Question: If McNally threatened he wasn't going to "go to ESPN...yet" with what Wells presumes is some kind of wrong-doing on behalf of the Patriots, why wasn't four interviews enough to get him to throw somebody under the bus? Do they really think some sneakers and a jersey is going to do it?

Question: Why is it so hard to believe that the two Patriots ball boys could've done something without Brady's awareness when the two communicated privately together quite frequently, and in one game unbeknownst to Brady the balls came out like rugby balls?

ESPN is reporting that Brady will be answering questions at 7:30 tonight. They say it will be fan questions picked out for him to answer.

The game you reference is the home game vs. the Jets. McNally would've been the last guy to touch the balls that game. Presumably, he's annoyed by Brady's standards on the balls. Unfortunately for the NFL, nowhere does anyone say that those standards are below 12.5. In fact, the bar is only set at 16 PSI. Yes, Brady wanted them below 16 PSI.

Plus, at 16 psi, the balls were overinflated, in violation of the rule.

To us. The general public, however, is very stupid when it comes to matters that don't directly affect their interests. They're even more stupid when it comes to matters which negatively affect something or someone they have a negative view on. So it's doubtful that most of the public actually read (forget about understands) the report.

Winner.

The Wells report could have a line buried in it that says "I'm guessing on everything and have little fact" and it probably wouldn't matter (depending on the favored status of the subject matter). As long as the headline or first few sentences say "Tom Brady/Patriots cheated", most of the the simple minded public, and a media that feeds that simple mindedness, has all the evidence they need.

Further reading on the simple minded public's inability to read subtext and contemplate nuances can be found in the reference section Gate, Spy.

So is the media ****show going to raze Salem State tonight? I'm glad there's not more pressing issues going on right now like serious problems with race in our country, or general global turmoil, I wouldn't want the press to miss it.

Sullivan -- in the well-distributed e-mail that put the game-operations people and officiating crew on alert to watch for football chicanery -- stated “it is well known around the league” that the Patriots alter footballs after they officials check them

How far did Wells go in trying to specify the chatter? Or was that moot? In which circles was it “well known” that the Patriots alter footballs? Among teams that might have an ax to grind?

Nowhere in Wells’ report are Pees and Rosburg cited, except in the list of interviewees.

Whether their testimony was damning, absolving or inconclusive, we don’t know. Wells doesn’t say. And, unless someone opens an investigation into the investigation, we won’t know.

Because here’s the thing: Nobody oversees the overseers.
Why is the Sullivan guy not quoted and why arent their cell phone texts captured ?

@tomecurran Agree with @ESPN_Colin Don't think setting up the Pats was wrong. Even governments operate this way to catch illegal behavior.

Right. Like life-threatening, danger-to-society stuff. Crime.

First of all the teams are rivals. Setting up a sting operation with a direct competitor is not the proper or ethical way to go about that. At the end of the day, the NFL should have kept any of this in house and not partnered with the Colts. Besides, if allegations were made, there should have been proof requested prior to any sting operation.

I don't believe it simply because the balls tested as they should have according to the calculations of the NFL's own Wells report scientists.

You are right. I had thought this was at the Jets. This makes it even more crazy.

@RussianBear LOL.. Boston globe is now comparing Brady's "denial" press conference to Clinton's "denial" presser re: Lewinsky.
