I'm not an expert, but on the last O play, pass to JE11, the O-line got blown up, TB went with his trusted receiver. JE could've gone after that pass to make the catch instead of waiting for it to hit his body.

How do you know Edelman was the hot read? It's also common knowledge that QBs also throw to the receiver who's route goes to where the bltiz is coming from. From this overhead angle you can see the middle empty out because they're blitzing from that area and that's where Myers' route takes him.

The blitz came from all angles since that was basically a casino blitz. They didn’t try to disguise what they were doing either and tipped their hand before the play. The other two receivers are running in-breaking routes and clear out that space for Edelman, who is running a quick out. The quick out is a man beater. That, by design, left Edelman singled up with Breeland, who has been one of the worst corners in the NFL this season. Now that I’ve explained all of that, trust me. Edelman was the hot receiver. The Patriots scored on a very similar play at the end of Super Bowl 49. It might be the exact same play, but so haven’t had time to compare them so I can’t say that for certain. Either way, that was the design of the play. The defense, as well as the play of the OL, dictated that they only had time for one read and throw. That read was going to be the hot route and Edelman was designed to get open. Brady acted within the confines of the play call and quarterbacks, unless they’re playing sandlot football after the play breaks down, are always going to do that. Expecting him to move to Meyers, who was not the hot receiver by design since there was other traffic in the area, is ridiculous. That would have resulted in a sack. Plenty you can criticize Brady for in this game without reaching on this one. Breeland made a nice play. **** happens sometimes.

The Patriots scored on a very similar play at the end of Super Bowl 49. It might be the exact same play, but so haven’t had time to compare them so I can’t say that for certain.

It is not even close to being the same play. Edelman was alone in man coverage to the left side of the formation in the SB. There were no other players close to him running any clear out routes. You must be thinking of a different play.

And Edelman sets a natural pick for Meyer's DB which frees him up. Brady knows the route combination here and what to look for. He knows if the DB defends with too much depth that Edelman will run his quick out creating space for Meyers in the MOF. This is not sandlot football those routes are carefully designed.



He sees it, knows Meyers will be free in the MOF just based on how deep the DB is playing but still goes directly to Edelman even though the throw to him is much more difficult especially under pressure. Meyers would have been a simple check down that doesn't require much touch or accuracy.

We are not talking two absolute different reads on the field here, the mesh point between their routes is in the same area. There is no way Brady doesn't realise the positioning Meyers has on the DB even as he is looking towards Edelman.

Lets call it what it is. He deliberately chose to stick with the more difficult throw because he trusted Edelman more than Meyers to make a play.

The entire idea of a hot route is to escape a sack. Going with the one that requires more accuracy and takes a beat longer to develop instead of throwing the check down is the antithesis of that.

The hot read is in the design of the offensive play call. Unless you think Brady is intentionally going away from that read, which you’ll need to back up with some evidence, it should be VERY COMMON knowledge that, against that kind of blitz, the read the quarterback makes is the hot read. One read and go. He’s not making another read when they’re bringing that many extra rushers or he’s getting sacked. Brady did what the defense and the play call dictated. It’s honestly staggering that you 1) were not aware of what a hot read is even though you’re already walking this back to make appear as if you were, and 2) still don’t seem to grasp it.

There are multiple throws you could criticize Brady for on Sunday. That you picked this one is hilarious. Definitely comes across as if you have an axe to grind. Either that, or it’s pure ignorance. Not sure. But if you don’t even know what a hot route is and when it’s used, you should not be participating in this thread. Either that or don’t leave any of your own comments. Just go back to copying and pasting Chatham and Lazar.

-the play has a hot read
-the hot read is covered

its called hot READ for a reason, it's not an automatic throw, its a READ, its the FIRST place the QB should look, but not the LAST place if it is covered and the QB has time

to try and argue that no matter how covered or uncovered your hot read WR is, the QB MUST ALWAYS THROW TO THE HOT READ REGARDLESS OF HOW OPEN IT IS, is utter folly and sounds completely childish

your argument SHOULD be that Brady had edelman as his hot read, and didn't have enough time to continue his progression due to pressure so he let it go, that is something no one here would argue against, but to suggest what you're suggesting is a waste of everyones time

Again i don't know how you can say for sure that you know. Nothing against your football knowledge but unless confirmed i can't simply believe Edelman was the hot receiver just because you say so. I think Brady knew the blitz was coming and he simply trusted Edelman to make the play.

What's interesting is they break down a play from the Patriots on how they beat a blitz. Similar route running concept as the play in question, where you have a guy go deeper clearing out for the underneath receiver.



The play this Sunday happened just like that breakdown. Edelman cleared it out for Myers who was wide open.
