I'll say it again: the refs don't have the same angles and zoom of a television camera or the benefit of slow motion. Why the heck wouldn't you just tackle him by his body or legs? The game was over. The player gave the refs the opportunity to make a judgement call. That's what happens when you swipe at a quarterback's head, whether you miss, graze, or yank. Very, very basic tackling stuff that everyone knows at that level.
Agreed. Regardless of the call being bad or not, the Lions just played stupid and shot themselves in the foot. The Pukers were heaving the ball around backward with no time on the clock for crap sakes! Rodgers had no one else around him to toss the ball to! The Lions player could've just stood there and the game would've been over. Instead he had to take a swipe at Rodgers and look what happened. THEN they can't even play basic hail Mary defense 101. Just dopey football by Detroit.

He actually said he overinflates the ball and tries to get it past the refs and that was part of kessler's argument for brady that other QBs also do it.

What he should have said was NOTHING and you know it. The issue blew up into DEFLATE gate. DEFLATE...get it? No one gave a shyt about OVERINFLATE.

Interesting strategy by the Lions to keep two DBs flanking the sidelines at the 40 in case Rodgers tried to run for a 61-yard TD.

Not to mention playing behind the receivers in the end zone. Really innovative stuff.

The only way that could've been coached worse is if Caldwell told his defense to literally take a nap.
Thank you so much for that, hilarious, rarely laugh that hard at a post.

If this doesn't get Caldwell fired, nothing will.

The way I feel - that was a bad call, yes. But did anyone watching that in real time not think it was a face mask? It's only because we have the benefit of replay, which is why these should be reviewable.

Bad call, but not the best example to use for evidence of a "fix" or a drop in officiating quality because it really did look like a face mask.

Either way, no excuse for allowing a 70 yard Hail Mary.

I'll admit, I thought the facemask was the correct call when watching the play live. Upon seeing the replay, I could see that it wasn't nearly egregious as I first thought. Of course, I'm sure the refs saw what I saw and threw the flag.

What is sort of annoying is how Aaron Rogers is getting all this praise when really tonight it was dumb luck that allowed them to win. The reality is that Rogers and his team played pretty poorly throughout and deserved to lose. Fortunately for them, they played a team that specializes in capturing defeat from the jaws of victory.

A good example though of a game changing call that could have been negated by the Belichick Challenge Anything Rule.

scumbag blandino's excuse is ********.

go back and watch it, the referee with the best and closest view never throws the flag. It was Cheffers who could not see at all if the hand went to the face mask because Rodgers back was to him and a side judge that was 15-20 yards away which there was no way he could tell it was a definite facemask.

Runner A1 runs to the A33, where he is tackled by B1, who incidentally grasps A1’s face mask on the tackle, but it is not a twist, turn or pull. Ruling: A’s ball, fourth-and-seven, on A33. No foul.

--- The Lions' player slightly grazed the facemask. Incidental. Should be no penalty. Game over.

I have no idea why you posted this completely irrelevant response to my post, so I really can't answer to it.

Yes, on replay, it looks like a bad call. Even on replay, you can see that rodgers sold it by tucking his chin and turning his head. He then gets up with his chin strap in his mouth, I'm guessing a "loose fit," shoulder shrug, sell.

Even in slow motion I can see why the call was made, in real time. Initial contact was clearly made with the face mask, and rodgers sold it from there.

All that said, why is there no Detroit defender in front of the receiving pack? Poor coaching and awareness on a what, 4% play? It was still their game to lose, the exact opposite of what happened on Denver a few days back.

Lions defender was looking back for the ball and making an effort, he is entitled to do that. Just because the Packers WR contacted him doesn't make it DPI.

Same reason why Malcolm Butler wasn't called for PI on the SB interception.

No, that was a clear DPI and many are saying just that. It is not the same as Butler's. the defender interfered with the WR's attempt to get to the ball.

you know how many hundreds of calls not called on a Hail Mary I've seen in my life? Name the last time Tom Brady or the Pats got a call like THAT...I'll wait.

Of course,if Gronk is in the end zone and PI is called on Carolina on the last play, THAT comes back and GAME OVER declared because...well...YOU love Aaron Rodgers and only he gets and deserves THAT call, right? Call it what you want, that call was BS.

I think Olivia Munn might be giving Aaron Rodgers some acting lessons... it was quite an impressive performance to sell the penalty even more!
