OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

In a vacuum? A no brainer. This team would average at least 10 more ppg with Watson, and I think they’d go 12-5 or 11-6 at worst. AFC contenders. In reality, Watson’s legal situation, contract, and trade comp would make it a lot murkier.

you think jones will never reach watson’s potential? watson had one really good year statistically.

He might, but I wouldn’t say it’s likely.

Well Bama has won 6 championships in basically 10 years which is technically better BUT it’s infinitely less impressive to win a college championship and stay good than win a Super Bowl and stay good.
College football championships are a joke. While basketball has a playoff of 64 teams based on the season, football has 4 teams being selected by a committee.

That is the Brady factor. Think of the egos he is dealing with from Evans to Godwin to AB to Gronk. I mean to keep that whole thing chugging is such an example of his leadership. Brady knew at the end he needed to feed Evans to keep him feeling good. It really is what separates him as the ultimate leader.
It's really bittersweet to see Brady playing so well in TB. Of course I root for him because of all he's done here but I can't stand seeing him in another uniform.

He might, but I wouldn’t say it’s likely.

Right now, Deshaun Watson is a 25-30 TD and 10-15 INT guy. 2020 was his best year but he has not shown he can consistently be a 30-35 and <10 INT player. I think Mac can exceed 25-30 TDs.

Brady compares his wealth of options in Bucs' passing game to basketball, says that's not always the case: "If you've got to kick it out to a 3-pointer, you kick it out there because he's open and he makes it. It's tough if you know if you kick it out, he's going to miss it."

The last three years, Watson has averaged roughly 30 INTs and 10 INTs. My issue is all the sacks he takes and that the Houston offense has been closer to average than elite. But still, he’s somewhere in the “very good” range at worst. The Texans are a complete clown show.

Sure, Mac could be better than Watson in the end. Since he’s better in the pocket and more accurate, I think that’s usually a high ceiling. But I’m going with Mac’s scouting report until proven otherwise. Right now he looks exactly as described: very pro ready, highly accurate, steady, but has a low ceiling. He’s done exactly that: poised, high completion pct, low yards per attempt, very few big plays, and the team is averaging under 20 ppg. He has 5 TDs and 5 INTs.

Maybe he’ll improve to a really high. I’m rooting for it. But I’ve also seen so many fan bases fall under the spell of a rookie or young QB who is “just that one thing away” from being the guy. So, I’m cautiously optimistic, but I’d take Watson if all else were equal with contracts, availability, etc.

Yet Ray Lewis has a statue...
Hey! Time for Kraft to retcon the Patriots' Aaron Hernandez image?
Upon further reflection, maybe not.

Kraft would never allow it, for obvious reasons. Either that or he would have a massage buddy.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Watson would pique interest. We would be back to 4-5 prime time games with him

I love Watson. His game, not the person. If we trade for him now then he gets suspended probably the rest of this season and then we are good to go in 2022. This year is a wash anyways with Jones.

I disagree with the trade aspect. I want to see what Mac will become because I like what I'm seeing so far.

Also I like rooting for a guy who doesn't have serious issues in the now wide open closet.

We'll be there with Mac too.

I think it's likely and even higher. Pocket passers > Mobile QBs.
I know it's unpopular to say but Jones looks like a complete JAG to me. His arm is weak, he throws a ton of interceptable balls. He literally has nothing special about his game. He does not elevate, the team does not respond to him. He is a low energy guy. In today's NFL his celling to me looks like a solid back up.
Mills looked volumes better than him on Sunday.

I disagree but I do respect your opinion.

I think he has shown a lot in his first five NFL games.

But you could be right too. I just want to see what he has especially at the end of the season.

If he never improves hes just okay but not a bust. He's only 5 games in. I'm not going to judge his career based on that. I think hes been solid so far and is a legit NFL quarterback

It is really early. I agree. I do hope he improves. I hate to be a Debby downer. Lol
Let's see where he ends up by seasons end. I do wish Bill gave him a legit #1 WR.
