Post mortem: stay or go?

Good luck to the Team who pays Jakobi Meyers a lot he's good not great.
Nobody said he is great. He is a good WR2 and our best and most consistent WR by far. It would be insanity to let go of the guy who leads the team in yards by a mile, is Mac's clear number 1 and favourite target in a system that we know takes time for new WRs to get used to.

Good is duly noted but Meyers is not to die for and he was playing on a poor Offensive Team buyer beware.

It would be financial suicide to pay Meyers anywhere over $10M dollars and make him your highest paid WR.

Agholor's money is free, so people don't need to be stingy with devoting money to the WR spot.

Newsflash also he's not he best WR available in FA and if he's close to the Top no disrespect it's not a good class buyer beware.

Not a FA, but it might impact the thought process of some here:

Bourne is, at least publicly, saying he wants to be back and he loves it in New England.

Jon Jones needs to be resigned, IMO. Jack Jones could be ticked off…. Marcus Jones is a keeper, but short. Jalen Mills has not been available the last few weeks. We need depth.

Miles Bryant is what he is. He is available and gives 100%.

Meyers…I let him walk. We can’t devote massive cap space for him. He would be a solid #2/#3 WR on a contender. I’d rather roll with Bourne, Thorton, a draft pick, and a FA WR. Algholor looked good in camp, but didn’t translate to the regular season…and he would be too expensive.

DMac has 9M of dead money on our cap….I would not be opposed to extending him another season to reduce that dead money hit. But yeah, feels like the end of the line for him….especially in light of the Hamlin situation making him thinking about getting out while he is still healthy.

Slater…love the man. He should be our ST coach!

I keep McDermott…he now has starting experience at RT. We are OK on the interior OL with Strange, Andrews, and Onwenu. McDermott is a great back up who can start in a pinch at minimum right now. Cajuste needs to be better too. As for Trent Brown, I’d love to flip him back to RT….while drafting our LT of the future….

Agholor would be too expensive is that a typo?? I don't think he gets a contract in FA I think his days in the NFL are numbered. Give me some of what you are smoking.

Yeah, he won’t command much on the market…but he will out price himself as far as the Pats are concerned.

Spitballin' here

Retain the services of:
Jakobi Meyers, Myles Bryant, Jonathan Jones, Julius Peppers, Mack Wilson Sr, Scotty Washington, LaBryan Ray, Conor McDermott, Daniel Eukale, Joe Cardona, Yodny Cajuste,

Get Rid of
Nelson Agonyolor, Isaiah Wynn, Mike Palardy, Joejuan Williams, Kristain Wilkerson, Carl Davis, Raekwon McMillan

Retiring:
Matthew Slater, Devon McCourty, Marcus Cannon

Undecided:
Damien Harris - his cost vs the production of Pierre Strong & Kevin Harris
Cody Davis - Brenden Schoolers emergence, Raleigh Webb under contract, is another 2m special teamer needed?

Bad Penny, will turn up eventually
James Ferentz

Think we will get out bid on:
Jakobi Meyers ... can see Josh making a run at him, along with a few other teams... I think it will take what we gave agholor to retain him, but BB has always been unwilling to do that... can see us making an offer around 6 to 8 million... I think hes worth double that - 12-16 million a year... I think he's worth that much all day long, but i don't think we pay unless Mac really gets on the team to keep him

I think they will re-sign: McCourty, Jones, Bryant, McDermott, Peppers, Davis, Wilson, Harris, Davis, Harris, McMillan, Cardona, Ekuale, Ferentz. I don't think any of these will break the bank at all although Jonathan Jones might end up at $10m a year. The rest will go.

The one major question is Meyers. I think they would like to have him back but I think he's going to command at least $14m a year on the open market. It's a weak WR free agent market and salaries have been inflated since last year. Kirk was a similar player when he got $17m last year so cit may really cost a lot to keep him. My gut says they let him walk at $14m+. His situation seems quite similar to JC Jackson. A good but not great player who they let walk and have been able to replace easier than expected. Wonder if you could sign Paris Campbell on a much cheaper deal and then draft a slot guy in the 2/3rd round instead.

Try to keep:

J Jones:
Meyers:
McDermott:
Peppers:
Ekuale:
Cardona:
Cody Davis:
Harris

McMillan:
M Wilson:
Cajuste:
Carl Davis:
Would like to see someone capable enough to beat out the bottom four.

1) Bryant is good value for our #6 CB.
2) Jones will be re-signed.
3) McCourty has a decision to make. He certainly can play well enough to part of our rotation at safety.
4) McDermott should be signed for camp. He is already a backup RT who can start. Let him prove his value in camp. With an actual OL coach, he should be fine as a backup RT or even as our swing OT.
5) Yup, move Trent Brown back to RT, and have him and Onwenu block the sun on running plays.
6) Our number #1 and #2 need is at LT. The GM SHOULD be able to deal with that (after finding a new OL coach.

WIDE RECEIVER
CURRENT: Myers, Parker, Agholor, Bourne, Thornton

DISCUSSION
You seem to want to blow this up. You don't re-sign Myers. Parker isn't on your radar. How many times should the team try this and then ne surprised when they are not able to find two new players who can compete?

You want to COUNT ON a new free agent and a draftee wide receiver. What is our likelihood of finding a draftee better than Parker? How likely is it that we find a free agent that will produce as much as Myers. I suppose we could sign two and hope for one success (as we did with Bourne and Agholor). I suggest that "over-paying" by a couple million for Myers will be better for the wide receiver corps.

Sure, try to find a 2nd level bargain free agent WR. Sure, take a fling on another draftee. HOWEVER, we should start with a solid WR corps. I really don't likely your idea of Thornton, Bourne and pray for rain (pray that someone else can produce).

It would be financial suicide to pay Meyers anywhere over $10M dollars and make him your highest paid WR.
In a world where Christian Kirk gets 4/72,000,000 with 37 million guaranteed, Meyers gets over 10 million per year, easily.

He is consensus best free agent WR.

Free Agents
D-Mac: Go I think he will retire though.
Slater: Stay but likewise.
J Jones: Go
Meyers: Go Will cost a lot IMO
Bryant: Go
Agholor: Go. Thank u next
Wynn: Go. Thank u next
McDermott: Go. I'm sure they can find depth that is better
Peppers: Stay
Ekuale: Stay
Cardona: Stay
Ferentz: Go
Cody Davis: Stay
McMillan: Go
M Wilson: Go
Harris: Go If there was a way he could guarantee he'd stay healthy then stay.
Cannon: Go. He done.
Cajuste: Stay
Carl Davis: Stay
Palardy: Go. Had a good game yesterday but he was terrible this season.
Slowjuan: Go. Thank u next
Wilkerson: Stay
Agree, except for Cajuste. If he can't beat out McDermott, he doesn't belong on the roster.
