OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Ok, I cannot for the life of me find an example of an NFL player getting an ACL sprain and it’s driving me crazy. It’s only tears that end a season. Did Arians just misunderstand what the doctor said?

It wasn't really a genius gameplan...just pointing out that if Josh McDaniels had put it together, it would have been considered a masterpiece.
The game plan was a great improvement over the NO game, where after the injuries to the starters and the struggles by Gronk, the Bucs continued to play no risk it no biscuit. Taylor Johnson and Darden are playing like scrubs and the Bucs expected them to replace Godwin and Evans. Taking Rojo out for Vaughn was also a disaster.

In the Panthers game, they didn't force anything, took the short yardages, and the field goals. It was very much like a NE gameplan. Be patient, control TOP, make the other team make mistakes, have the D put the offense in good field position to score, take an occasional shot down the field.

I cannot believe how pathetic the Tampa RBs are attempting to catch a simple swing pass. Brady is no longer young and could have a coronary out there.

Evans in Covid protocols. Might not matter though since I think they were goinng to rest him either way

Well the issue was, the gameplan in NO was if 3 of your top skill players didnt get hurt, they had a week to adjust. It was not that the players went out its that they went out in the game. Brown replaces Godwin and Evans will be back, I think things were fine, but you could tell Brady was having to teach class most of the game. That play where he stopped the guy in motion because he left too soon so the line could get set was an example.

Weird, I was more worried about everyone else because carolina had like 10 guys test positive today.

Which is why I think Bell was a great signing. He was such a dynamic player. I would think he can still catch a pass and take it 5 or 10 yards. Jets game should be a good time test him out.

What was genius about the game plan? I mean, not to knock Leftwich, but "throw the ball to Brown, who's going to kill Gilmore, and who Brady has a great connection with" seems like an obvious game plan under the circumstances.
I wonder if something is still wrong with Gilmore as AB pantsed him several times Sunday. And despite the over 100 yd game Brown was not in sync with TFB, at least early on. Whether that's rust or AB being a meathead, I can't tell.

Bucs just need to avoid playing the Rams (and Saints maybe although I still think the two losses were just bad luck), they matchup favorably against everyone else. It's a fun rock-paper-scissors in NFC this year with each team having its own kryptonite (Bucs - Rams, Rams - Packers, Packers - Bucs, Cowboys - both Bucs and Packers).

Similar rock-paper-scissors in AFC but less clear. Generally the Bills and Chiefs are both vulnerable against super physical teams that can play a pre-2000s style of football, but all of those teams in the AFC are also suspect at QB so it would likely take multiple games against those teams for the Bills and Chiefs to fall.

Overall the Bucs and Bills are the strongest teams vs. the likely playoff field but it will as always come down to matchups. Chiefs and Packers always have a chance due to the QBs / weapons, but I still don't trust the Chiefs D against an elite offense and teams that can slow Mahomes without selling out while the Packers are pretty average outside Rodgers/Adams and have gotten super lucky in close games and some lucky matchups vs. teams that were slumping or had lots of injuries (+ clutch play from Rodgers to take advantage).

It's incredible to think that Gronk is helping knock Brady out of the MVP race.

He had caught 2 out of 11 passes in the NO games, and apparently had 3 or 4 drops. Had he held onto the drops, Bucs might have won. Brady might have had a TD or 2.

In the Panthers game, Gronk dropped an easy TD.

That's 2 or 3 TD, maybe an extra100 yards, and an extra W that Brady has missed out if Gronk played like his normal reliable self.

Come on Gronk time to get it right against those lowly Jets.

I know that I'm reading into a very small data set, but it looks as if the Saints' game plan of targeting the knees of the Bucs players freaked Gronk out, and it looked like he was still hesitant in this last game.

I'm hoping he gets over it by the next game.

It's impressive how much better Fournette got as a receiver. It's really unfortunate that Jones and Vaughn have failed to show any similar improvement. And Bernard being on the shelf means it's probably Bell and a prayer until Fournette returns.

Vaughn and Rojo were pretty good vs the Panthers. I really like Vaughn's break away speed.

I love Gilmore, but he never should have been covering AB like that. The only type of receivers that can give him problems are the quick, shifty ones like AB. Gilmore excels one on one against the typical 6’2” outside threat. He’s a long striding, rather lanky CB. Quick for his size but not quick enough for that.

Gronk was absolutely playing like a deer in the headlights last week and I don’t blame him.

Wow. Jimmy G has a torn thumb or something like that who knows, point is he’s hurt again. Well plus side is if the 49ers lose this week they NEED to beat the Rams in week 18 to make the playoffs.

I did hear it mentioned that the leg is still not 100%. I've not seen that verified by any other reporting, but I'd not looked for it.
