Alcohol testing several times a month? That's obscene.
Damn. There goes my dream of playing in the NFL.

There would be no reason to offer a conditional 3rd if they are being offered a 2nd.
As you say it takes two to make a deal. Giving up a 2nd round pick for a player who is a Bud Light away from a lifetime ban is a very, very risky move.
I don't think they are under any obligation to reinstate him, but as far as we know he has stayed clean and sober and out of trouble for the past year, so I think reinstatement is a very high probability.
I disagree I think it's easier to fail than many believe - it depends on if you ate and when and how much, etc. I'm sure we've all had nights where we were drinking until midnight and would pass this test, and nights where we were drinking until midnight and would fail it. It can be pretty volatile. And that's assuming you knew when the test was. There is, however, one way to make sure you pass this test when you have already lost your job for the equivalent of 1.5 years due to alcohol and drug related problems. It has been reported to be as high as 6-8x per month since he's in one of the higher stages.
As mentioned before, it's not easy to fail a test for booze, since your body gets rid of an ounce per hour. You can realistically drink until midnight, then pass a test by 9-10am the next day.
Who knows what's up with Gordon, though? It could be anything.
It appears that the answer to that is somewhat discretionary. Being in 'Stage 3' of the substance abuse program is a career-long designation subjecting one to unannounced random testing at any point, including for alcohol, though there are 'outs' for the alcohol portion of this policy after 12 or 24 month intervals if the player is deemed to be within compliance of their treatment plan (including, but not limited to, not failing any tests). So in Gordon's case it is likely that he would definitely be subject to the alcohol ban for at least the first 24 months after reinstatement, and possibly after that as well.Does the no alcohol ban follow him for his whole nfl career or will it get clear and starts over as long as he stays clean for a couple years?

He was already spotted out with Johnny Manziel at UFC 196, which made some question what exactly he was doing. The answer was that he was out with a friend, albeit a friend who has a great deal of his own problems, and the night was likely harmless, at least on Gordon’s end.
Never gonna happen
