Even though they do not have a ton of cap space, this would indicate they are near the bottom of the league (27/32) in cash total spent for all active players.
Only teams below them are rams, bears lions, bucs and titans (guess what they all have in common)

So for those who have not been overly impressed with their activity during free agency, it may be because they are not spending like the majority of other teams. 97 million less than the browns who are #1. Where are the playmakers or foundational pieces for OL or DL. Hopefully a prime LT from the draft.
No WR or TE will move the needle in year 1 for the offense. Hoping they do not go for Flowerrs or Addison or Mayers in round 1, Ohio State WR would be good.

Schuster Smith, Gesicki, James Robinson, Reilly Reiff, Calvin Anderson, Chris Board and Trace Mcsurley....not exactly knocking your socks off.
Schuster Smith and Gesicki may help with passing game, but Gesicki can not block worth a nickel on tape I have watched.

• Jabrill Peppers, safety (two years, up to $ 11 million) solid signing but not a playmaker
• Daniel Ekuale, defensive tackle (one year, money TBD) decent reserve, not starter talent
• Myles Bryant, cornerback (one year, $ 2.6 million RFA tender) let's not go there
• Jonathan Jones, cornerback (two years, $ 19 million) very good signing...dependable CB, not all pro or anything but good
• Carl Davis, defensive tackle (one year, money TBD) reserve run stuffer
• Raekwon McMillan, linebacker (one year, $ 2.2 million) potential starter if he can stay healthy
• James Ferentz, center (one year, $ 1.2 million) Why and WTF, where are the blackmail pictures

• Matthew Slater, special teamer (one year, $ 2.6 million) Mr. dependable, all pro ST, but can he win any games for you

BoB and BB will truly have their work cut out for them, given the other teams in the divisions moves.
I can not see any top draft picks propelling them into third place in their rookie year?
The only move that would truly move the needle would be Lamar Jackson......surprise us Bill.

So this just magnifies the importance of the draft to the Patriots this year. If BB screws up this draft it could have a ripple effect on the team for years. Because of how badly BB has done in the draft over the past decade or so, this kind of turns this event into a time of 'dread' rather than hope.

"What no-name player will we draft next? Will we have to wait until Day 2 to hear a player picked for our team? What all-pro did we pass on to draft this scrub?" Etc. are now all valid concerns for Patriots Nation tuning into tonight's draft.

Like EVERY draft, people should not get their hopes up. almost every year when Pats pick is announced the collective Blood Pressure of 99% of Pats fans rises to dangerous levels. This year at 14 or lower, they are unlikely to get a difference maker......This could be the beginning of the end of the BB era.
