DRAFT NFL Draft Rumors

Breer indicates bb agrees with what I’ve been saying.

Sure seems like the Patriots - Justin Fields rumors are heating up. Would be quite something to see Belichick trade up for him.
...or not. Reporters can pretend to know BB, but I think it COULD be true, or not.

I think it’s a smoke screen I think they want Lance.

15,46, next year first and take Gilmore is a fair trade between the Patriots and falcons. No need to add a second or third round pick. That’s three first round picks and a defensive star.

I don’t think so. Lance is too much of a risk. Will take about three years for him to develop and he went to a small town school. Fields is the guy the Patriots want.

How is ATL cap situation? would they want to take on more salary with gilmore?

Have no picks until 96. Pass. They need number 46 for CB (providing Gilmore is traded why would Atlanta want Gilmore? They don’t have any cap space), or a legit #1 WR

Just don’t see it happening. The price is to high to move up.

They don’t have any!! Which is where the Jones trade rumors are coming from.

Don't have cap for draft picks either.

Of course they are calling everyone. He wants to know every option and be surprised by nothing on all three draft days.
Exactly, I imagine a dozen different "placeholder" deals / conversations, where BB and the GM of (say) the Panthers have talked, with the conversation being like

"In round 2, we have pick #46 and you have pick #39. If you decide on draft day to trade down and we decide to trade up, let's work out possible compensation. That's not to say we (or you) will commit to doing it, because it will depend on both of our draft boards at the time, but let's have a starting point so we could possibly work a deal in 5 minutes on the clock. Then let's discuss the same thing for if you want to move up from #113 and us move down from #96 in rounds 3/4. (and so on...)"

That's really the only way to be nimble enough to move up and down the board like Bill does. I imagine 20+ different contingency deals, most of which never take place, established at least in principle before the draft ever starts.

I would not be shocked if the Pats took Surtain at 15 and traded Gilmore on draft day.
Personally, I prefer Horn....

And LOL if we take Samuel Jr. in round 2 or something....

Unless the Jets shock everyone and take Fields or Lance, it seems like Wilson has always been their preference. If it goes Lawrence, Wilson, Jones, one of either Fields or Lance should be there for the Pats if they want to trade up to get one. MAYBE the Jets are just trying to trick the Pats into trading up for Fields, and take Fields anyway. But I’d be very surprised if they don’t take Wilson
If we do trade up it will be while our trading partner is On the Clock. No way we trade ahead of time and give up draft capitol to not get the guy we targeted

When have we ever heard accurate pre draft hype reports of what the patriots will do? Gillette is locked up TIGHT and nothing gets out.
I believe a lot of the "Pats want Fields" hype is coming from his agent.
Yeah true, but maybe not so much down on tobacco road?

That was probably taken into consideration. It might be a test for the new regime on can they shut up or maybe a favor to drive buzz for pick 4/

He was referring to the rumor about us having talks with Carolina about pick 8. But the overall sediment remains the same. Carolina could be putting it out there to drive up the price from Washington or Chicago.

I still have a feeling that it's just negotiation via the media regarding Garoppolo. SF is still holding out for a high pick and Bill, at this point, is basically saying "listen, if you aren't gonna budge, I'm just gonna trade up and take a better QB than him and you won't get jack ****."

I think the interest in Fields is real, but the fact that everyone suddenly knows it tells me it's also a message. It could also potentially be a smokescreen for Lance, hyping Fields to get someone else to take him and letting Lance slide.

Tbh - maybe they are targeting Lance. The fact that all of these leaks suddenly came out the last few days saying SF suddenly is "50/50 between Jones and Lance" could mean that SF knows Bill likes Lance and is essentially threatening to take him so he better trade for Jimmy!!!!

This conversation with Lance on Rich Eisen's podcast was a classic:

RE: How was your Zoom with Bill Belichick, how did that one go?

TL: I actually did not say that I had a Zoom with Coach Belichick.

RE: Yes! You are a veteran, Trey! Well done, very well done. You read the blitz, you saw me coming off the edge and you looked me off.

TL: I didn’t take the bait.

RE: But it was good, right? Belichick, it was good?

TL: I definitely did not ever say that. So, I don’t know.

Apparently the Lions wanted to trade up to 4 to get Ja’Marr Chase, but the Falcons’ asking price was too steep:
