PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP ****** Official 2021 Training Camp Thread ******

Stidham ran a passing camp and then was very active in minicamp so the PUP designation day 1 seems very peculiar to me.

Otherwise good to see Gilmore did indeed report. It feels like things are on track for him to ultimately take the field in 2021 with a contract modification, but I'd be surprised if it was more than just a raise this year. I do hope they can keep him a few more years even if that means letting him field offers next year. But they've also gotta think about how they keep JC, so obviously there are a lot of moving parts.
He pretty much sucks even when healthy. So the PUP designation seems to fit 24/7, 365.

An update on the pup list and who's currently on it.

...Winovich, though I like him, probably won’t survive camp. Starting off on PUP puts him at a HUGE disadvantage, and now the team has Judon, Van Noy, Uche, Jennings & Perkins. As well as Wise, who basically does the same thing as Winovich. I think he’s going to be on another team week 1.

...the influx of LBs could make Wino expendable/an after thought. I’m not saying I’m advocating - just “it could happen” and they could be fine.

Winovich has Jets written all over him.

...Winovich is an interesting one to watch this year. Reading between the lines makes one think that the coaching staff isn't high on him with all the edge guys they brought in this year. There was also the report last year he was viewed as a bit of a "locker room lawyer" so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is cut or traded at some point in camp. Pretty disappointing considering how much potential he has shown at times.

We still need all the pass-rush help we can get...Right now Wino is my #3 DE behind Judon & Wise and ahead of Perkins...Hightower, KVN, Uche & Jennings are my OLBs...Same as Michel, I wouldn't deal him before TC for anything less than a top-100 pick...Let's see how everyone else looks first, before jumping off this bridge...

Wise is a sub not a #2 DE. He will play inside on passing downs abs once in a while, vs running teams that don’t spread the field at all, as a DE on early downs.
DE/OLB is a cloudy distinction.
In base we will play 2 300+ DTs and 4 other guys that could be called ILB/OLB/DE.
2 will be on the edge
They will include Judon, vannoy, winovich, uche, Jennings, Perkins, sometimes Hightower and on rare occasions as mentioned above wise or one of the 300lbers.
The other 2 would include Hightower, vannoy, Uche, McMillan, bentley, hall, possibly Jennings.

We can literally pick any 4 from that group of players to be on the field, and we often do mix and match to use their versatility.

if you are asking “starters” I’d say it is HT, Judon, KVN and the competition for who is the 4th is wide open among McMillan, wino, uche, Jennings, Perkins and Bentley. Ultimately a number of them will probably share the playing time.

You don’t get the impression Uche will be rush first ? I figured KVN & HT hold down the middle of the field.

Agreed. Wondering What ST units was he on last year? If he brings his speed to table there 3d string this year under Hightower tuteledge could mature him up.

If Stiddy doesn't get off the PUP by pre-season week 1....he's toast, IMO.
He might be toast anyway. I pulled hard for him last year, but how in the world can he show up injured after not doing anything? Last year was his shot, and he got dinged and let Cam take over. The more I think about it, I'd rather have Hoyer be the vet guiding Mac. Hoyer has been here in the meat of the Patriot way. Cam is a very different type.

I think we should roll with 2 QB's. We have a lot of depth elsewhere and I'd hate to lose some players...just stick a QB on the practice squad....Doledaga?

Think Bill wants a do-over on that one, picking Stidham over Brady?

the idea of Winovich is alluring, but he's like a shell of Bruschi - his "motor" and enthusiasm are endearing, but he has nothing between the ears for football IQ. A one-move guy, who thinks sprinting 10 yards behind the QB is a great play.

We're talking about Winovich, not Cassius Marsh.. And your claim about his "Football IQ" is just ridiculous..

He was released and not re-signed. Missing TC this year when it's a crucial year of development means he's not in the Patriots plans.
Oh, it's Dolegala.

Uche won't, or shouldn't, be on the field during early downs/running situations, just during passing downs as part of the nascar package...
HT could indeed see time at ILB; not so much KVN maybe...Really pulling for McMillan to secure a spot here.

Dolegala's with Green Bay as of now...But he could certainly be set free at the end of camp and re-sign with our PS...

The Vikings O Coordinator just got canned for refusing the vaccine… something to consider I guess.

There have been reports he isnt recovered yet, so I expected this.
It’s probably a way to be able to hold out without being fined

I don’t understand. Why would the team place him on PUP if he is healthy? He is attending meetings and working on the side rehabbing in practice, not holding out. He doesn’t choose to be designated PUP the team does. It’s in his best interest to prove he is healthy because he has no leverage at all if he can’t make it on the field.

You don’t see it as partially a BB „good will“ gesture?

this gives Gilly the opportunity to show up and earn his money and still not be actually working so he can save face. Then when the two parties get down to actual contract $ nuts and bolts it is all collegial.
