I think we saw the difference between Gilmore and Butler in this game as corners. Butler can have a big game from time to time but he's not worth more than gilmore.

I am. The playbook he learned last year isn't this years playbook. He needs to learn the new plays. I am sure they kept some plays from last year which is why he was able to play today but he doesn't know the full play book yet.

Luckily he understands how the concept and reads work so much of the work is done already. He still needs to learn the new plays though.
Pretty sure there ain't that much different. I had copies of a couple of playbooks from back in 02 and 04 and there wasn't much changed between them. Little things here and there and a few plays added, but nothing that a vet who was with the team all last year would have any trouble picking up on the fly.

Our offensive execution vs Denver as opposed to last year was like night and day. Sure we had Gronk, but lost Edelman.

Brady would say Montana.
Well, it’s gotta be Montana, although since Ware commented I could see him going with Manning, somehow.

Either way, they’re wrong. Going to the SB 4x does not beat going to the SB 7x, and that’s not even bringing any other stats, streaks, or other factors like the era of free agency into account. I was just surprised at how flippant they were about the statement.

Feb 5, 2017 ended all debates anybody who doesn't say Brady just loses credibility now.

The playbook really has not changed that much for a long time.

There is game specific stuff obviously but the bread and butter has been more or less exactly the same for many years. There really is not much reason to change things because the NFL in its current state is mostly about identifying what the other team tries to do pre-snap, via motion or post snap and it is not like any team is consistently innovating on defense to the point where you need to come up with new ways to attack them.

If your playbook is big enough to give your players the tools for most situations then there is no point changing it really. Especially with the way the Pats have perfected Erhardt Perkins.

Any idea as to how many pages, complexity, etc? Was it a former player? Does each page have a stamp, watermark, or other security feature in case they leave them behind or fall into the wrong hands?

Fun fact / trivia / Pats History factoid:

Last time the Patriots won back-to-back games at Denver was in 1965-66.

For those not yet born at that time, consider this of the Broncos of that era:
From 1963-1971 the Broncs finished in 4th place in a 4-team division seven times, and 4th in a 5-team division the two other times.

A whole crowd of people getting bashed in the head with a hunk of metal. Someone passes out and the bucket of water they use to splash in their face has a chunk of concrete in it that cracks them in the skull.
I don't know how they could pull that off as comedy but they did and it worked....:)

Sanders would have destroyed Gilmore, so what's your point?

I don't agree with the premise of 'this is why we pay Gilmore more', however, you're wildly guessing at a Gilmore v Sanders result. Statistically speaking DT is the best WR the Broncos have. For 2017 receptions per game, YPC, yards from scrimmage per game, catch% all say DT is the Broncos 2017 #1 WR. Gilmore was in fact assigned the #1 WR, DT, and the performance was satisfactory. Therefore why you would state as an absolute that Gilmore would be "destroyed" ("destroyed"???) by the #2 WR is puzzling.

That’s nothing. I watched NFLN the other night and DeMarcus Ware and James Jones discussed how Brady was “the 2nd best QB to ever play the game.”

They never said who they thought was first.

When was this? On players only? Did you hear those words come out of Ware, or James Jones? Because I watched that show a few times, and Ware reveres Brady. Ware has said Brady is the GOAT. Ware's most memorable 2 minute drive was Brady's last drive in the 2015 AFC Champ Game, where he talked about how they kept hitting Brady over and over and over, and Brady just kept on coming. In awe of 4th and 10 conversion to Gronk. Even acknowledged how Gronk was open on the 2 point conversion and glad Brady didn't see him.

James Jones however, former Packers receiver, of course said Aaron Rodgers is the GOAT. Heath Evans, D-ware, and I think Maurice Jones Drew? called him a homer.

Actually, it was Ware who said it, and Jones just agreed. I was surprised.

I remember because my wife said “well, he was a Bronco, so of course that’s what he’s going to say. He probably thinks it’s Peyton.”

That is weird, because I remember him saying that Brady was the GOAT. D-ware a flip flopper then?

He’s something, that’s for sure. I even paused and rewound the DVR to look for any signs of joking. They both seemed to be very serious. It was meant as a compliment to Brady’s QB skills, but was preceded with the idea that “he’s no slouch, he’s clearly the 2nd best QB to ever play the game.” (Paraphrasing)

Gilmore is better against the taller players, which is why he's on Thomas.
Sanders is a jitterbug.

We've all seen that movie before.

Is it possible that Gilmore will be able to make a cheap hit on Sanders and make him "off" for the rest of the way, as he did in 2014? Sure. Is it far more likely that Sanders would have happily made Gilmore his *****? Absolutely.
