It's easy, and only takes a few moments.La Canfora reporting the contract is really done and just waiting to announce it. Saying there really isn’t a palace coup against RG, but people wanting to see changes in the commissioner’s office. I’m not sure axing Pash is going to solve the NFL’s problems.
2017: Goodell must go because he ruled against MY player and now it looks like he's screwed our cash cow
You need 3/4ths to fire him, but I also think you need 3/4ths to agree to extend him. So while 9 owners couldn't oust him, they could refuse to renew. If there are actually 17 owners who want to see him out, he is a dead man walking.
Disagree. If there are actually 17 owners who want to see him out, he is a dead man walking.
I agree. Technically it takes 24 to fire, but 17 opposed means his authority is gone - cannot effectively lead. His position is untenable - really even if 10-12 were opposed.Disagree.
It wouldn't take a technical "majority" to make Goodell's position untenable. Once elected, the Commissioner's authority is almost entirely "referential." Goodell couldn't effectively lead the league with even a handful of prominent owners insisting that he be removed. If Jones, Kraft, Laurie, Mara/Tisch and Art Rooney all want him gone, he's gone. It would just be a matter of weeks before the small market owners would fall in line.
But, that's exactly where we disagree. His position is untenable if even just those five are opposed to him.I agree. Technically it takes 24 to fire, but 17 opposed means his authority is gone - cannot effectively lead. His position is untenable - really even if 10-12 were opposed.
Actually apparently they do not need to vote on the contract - the committee was given that authority already. But 17 opposed would mean he could not lead - he would have to go sometime soon. You need 3/4ths to fire him, but I also think you need 3/4ths to agree to extend him. So while 9 owners couldn't oust him, they could refuse to renew.
You are probably right. Goodell’s problem is no one will “die” for him - no one loves him. There is not a group of younger owners looking to wrest control from the blue bloods - at least yet. But, that's exactly where we disagree. His position is untenable if even just those five are opposed to him.
What do you mean "go away"? I hope you don't expect him to quit earning a $40 million annual salary because some of the owners oppose him.Actually apparently they do not need to vote on the contract - the committee was given that authority already. If he could not lead, eventually there would be 24 to fire. What do you mean "go away"? I hope you don't expect him to quit earning a $40 million annual salary because some of the owners oppose him.
There would be an impasse. They can't fire him, he won't quit, but he has no real power. I think I'd enjoy watching that ****storm, but it won't happen.
I bet Mort proof-read it while he was killing time on the hopper
I suppose it’s just coincidence that this is now happening while the ratings are steadily declining and the NFL is losing money hand-over-fist.
