What are the patriots biggest concerns on defense so far?

1) Not being able to tackle quarterbacks.
2) Pass rush

1.) Tackling
2.) Tackling
3.) Tackling

That has been the biggest problem in their two worst efforts. They couldn't tackle yesterday and they couldn't tackle in the second half of the Dolphins' game.

Biggest concern is scheme - and I'm not blaming the coaches.

With Briseet for the last game and a a half, the Pats decided to play softer, giving the underneath stuff to let the other team shorten the game. Give up nothing big, manage the clock.

It worked beautifully against Houston, obviously.

I think they got caught off guard a bit this week. I think they thought Jinny G would go and when he couldn't they had to shorten the playbook (what, 5 passes int eh first half?) and go back to the "safe" scheme.

I honestly think they believed they couldn't win a shootout so they had to shrink the game from 4 quarters to two.

No penalty on that first play, no fumble down deep in Buffalo territory, no miss by Gost, and they might have pulled it off.

Jacoby Brissett has potential, but he's nowhere near ready for the NFL, especially against a Ryan defense that won't show you the same look two plays in a row!

With Brady back, they'll probably feel freer to turn the dD a bit loose once in a while.

So much stupid in this thread

In my mind, when we play press man (Arizona, Houston and the first half of the Miami game) we have a top ten defense.

When we play soft zone, ( second half Miami game and buffalo) we are a bottom three defense.

My biggest concern with this defense are the corners, tackling and pass rush.

My biggest concern on defense is us stopping Cleveland next week on defense next week. Should be everybody's main focus right now.

The lack of interceptions, don't know if its scheme or just no ball hawks, but this issue goes back to last year imo.

Thus far, it's been between how the team traditionally defenses mobile quarterbacks, for the most part, and tackling in the secondary.

DT depth, the non aggressive zone coverage with little bump and run being played, lack of pass rush 6 sacks in 4 games isn't getting it done, 3rd down and red zone haven't been great either.

Interior pass rush. It could be the game plan related, but the big guys on the inside are not rushing the passer. Saw a decent pass rush against Arizona and Houston and the common element in those games was Anthony Johnson. His stats in those games don't look good, but sometimes you need another body being able to rush the passer to free up other guys.

I haven't seen much pass rush outside of the AZ game and 1st half of the Phins game

I know there's no chance in any change but I wish to god Bill would adjust how he handles mobile QBs. Everytime we just play contain we get ripped apart through the air, even against garbage QBs. Tyrod murdered us with his arm all day and it's just another example in a long list of mediocre mobile QBs who tear us apart. Geno Smith comes to mind as someone who looked all world against us every time we faced him.

Our corners just aren't good enough to pass protect without accompanying pressure on the QB. Simple as that.

246 yards and 1 touchdown doesnt classify as being "murdered" by a QB

Major concern for me. I been dissapointed with Malcom brown. I expected him to be a run stopper and take that next step. Let's see if he can step it up.

How many times did the Bills punt all day? They did whatever they wanted ALL DAY LONG.

So give me a break with the usual defensive stats because they simply do not tell the story of how that game went.

How about check out how "well" our 3rd down defense performed.

Agree on all counts, plus this one: the putrid coverage "skills"(snicker) of our LBs.

We are the poster defense for "bend don't break."
Lots of yards given up, not many points.
Unfortunately, we played a very underachieving AZ team, a terrible Miami team (that lit us up in the 2nd half), an inept Texans team with a questionable QB, and the Bills.
I hope we can tighten it up before we play the QB's that have the ability to pick us apart.
