Maybe Gilmore and 15 for 8 and a 2nd round pick.

Maybe this year’s 2. A good amount of teams can use a lockdown corner and have the cap room to fit him in. Next year’s 1? Nope. And this year’s 2 would not help us move into the top 10 (7 being the most likely landing spot for a trade up) by itself.

Detroit most likely. They are looking for a LB in the baddest possible way and there is no value there for a LB at 7. By dropping back to 15, they could potentially Parsons or JOK.

Carolina needs a LT so I don't think they'd be interested in jumping back to 15. They are most likely going with Sewell/Slater. Denver is the team the Pats are competing with for Fields/Lance. If Patricia were still in Detroit, I would say it's probably a done deal that the Pats move up.

We will likely need to give Gilmore a raise/extension to have him stick around. Trading him opens up even more cap $$ and we could easily spend that money on Sherman on a short deal. I think Sherman would play on a contract with 7M AAV.....which is what we are paying Gilmore this year anyway.

Also, with Gilmore off the books, a QB on a rookie deal, and Hightower likely retiring/leaving in FA next year...we could still be active in FA again in 2022 and plug holes.
