All 22 Report VS Bucs
Since a Thursday game I was able to expand past rookies, too bad it was against the Jets as easier to look good vs the Jets.

Will Campbell-Face a good pass rusher in McDonald and was pretty dominate in pass pro. A little more mixed bag on run plays which has been a strength. Stuffed a couple spin moves from McDonald. I think it’s safe to say his short arms is something he’s overcome and he’s an outlier. He missed a LB block on an early run play that resulted in 2-yard loss. Also missed a block on the 7 yd TD run but Tre scored with help from the push. Got beat by McDonald around the end on a running play resulted in 1 yard gain. McDonald beat him to the inside on another running play but not a big factor in the tackle. Had a nice pass rush rep where he was initially pushed back toward Drake but recovered and buried his guy. The Jets got a free blitzer sack negated by an illegal hands penalty but think Drake missed the protection on that 1 but hard to tell. Jets rushed 6 and Campbell doubled on the same guy Wilson was blocking so could be on him for that miss on the blitzing LB. Struggled a bit with McDonald’s speed on run plays but not on pass plays. Overall, a weaker game for him run blocking but a superior pass blocking game.

Jared Wilson-Bounce back game for Wilson. He wasn’t bad last week but one of his weaker games and had some struggles. The only negative play I saw this week was on a 9 yard Tre run on first TD drive at the 19 he was beat pretty quickly but ball was going to the right so his player couldn’t get in the play so no harm. Otherwise, he was great in pass pro and good on running plays. Jets quality of player he had to face was not the highest, but you want him to win against lesser players and he did. High level performance, good to see a better game from him, hope he can continue when facing better players.

Tre Henderson-Pretty solid game despite the stats not looking great. He had quite a few yard after contact. The first TD run he made 2 guys missed and then bullied his way to end zone with help. Bradbury and Campbell missed blocks but didn’t matter. The 2nd TD run was good patients and good cuts. I thought he was fine picking up the blitz but 1 play he was pretty cleanly beat but Drake had already gotten rid of the ball incomplete to Williams down sideline. Outside of that I think he maximized yards, was a good outlet as a receiver, and overall might be his best game if you take away the 2 big plays last week it was his best game. Improving each week.

Kyle Williams- He doesn’t lack ability to get open. He’s been open on several plays but again not primary read or his routes are longer and Drake doesn’t have time to wait. He does have a disconnect with Maye on option routes. The one down the right sideline where he stopped and Maye went long looked like it was on Williams. The deep safety went middle, Willimas had half a step, not sure why he stopped. Throw was great, landed on the sideline, which would have been outside shoulder. Still shows a good release, a little better route running this week I thought. Polk looked like he was never open, he’s not a bust like Polk. I still believe, based on tape, he can be a good WR. The talent is there. So many of his plays are just to run deep and he’s just not a factor.

Efton Chism-Got 1 offensive snap. Waiting to see him, probably next year, get some run in the slot and see if the practice translates. He’s getting valuable experience but a redshirt year as a WR. KO returns looked like he got what was there.

Craig Woodson- Outside of back-to-back plays he had a strong game. The play right before he let up the TD he got caught lining up late and the TE got a free release wide open over the middle but Justin Fields went elsewhere. He tripped and fell on the TD, hard to blame for that, it happens. He was employed more often near the line of scrimmage. With no semblance of passing game they did not need 2 deep safety like other games. I thought he tackled well and outside the 2 mentioned plays had good coverage. Keeps putting together better games each week.

Joshua Farmer-Not active injury this week

Cory Durden-Got more reps this week and continues to impress. Guy must be all kinds of strong because he’s constantly got Lineman back on their heels. He did have 2 plays he didn’t get low enough and was handled a bit but that’s a rare occurrence. Had a couple pressures, in on some running plays including one in the backfield. Has a real knack for getting off blocks. His run defense is better than the pass rush but as he learns some pass rush technique I think he’ll be pretty good as his power by itself gets him near the QB often and has some quick feet. He is slow speed wise so moving laterally or getting to the QB with speed is his one weak area of his game. Still flashes as a very good player overall.

Elijah Ponder-16 defensive snaps. His best game to date. Got in on more plays than any other week. Kept Fields from breaking outside him on hist first rep and did it again 2 more times. 2nd rep went down the line to get an assist on a running play tackle. Dropped into zone coverage a couple times and did not look out of place. Kept hustling after initially stopped on pass rush to get his sack. Nice game by Ponder.

Andy Borregales/Julian Ashby- Finally missed a field goal. IMO the ball wasn’t coming off as clean as previous weeks, thought maybe the cold ball was an issue but drilled the last one so maybe not. Something to watch going forward with cold weather games. Ashby continues to just execute.

Eric Gregory-UDFA rookie got 15 defensive snaps. He’s 6 foot 3 and 319 pounds known for his strength to hold up at the line but lacks athleticism. Likely got more play with Williams out. Played inside.
He moves like a slow fat guy. Was in on a red zone run stop, also split a double team to be in on a run tackle later on. Pass rush was poor, stuffed on every rush. Looks like a solid interior run defender that lacks athleticism to be much more than that.

Carlton Davis-Watched him for the first time as have read some criticism of him online. He also has YTD his worst PFF rating of his career though Jets game was rated his second best. He got beat on a slant in the red zone but outside that play he played well. When in man had good coverage and was well positioned in zone defenses. Didn’t see anything that scared me for sure.

Dell Pettus-Only 9 snaps on defense but made the last breakup, almost got picked by the wr cutting across, got around that and closed fast. I loved Pettus last year and hoped he would get more play this year. He looks the part of a good player when he gets out there.

Harold Landry-Checking in on him as have not heard his name much. I also feel like if Pats lose in the playoffs it will be from lack of pressure on QB, especially from the edges. Might not be best game to judge Landry as it seems he was more charged with not allowing Fields out of the pocket than going for sacks. Of course, on Fields TD run he was unblocked and Fields still outran him and got around him to the end zone. Fields can’t beat you with his arm so it made sense to just keep him in the pocket to miss throws. Got a hit on Fields with a nice spin move. Almost got around the edge on another. Was involved in 1 sack with a good rush. Thought he did a good job setting edge on run plays. He does seem more speed and quickness than power and when Lineman can engage and get hands on him he struggles to do anything but stand his ground. Overall, he was OK. Not the disaster I was expecting but someone teams can shut down on a pass rush with a strong Tackle.

K. Chaisson-I thought he mis-played an early QB option and did not turn it inside and let RB around the edge. Also lost contain on Fields on a pass rush where he jumped inside for no good reason. He covered Fields well on the trick play, if he didn’t it’s a TD. Stayed home on a PA bootleg that caused intentional grounding. Got pressure on 1 pass rush with what looked like a little Euro step move. Otherwise he was handled on most of the pass rushes. Mainly by Fashanu. Biggest off season need will be 1 edge rusher that can consistently add some pressure. Chaisson and Landry just are not the level you want in such an important position. Makes Milton Williams health crucial for this defense. FYI, Williams went back in for 2 snaps and looked fine. Even jumped to try to bat the ball down.

Barmore-He was responsible for the ankle injury to Williams but obviously unintentional. He slipped on one play and went down on a which allowed Fields to escape to his side for a good run. Though I’d like to see him dominate a bit more I can’t say he did not play well overall and as the game went on showed some pretty dominate play, a bit of a slow start though. He was in the backfield right away on a run option but let Field escape around him by going after RB instead. Had a good stunt leading to a hit on Fields. He has a unique ability to get off blocks and make plays. Just missed another sack on a loop around. Forced Fields out of pocket leading to incompletion. Good quickness on his sack. Followed it up with a pressure. Next play he had Fields and never wrapped him up. 3 plays in a row where he was at the QB. He actually had a realistic chance at 5 sacks in this game.

K. Tonga-How can you not love this guy. Important guy in the middle of that defense. Been blowing up guys at fullback but on first chance he did not recognize the right guy right away and missed the block on the guy that made the tackle at the 10. He was visibly frustrated as he should have been because would have popped Tre free and then 1 Safety to beat to the end zone. Defensively just so stout. Seems to always get up field or hold his ground. Had multiple double teams where he held his ground though had one he got blown off the ball on but for the most part he can occupy 2 lineman on some plays.

Spillane, Gibbens and Tavai-Took quick look at some of the LB’s. Spillane is on the list of guys you can’t afford to lose, just a good ball player. Smart player, makes good tackles, gets to the ball carrier, wasn’t an issue in coverage. Tavai had a pretty good game as well. Gibbens was the weaker of the 3. Dropped too far in some zones, a little slow to react to some runs. Not a great game by Gibbens.

Onwenu and Moses-If Onwenu could play the Jets every week he’d be an All-Pro. You’d also be happy to pay him his salary for next year. Looked quick and strong, maybe finally in playing shape though honestly have not looked at him much on tape this year. Moses was solid and overall played well, not as dominate or clean as Onwenu but still had a good game. Jets aren’t very good and the Pats O-line took advantage especially in pass pro.

Drake Maye-His game is covered by many on the internet in detail. Not a ton to add. Jets are not the best defense and get little pressure versus most teams. Maye seemed to have no issues in the cold throwing the ball. If he stops throwing to Kyle Williams he may never have an incomplete pass again! Drake excelled at keeping his head up while on the move, either in the pocket or scrambling. After all the "he takes too many sacks" week he has 1 sack each of the last 2 weeks. His pocket movement is becoming elite of elite.

In 11 starts this season Drake Maye has:

2500+ passing yards

250+ rushing yards

20+ TD passes

70.0+ comp pct

.800+ win pct

No other QB in NFL history has put up those numbers over any span of 11 starts in a single regular season! MVP

Excellent post as always. Ponder is a huge development if his role continues to expand. Makes you feel a little better about being selllers not buyers at the deadline, the players have been improving everywhere thanks to a great staff. This team has no ceiling even for this year.
