Wtf happened with Brissett deal?

To be more clear, I would rather have Hoyer and Dorsett than have Brissett.

Brissett is not good. People want to believe he is but he is not.

Last year during preseason, Brissett wasn't poor by any means. In the game he had significant snaps in, Brissett was 28/39 for 341 and 4 TDs 1 INT. Preseason is a layman's way to analyze a QBs development.

I liked Brissett, and I thought it was dumb of the Pats to NOT trade Garrapollo In the off season, they would have had Brissett, as a very good back up and #1 pick.

Instead they kept Jimmy, so Brissett was actually on the bubble to get cut, so getting Dorset for him was a decent deal. You have to remember when the Pats traded him, he had 2 NFL starts, he has 18 now.

Yeah, yeah we all talk about the Garoppolo deal, but how did we lose so poorly on the Brissett deal? Based on reports of the Seahawks offering a 2nd rder for the kid, and the Colts turning it down, makes me think that trading Brissett for Phillip freaking Dorsett is one of the worst trades that we have ever done.

Brissett was so bad during last years camp that he was on his way to be cut. Curran or Perry mentioned this nugget this offseason in one of the QB centric QuickSlants episode leading up to the draft. So back then he was certainly neither worth a second round pick nor would he have been able to be a better backup than Hoyer. Hoyer can function in this offense. He would not be amazing or consistent but at least capable of making most of the throws. In contrast according to some reports Brissett was not able to run some practice drills consistently back then.

That is all that is relevant to judge last years trade. How the Colts used Lucks absence to develop him and how he might be a better fit in their offense has nothing to do with his value at the point when we parted ways because he would have never gotten that development here in the same way.

If you think this is all ******** then please tell me how he would have gotten here even 10% of the practice snaps and 1% of the game snaps that he got over there. If you don't think that this is relevant then I don't know what to tell you.

Finally dont believe everything you see in terms of NFL rumors.

How this trade grades out largely depends on whether Dorsett becomes a legit NFL caliber WR this season or not.

They have arguably the worst OL in football. Not far fetched to think Wilson can't do everything by himself anymore, esp as he gets older, takes more punishment etc.

Bob Kraft didn't trade JG, BB did and he did simply because he wanted to get SOME value for an asset rather than the nothing he would have gotten if he had waited until the end of the season.

In reality the ONLY question fans should have about the JG trade is if BB should have traded him before the draft, rather than in mid season. JG's value was much higher at that point. I know I was bitterly disappointed when the draft ended and JG was still with the team.

58.8 pct 52 sacks 8 fumbles. He did a good job surviving, but we should be able to pick up as good or better a backup at cut downs. Since we were going to cut him sometime anyway, getting a fast receiver with a first down grade was a pretty good return.

He wasn't good for us. He played one game in which they gave him a college offense to run against a checked out Texas team, and then in the next he was completely overmatched against Ryan's Bills.

The thing everyone is ignoring here is that BB held on to JG as long as he reasonably could because around draft time nobody was able to project what Brady would look like in Fall. If you are convinced that JG is for real you hold on until the very last reasonable moment just in case something comes up.

One bad step from a lineman or bad angle by a pass rusher can end the season for a QB. The trade deadline was the final reasonable point in time to get any value back.

Now whether he pushed SF enough to squeeze out more than the second is a different story that will most probably stay forever untold. Personally I would have tried to add some success based picks in the two following drafts into the trade (eg. if JG plays all game in 18, SF reaches playoffs or **** like that). But then again I am just a fan so wtf do I know.

But saying we didnt get any value by keeping JG until the trade deadline is like whining about health insurance after being healthy for years.

I’m not arguing we traded jimmy g at the wrong time. I’m arguing we could have pushed SF harder for more compensation or another team for a first rounder plus an additional pick based on incentives
