Patriots Claim Former Giants QB DeVito Off Waivers

After clearing a roster spot by releasing Kendrick Bourne, it looks like the Patriots are adding some depth to their quarterback room.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Patriots have claimed former Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito off of waivers.
DeVito was far and away the best quarterback the Patriots faced all preseason in terms of his numbers, with the former Giants starter completing 17-of-20 (85%) for 198 yards and three touchdowns. He was also 4-of-4 for 51 yards, along with a touchdown on third down on Thursday night.
As a former starter in New York, DeVito has put up some pretty good totals. Overall, he’s 145-0f-222 (65.3%) for 1,358 yards along with 8 touchdowns and three interceptions in 12 games over the last two seasons.
He takes the place of Ben Wooldridge, who was let go last Saturday after starting and playing the entire finale. Wooldridge threw a pick six in the third quarter in that game that proved to be his final pass as a Patriot, with the club then running the ball 15 straight times to close out the game.
For now, DeVito adds some additional competition behind Drake Maye with Josh Dobbs, who had an inconsistent preseason. Dobbs finished 16-of-28 (57.1%) for 151 yards along with one touchdown in his two appearances.
