OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

The Cardinals as long as they beat Seattle in week 18.

Basically the perfect scenario for the Bucs next week is if the Rams lose in Baltimore which is possible AND the Cardinals win in Dallas which is likely tougher. That puts the Bucs in the 2 seed AND the Rams back in the 5 seed.
I'll love to see a Cowboys/Rams matchup regardless of what round it is! That at the very least will eliminate one of the two!

It's true but to have 3 is not great. They should of beaten the Saints once at the least.
They should have won on Halloween but the refs totally hosed them. The head scratching loss was WFT. Defense was straight up garbage against a terrible QB.

The bucs pissed away #1 seed this year.

Against the Rams and WFT they just got beat, it happens. But the two Saints games were absolutely embarrassing chokes in almost opposite ways. It’s their own fault unfortunately.

Just saying…could you imagine the *********** for McDaniels and Belichick if the Patriots had followed up a shutout loss with 32 points, still missing two star receivers and running back, with a practice squad\developmental receiver and former bust running back leading the way? You’d never hear the end of it. Carolina’s defense is legitimate. Why does Leftwich deserve less credit than McDaniels? That gameplan was every bit as “genius.”

What was genius about the game plan? I mean, not to knock Leftwich, but "throw the ball to Brown, who's going to kill Gilmore, and who Brady has a great connection with" seems like an obvious game plan under the circumstances.

Shaq Barrett has sprained ACL, MCL; Bucs hope for playoff return - ProFootballTalk

So there's the weekly dose of "Why Bruce should probably just wait on test results before speaking about injuries this year".

It’s not even worth cracking a joke about this anymore.

Honestly I wouldn’t be that opposed to just taking the 4 seed and resting absolutely everyone between now and the playoffs. I know Rust vs Rest can then come up as a debate but Jesus they cannot get through a single game without an injured starter.

I cannot for the life of me find another NFL player who has had an ACL SPRAIN (not tear) in season to see what happened to them afterwards. Anyone find any examples?

According to the team, he will likely be back for the playoffs. But yeah, have no idea. So since they are calling it a "sprain" that means its grade one, which means its pretty much intact. If were grade two or three it would be called a torn acl and he would be out for the year. Because its grade one, he can play on it with heavy brace. Pain is not really an issue later, the acl is more about support of the leg, with grade one, that is not compromised as much as a tear. Technically a sprain is a tear, but in this case not a significant one.

“according to the team” yeah this means less than nothing. I need an example of a player in season getting an ACL sprain. Anyone.

It wasn't really a genius gameplan...just pointing out that if Josh McDaniels had put it together, it would have been considered a masterpiece.

There's a healthy chunk of this board who would deny McDaniels credit for a game plan that was nearly universally hailed as the greatest offensive game plan in the history of the sport.

Which gameplan is that? Or are you talking about a theoretical? Josh is a good OC; most of the guys who are coaching at the NFL level are good OCs and understand Xs and Os and advanced strategies. The gameplan Leftwich/Brady came up with in the Super Bowl last year was at least as impressive as any of the nine Super Bowls in New England. They had a lot of weapons, and the Chiefs weren't great, but that's happened in the past as well. The Patriots have a good coaching staff. They're not master chess players who gained gigantic advantages for Brady to exploit, giving him some absurd advantage. The Bucs coaching staff has also done a great job, after some early struggles, of getting the offense in position to succeed with Brady. The perception, for whatever reason, is that the Bucs coaches are a bunch of moronic buffoons who hold clipboards while the Patriots coaches are actively winning games.

Theoretical. My point is that this board (like most NFL boards) is infected with the anti-OC virus. Those people generally just break down plays into 2 groups of two:

Run/Pass
Worked/didn't work

And then go after the OC whenever the combination doesn't fit their narrative. "Should have called a run there!" can sometimes be all that's needed to be absolutely correct, but it's usually nothing near that simple.

Josh McDaniels is one of the very best O.C.s in the game. But coaches need players.
