Not because of the name value but because hes a taller target and I have all the faith in the world that Mac Jones can find him down field. He doesn't have to be NYG OBJ he just has to be a target that uses his size and plays with a chip on his shoulder to cash in next year.

As a OBJ fantasy owner I’ll punch a wall if he goes to Baltimore I also don’t understand those odds are the raiders first since they’re at the top
I don't want him in Baltimore at all. Hollywood is having a borderline elite fantasy season. He'd take some of his shine.

Schefter says they’re paying him a signing bonus to lower the salary that a team claiming him on waivers would be responsible for. Now we get to see what that salary ends up being. They want his new team to take as much as possible, but not have it be enough that nobody claims him.

This should be good for people that want him on the Patriots, since it means he can’t just go sign with one of the best teams. For a low enough salary, some of the 3-win teams make sense, though.

Oh, and happy birthday Odell!

Heres the rub... Borne out by hindsight...

Browns held him out or excused him from practice ... That's not against the CBA, no matter what Florio says... The team did not suspend him, they were working on a contract revision to make it more palatable for teams to claim him...

The team does have to allow him access to the facilities etc, but it does not require them to have him on the active roster... As long as they allow him access and pay him, there is nothing obj can do... Simply put they do not have to play him if they don't want to.

Even if the browns held him out, as you said, they can suspend him for conduct for up to a month... And it's been, what, less than a week? The browns are well within their CBA negotiated rights...

What I don't get is why all these guys are referring to a 2006 CBA... The most recent and the CBA the union agreed to was 2020... That agreement is the overriding authority... Haven't read it in it's entirety, and maybe it references, or the clauses originated in 2006, but it is the 2020 CBA that needs to be cited, not 2006.

As for obj ... He's being released with a reworked contract today... I'm sure with offsets... Due diligence says we should at the very least, bring him in for a road test

The 2006 CBA is when the provision was added. It is still in the current CBA. And Over The Cap had an article basically saying the same thing as Florio.

And as you said no they have no obligation to activate any player on game day, but technically they cannot bar any player from the practice facilities unless they are suspended. But even if they weren’t negotiating with OBJ is he going file a grievance for being barred for a practice or two?

And yes, he will be released. That is why he isn’t making a stink about being barred from practice.

He's 5'11". Still probably plays bigger than some of the guys we have now.

That’s the rub. How much are they reducing his salary? He has over $8 million left on his base salary this year. How much are they willing to reduce that by converting some of his salary to off sets. They are going to want the maximum amount they can get to stay in salary and still have him picked up off of waivers. I assume they sent out feelers to other teams that might pick him up to see what is the most OBJ’s salary can be and still get someone to pick him up off waivers.

The Browns are trying to re work his contract before they cut him. What they are trying to do is make his contract more palatable for a potential team to claim him (and get the Browns off the hook for the millions still owed to Beckham). Of course, Beckham's team would want him to go unclaimed, then he can still collect the balance of the guaranteed money the Browns owe him, collect the termination pay. and then choose which teams he goes to and not have that salary "off-set" the Browns guarantees.

So they are working on the contract with both side having opposite goals.

Browns plan to release Odell Beckham Jr. on Friday - ProFootballTalk (nbcsports.com)

PFT points out, because he was on the roster on Tuesday, he is getting paid by the Browns for this week, and that they will most likely cut him today. The thing to look out for, is what changes are made to the contract before then.

So then it doesn't matter. It's a moot point as the player and team are 8n agreement.

Contract revision is already agreed upon.

So basically Florio was blowing smoke about nothing again. The actions of the team were within bounds of the CBA. Minus the application of a suspension, the browns were well within their rights to act in the manner they did.

Never said otherwise. I was talking about how if the team told OBJ that his services were no longer necessary this season and told him to go home for the rest of the season. That was what a lot of people thought would happen including the person I was responding to in that post you responded to. That is against the CBA.

I always said that that this was a mutual thing for them to figure out how to deal with releasing him. If they were forcing him to sit out of practice against his will, he would have been screaming bloody murder.

OBJ has been irrelevant in fantasy football for 2-3 years

No. We’ve had WRs who’ve been talented but so unpredictable that they cause more problems….
And we have had supposedly douchy, prima-donna WRs that have worked out very (i.e. Randy Moss). It would be a huge upgrade; the Patriots desperately need a WR that can consistently get open or draw double coverage. Mac is gonna get killed waiting for the current set of WRs to get open. Please do this, Bill. However I doubt that the Patriots have a shot or the money

I have concerns with as highly as he feels about Cam, he won't like the way it went down with him and Gilmore and therefore will stay away from here.
Hope I'm wrong.
I hope you're right.

5'11 and 198 is a bigger target??

Since the waiver process only happens on Monday, it looks like a three day weekend media feeding frenzy.
