The case for Diggs... Trevon Diggs

Not open for further replies.
The claim that Diggs was released is actually incorrect. He was waived.

Per the league rules:
From the start of the season until the trade deadline, only players who have 3 or fewer accrued seasons pass through waivers.
After the trade deadline and until the end of the Super Bowl, ALL players who are on the active roster must pass through waivers if their contract with their current team is terminated.

So, Diggs, like Darius Slay, is subject to the waiver process. The team claiming him is responsible for the remaining contract minus any amortized bonus money that was already paid out.
I say let it play out.. he's likely gonna be available in the offseason again I'd imagine? Bring him in camp let him compete with Davis for the Spot opposite gonzo. Who knows?

That all depends on the Packers. They may keep him as his salaries aren't outrageous for a starting corner. They are high for a #4 guy.

Agreed. I like Davis but not at 20M Diggs has been a top 5 player at his position in the league and can still play.. I say he's worth a shot.. team friendly deal...

Wasn't Vrabel a part timer in Pittsburgh before signing here in 01?
Yes. Jason Gildon and Greg Lyold were the outside LB's his rookie season. Then lost out to Carlos Emmons in 1998 and 1999. Joey Porter emerged in 2000 and that was it for Vrabel. I hated Vrabel for that sack in 1997 playoffs.

Gettin Diggy wit it.

Alex Austin hasn't seen the field in ages. And their depth has fared much better than anyone ever expected over the course f the season. No one was harder on Verdarian Lowe than I was but he played really well filling in for Campbell.
Alex Austin has been injured. Austin was IRed on 11/25. He was injured on Special teams during the Cincy game. Wrist injury.

Prior to that, Austin saw only special teams snaps starting in week 5 because Austin had regressed in coverage.

Your specialty.
You're projecting your issues onto others again, Triumph. The fact that you fubared that Vrabel was one of the first UFA signings by Belichick and it was well publicized that he came from Pitt at the expiration of his contract is just the latest example of you having "your own facts".

Hilarious coming from the PF know it all.

You like to read something over on Musket Fire or Patswire and scurry back here to post as your own not including; the link.

Me? I misread the question to read when Vrabel was hired.

Trevon Diggs was released by the Cowboys yesterday. The 27 year old CB wanted to go to DC to be with family for the holidays after their game on Xmas and was denied. At any rate, he is currently a free Agent who can sign with anyone for the playoff push. He's a quality DB on a team in need of defensive help, and OBTW, it will be easy to see his brother.

He is a bigger CB and I could see him being a guy you can match up with one of those prolific receiving TE's we see so often now. Mapu or Diggs? Think about it.
The Packers claimed him.

I think they have waiver priority over us but I don't know if we made a claim attempt.

According to reports Diggs was released in part because he wanted time off to stay with his family over the Christmas holidays. But the team denied the request.

Seems like a really dumb reason to dump a player. I think the real they released him is because they wanted to get rid of his salary. His recent extension went for 5 years/97m.

So I guess we are still going with street free agents. We have a ton of salary cap space next season too with about 55m available. Who are we going to get with all that money?

The Patriots have numerous deals they have to get done with their own players, starting with Gonzalez when the season ends, and including, Chiasson, Tonga, Gibbens, and Hawkins. Most won't break the bank but the mid level deals begin to add up. Hopefully they address the interior OL in free agency, the Ravens and Lindebaum aren't close and he should be the top target, but there are guys like Bills OG Conor McGovern who could be in their sights as well. They could also go after an Edge like Jalen Philips, a Right Tackle- Braeden Smith, linebackers Devin Lloyd or Nakobe Dean, and the cornerback market is deep.
WR is really weak, I wouldn't touch George Pickens, who is the opposite of the kind of players Vrabel did building around. Mike Evan's is too old to invest in imo.

Vrabel and Co. have had a plan they have been working from day one, and the last offseason was the best I have ever seen for any team, and I think that we will see them continue to fill their weaker positions and their overall depth in the coming offseason.

He has been released again. What is the issue?

He sucks and nobody would know who he is if he wasn’t related to Diggs and played in Dallas
He was good. Earned All Pro and Pro Bowl recognition earlier in his career.

Then he tore his ACL in 2023, and the next year had to have surgery on the same knee in December after a good start to the season. Apparently he’s not as good physically as he once was.
