The O-Line’s performance against Atlanta in SB

wait, your actually surprised the Patriots didnt put up 0 qb hits, 0 sacks in the superbowl? you realize the other team is kinda good too, right?

secondly, judging him on his career sack numbers is beyond facetious. He's a DT, their job is not to get sacks, its to tie up blockers to let the ends and LBs make plays. He got free because the gameplan was to focus on stopping Beasley and Freeney. That pulled protection to the edges and opened up the middle for him to make plays.

by your logic, Wilfork is a bum too. I mean he only had 16 sacks in 11 years and a career high of 3.5 in 1 season.....

I’ll wait while you give me the Super Bowl where Wilfork was in the conversation to be MVP ... Now you’re guilty of the hyperbole you accuse me of.
You're constructing a very poor straw man now. You're also offended that I called you disingenuous when you shouldn't be. To be quite honest with you, I could have said a lot of other things because you clearly don't have much of a grasp on the defense Atlanta plays if you're using sacks during the regular season to evaluate Jarrett.

Freeney was 36..

and Brady was 39...guess the Falcons are worthless bums for not stopping him, right? No matter the age, the greats will find ways to make plays.

the OP is also severely underrating the impact losing Gronk has on pass protection. Dont forget he is also the best blocking TE in football and is essentially a 6th o-lineman out there

edit: Damn it, @AndyJohnson beat me to it

No the OP is expecting not only that the team win the championship but do it flawlessly with every unit and every player dominating their opponent because winning a title isn't enough you have to do it without any player from the opponent doing well.
My god we only won the SB and there was a guy in the other team who could have been MVP if we lost. What are we going to do????

Gronk rarely stays in to block in pass plays

true, but he does lay big time chips on the way out. that alone would minimize the need for double teams

It should also be noted that Atlanta largely went away from what they typically do in the first half (which clearly caught the Pats off guard). Their DTs will normally two gap while the DEs one gap (ala Seattle) and the secondary will largely play zone in the back end. In the first half, Atlanta played a ton of press man and their DTs were one gapping and shooting upfield through their assigned gap. Jarrett was making good use of the bull rush against Andrews and was getting excellent pad leverage on him in the first half. This switcheroo worked with great results... in the first half. Unfortunately for Atlanta, when you play that much man and your DL is pushing upfield that much in the first half, you're eventually going to get completely gassed on the second half. It happened to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII as well. They couldn't sustain it, the Pats adjusted, and they got torched in the money quarter. But this will also largely explain why Jarrett came into the game with 3 sacks, then turned around and generated 3 sacks in this game alone.

There was another TE in his spot so if the game plan was to chip I don't think the fact that a different TE laid the chip is a significant difference.

Now if gronk was in the game it affects the COVERAGE and can relieve pressure by making Atlanta hestitate to blitz, making them chip gronk before rushing, or having gronk (or another receiver because of putting extra attention in him) open earlier in the progressions to negate the rush.

I think the O-Line played great. They lulled the Falcons defense into a false sense of security and then struck when the opportunity arose They helped create the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history cementing Brady's legacy. Everything worked out perfectly.

Well Brady dropped back like 70 times and we were way behind in score. It's not like they didn't know a pass was coming.....T-off time for Atlanta. Gonna have a fair amount of success. I'm not letting the O-line completely off the hook and I'm sure BB will address it.....they have to do better but I'm not shocked Atlanta got through sometimes. They also spent themselves doing it. Worked out in the end.

Brady makes the OL look better than it is, they can struggle against defenses that can rush the passer, especially up the middle. If the Patriots could get a mauler center, that would be awesome.

We locked Andrews up cheap for a good while
Just need to feed him maybe we can see if Big Vince can invite him to some cookouts?

Andrews had the problems? I think you mean Mason. Atlanta stunted a ton with Jarrett and Beasley against Mason and Cannon which gave them trouble in passing off blocking assignments. On the other side, Solder had a rough first half dealing with a straight edge rush from whomever he lined up against. His improvement in the second half was key (despite the sack by Freeney).

Andrews and Thuney weren't specifically exploited like they were vs. Houston.

By overtime, the high number of snaps had caught up to Atlanta so suddenly there was no more stunting and the pass rush was completely gone.

Regards,
Chris

Brady was 39

If you seriously think a player getting beaten in one play by ANY NFL player is an embarrassment you have a lot to learn about the game.
Point was that Solder shouldn't have been destroyed by a past his prime Dwight Freeney a bunch of times in the biggest game of the year. I love Freeney but, he isn't even signed right now. Solder has to shut him down. Lucky it didn't cost us.

Nate had his worst game of the season. Was he injured?

So you're ok with making Grady Jarrett look like Reggie White? I mean, seriously. Grady Jarrett?
Didn't BB & the organization just sign Andrews to an extension?? Seems as though they're pretty fond of the guy whom Grady Jarrett "abused." Also, Jarrett is a pretty good young player.
