Rowe out again would nearly guarantee we give up a 4th round pick to Philly instead of a 3rd.

Hey man no problem. Just trying to get the word out to the level headed people on here that when Brady takes a sack or hit Sunday and the trolls and doom & gloomers start cursing the OL for being so bad, the level headed people can respond about how the OL hasn't been playing any different from last year.

They should try to get a place near Sante Fe, NM. It's closer to the Mex. City altitude.

I don't think Garcia was ever a factor for this season, though I wouldn't have minded him getting technique work this year. But the bottom line is Garcia was ALWAYS a 2-3 year project when he was drafted. We won't see him this year.

There are no 2-3 year projects except for for maybe position changers like Edelman.

Moving on from that, Kyed replied to my follow on and said that Garcia is in the locker room every day so that's encouraging.

Your post could be the most important in this thread. For over a week now the "Brady is getting killed out there" diatribe has been persistent not only locally, but nationally as well.

If your figures are correct, and I have no reason to doubt them, then the increased sacks and QB hits are pretty much the same as last season when there were absolutely NO complaints about the pass protection.

BTW- This just occurred to me, but Brady's stats last year must also be looked at with the understanding that the OL had been working together for a month getting the kinks out when he came back in week 5. So some of the bad stats came at a time in that first month when they WERE getting their first prolonged live action.

But bottom line, it would appear that the entire "Brady is getting killed" meme is a much ado about nothing scenario that was a convenient narrative built to last a week and pull out again whenever they have nothing else to talk about.

Yea hopefully no one freaks out if its a close game (ex. Bu bu we barley beat the Jets), most games against the Jets come to the wire

Ha. Tell that to Brady's injured shoulder which needed an MRI on Tuesday, 5 days after the game had occurred and could potentially bother him for the remainder of the season.

Whether it's "only" due to the fact that he's being forced to hold the ball too long because of the injury to Edelman, the fact that the OL isn't playing quite as well as last year, or a combination of both, our team's number one priority lies in keeping its most important player upright and unharmed. It's really as simple as that.

It's great to see the informative post by JMC00 which points out the percentages of drop backs and hits compared to last year, because it shows us that it's not ALL on the offensive line, but the fact remains that Brady is on pace for 51 sacks, has taken way too many hits/sacks, and is on the wrong side of time for this to be occurring. It needs to change immediately. Hopefully, we see a combo of quicker release and improved play on the OL. The lack of running game isn't helping things.

Brady is done if he lands on that shoulder. Not sure how it's even possible to play with an AC joint sprain.

He basically played with the same injury to his throwing shoulder in Dec. 2002 and finished out the year. It happened in week 15 @Tennessee, and the offense lost 2/3 to end the year, only scoring 7 and 17 in the losses.

Of course, he needed offseason surgery. We're all very thankful that it's his left shoulder this time.

I don't disagree with your main point that the most important priority is keeping Brady upright and relatively untouched. But hasn't that been the major priority for over a decade? Clearly, you have a keen sense of the obvious. sup. ;)

My point was that, while of course, we all want to see Brady hit fewer times, the tumult we experienced this last week or so in the media, was vastly overblown and when you look at it, a bit unnecessary. I just watched the Eagles and Panthers defenses pummel their respective QB's all night long. It was worse than anything Brady's seen so far, yet except for a casual mention about the good pressure both teams got, it wasn't a focal point of post game discussion, and I doubt very much any talk about the OL deficiencies of either team will be a national topic of discussion.

As for Brady's injury, he's an NFL QB, and he's going to get hit. That's a fact of life even with the best OL's. And if you get hit, there is a possibility of injury. That's a fact of life too. So blaming Brady's injury on the OL is a bit unfair.

I think the attention is going to be on Brady and the OL due to the following reasons:

    --They're the defending SB champs.

--He's 40 years old, and just came out with a book on how to defy Father Time and take care of your body. He's got a bit of a target on his back since his success is practically unprecedented.

--In the last two SB winning seasons, he was sacked a total of 21 (2014) and 15 (2016) times. When the team gets off to a slow start and he's already been sacked 16 times in basically the first month, it's going to be a story whether we like it or not. You can bet it would be a story if it were someone like Rodgers, too. It's just the way it is. He's currently on pace to be sacked the most times in his entire 18 year career at the age of 40, and people are surprised that the media is pounding the story? Really?

--He's currently injured with the same injury that forced him to get offseason surgery back in '02, although we lucked out this time and it's not the same shoulder. The fact that he's injured is going to draw media attention. He will almost certainly be bothered by this injury for the next couple/few months.

--Edelman's injury is helping to force him to hold onto the ball for a longer period of time. Cue the posters who tried to convince us that we were suddenly changing to a vertical downfield attack, while they made fun of those who pointed out how the offense would certainly go through Amendola--which I stated for these exact reasons.

--The OL isn't playing as well as in past years. It's just a fact. Our franchise LT has played sub-par, to say the least. While it's most certainly not all on them, they've been very vocal about not playing up to the normal standard. They aren't opening many holes in the running game, either. It's a fair criticism. Like I mentioned in my other post, it shouldn't just fall on the OL, but they most certainly share some of the responsibility and if it continues, we can expect even more attention and possibly more serious consequences.

I am with Chatham and Ken on this one. The drama about the projected number of sacks and whatnot is totally overblown. If the team would be overly concerned with it they would consistently leave more than the 5 lineman in to block. Chatham made this a big point in the most recent podcast.

Also the sack totals are meaningless without context. Him tripping on the GL against the Texans ended up being a sack. The strip where he essentially wasnt hit at all at the end against the Texans also counted as a sack. On the other hand you have many hits that are substantially more brutal and impactful. Those stats need more context.

Is it a great situation ? Nope. But I dont see a reason to hit the alarm button if the coaching staff hasnt hit it either yet. Once we get to a point where we consistently have 6 people protecting Brady and he still gets hit at the same rate I will get concerned.
