OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Ryan Jensen now on the injury report with a Hip. Could be nothing because of the Thursday game and Monday injury report.

His functional throwing strength should get better over the course of the next few years, as he strengthens not just his arm, but his legs and core. He's almost certainly never going to have an elite throwing arm, but he doesn't need that. He just needs to be able to make all the throws. The kid's not post injury Pennington, and he's probably going to end up somewhere in the Peyton Manning arm strength area.
Peyton had a strong arm.

Drew Brees is a far better comparison.

Both use precision touch passing. Brees mastered how to throw it deep with those touch passes, Mac will need to do the same

Use him sparingly for this game so he can get back to game rhythm. They'll need him vs the Saints
If the fractures are healed there is no risk.
But I agree overall, make sure he is good to go for the Saints.

The supposed inevitable Mahomes dynasty has been killed by Brady. Not to say he won’t breakthrough and win another SB because he’s still very young. But we’re gonna see what happened with Rodgers and Wilson going forward. AFC is stacked with awesome young QBs now. Allen, Herbert, Burrow, Lamar, possibly Baker idk. Mahomes is no shoe in to just coast every year, not with the that absolutely putrid defense.
After watching the Bills dismantle KC it could be time for the passing of the tourch.

I don't know. Twitter and Facebook hadn't been invented yet back then.
The Pats have 6 SB wins since and this team has a much longer rope than they did during the Carroll years.

For all time passing yards:
AB has moved up 1 spot to 27 with 12071 yards behind Hines Ward.
Evans moves from 86 to 82 just behind Gronk.

For TD:
AB goes from 31 to tied for 25th with 82Td.
Evans takes a huge jump from 71 to tied for 59th with 65Td.

BA is musing that Gronk might be ready for the Washington game.

I'm itching for him to come back to join the stats party the receivers are putting up, even if just used sparingly and for blocking. It sort of sucks that Evans is going to pass him in all time receiving yards while he is sitting out.

But overall, I really feel like Pats fans don't really appreciate Brady's play at the position. The instincts he had, his talents, management, clutchness, etc. They don't seem to realize that plenty of good QBs like Rivers, Romo, and Ryan were all very good, and very similar to Brady, but still had crucial flaws. I don't know, I hate it. I still hate how Pats fans were saying that we should have kept Garopollo even if it meant "sacrificing" the 2018 Super Bowl, or ask if the Pats would have won if they kept Bledsoe over Brady. What other fanbase would ever say something like that about their QB?
You can say that again. I was shocked at how many Pat's fans were ready to move on during the Jimmy G saga.

Looking back. It looks like the organization and the coaches were ready to move on too. Too many misses in the draft. Key supporting players declining or moving on. Cap situation getting more difficult. By 2018, everything had to go right and they had to play their butts off to win the SB. However, there were red flags everywhere that the talent level was on a major decline. The BB tradition of looking for talent in the bargain bin wasn't going to be enough.

BUT the key tell that the organization was ready to move on(other than refusing to give Brady a long term extension), was the Pats unwillingness to go all in. They should have thrown everything including the kitchen sink to be competitive during Bradys last few years. There are lots of great QBs but no one has the intangibles he does such as being clutch and brings a team up. Only one that can compare with the intangibles is Montana.

Instead the Pat's organization wanted to reset. Get younger and get their cap space in order. What fans don't realize is that once you let a SB opportunity go, it might be decades to win again. Just have to look at the league's perpetually good top teams, Packers, 49s, Steelers, Sains. Top teams year after year but no SB in 10 years plus. For 49rs, it has been 27 years.

Statistically it is one every 32 years and that's where the Pat's are now. So baffles my mind that Pat's, like most of the league, punted at the best chance to win the SB and beat the statistical odds.

Can you please share the link to the list you are using?

It's crazy to think that Evans, Godwin and AB are all on track to have > 1k yd seasons (16 games). Has there ever been a team with 3 WRs w/ 1k seasons?

Looked it up. Five teams did it. I think the most impressive has to be 1980 SD with the rules back then.

Lol Brady isn’t winning the mvp when they can give it to one of these young guys and hype them
The 44 year old narrative can win it for him if he has great stats and great team record

How about 4 1000 plus receivers?

Small chance with Gronk if he can come back healthy and stay healthy.

Smaller chance with Leonard Fournette, if he can keep playing like Playoff Lenny the rest of the season.

Tyler Johnson also shows potential but he won't get the chance unless there are any games missed by tr top 3 receivers.

Seeing as Winston is somehow playing well on the Saints doesn’t that just prove that the Bucs weren’t “just a QB away”?
They were never a super team and they still are not. Brady just makes everything work.

I don't think people understand that the last 20 years were the exception to every rule for every pro sports team since at least free agency. The Pats were more successful than Bama has been with a fixed playing field. In 1997-99, we were happy when Bledsoe won with the pin in his finger against the phins. I mean playoffs, playoffs playoffs?!?! If the pats made the playoffs that was a great season. But by 99, Pete took a SB contender and crapped the bed. So he had to go. Plus if you weren't on usenet, you only talked around the water cooler in the office. Pre Parcells, you'd never even see the home games on TV either. Sar and Bob Jensen say hi!

With that, get off my lawn!
Good times. Good times. Usenet. Good ol' SAR a legend in his own mind bragging about his wealth and "Tollbooth Bob" Jensen, Jests fantasist. And then there was Bender on the Bills Usenet. Bills fans hated Flutie and wanted Rob Johnson, the tackling dummy at QB because like archetype Bledsoe he was "tall and had a strong arm". Bills screwed the pooch and lost their brief window of long shot opportunity playing RJ instead of Doug Flutie.
Had a football fan on Usenet track be down to my job, sending a letter to my CEO and threatening to find me and punch me out.
I do confess I was a consummate wiseass on Usenet. And interacting with rabid opposing fans was fun for a while.
Back to the Bucs.
